El bronce olímpico Vladimir Nikitin logró una victoria por decisión unánime en un combate del peso pluma que fue el estelar de una velada de GazFight. No obstante, su oponente, el tanzano Ally Mwerangi, le ofreció una pelea durísima y repleta de intercambios.

En el choque coestelar de la noche, el número 1 WBC del peso puente Evgeny Romanov venció en el séptimo asalto un duelo ante el veterano Vikapita Meroro, pelea precedida por la coronación como campeón de Rusia del peso ligero de Aleksei Mazur sobre Tikhon Netesov.

La cartelera principal de dicho evento estuvo precedida por los triunfos por decisión de los peso superligero Daud Alaev y Andrey Maik sobre, respectivamente, Ramazon Alimatov y Khasanboy Mirzahamrayev, y por la victoria por KOT de Andranik Grigorian ante Evgeny Smelov.

Por otro lado, el supergallo puertorriqueño Juan Carlos “El Indio” Camacho 14(7KO)-1 se anotó posiblemente la mayor victoria de su carrera hasta la fecha ante el estadounidense Fernando “Leoncito” Díaz 11(3KO)-2-1, a quien superó por decisión unánime de los jueces (doble 99-91 y un 97-93). En cualquier caso, este fue el primer combate de Camacho que alcanza el décimo asalto, por lo que todavía le queda bastante camino por delante en cuanto a adquisición de experiencia y desarrollo antes de poder encarar peleas decisivas en la parte alta de la división.
El viernes se produjeron también estos otros resultados:
-El peso ligero Jorge Cota 8(5KO)-0 superó satisfactoriamente su prueba ante Jesús Antonio “Chino” Rubio 13(7KO)-6(3)-2 a través de un triunfo por decisión unánime, emplazándose a nuevos pasos adelante en su todavía corta carrera. En el mismo cartel, el peso supermedio Manuel Gallegos 20(17KO)-1 sólo necesitó dos rounds (cuatro menos que Diego Pacheco) para batir a Jesús “Mazo” Moroyoqui 7(4KO)-2(2)-1.
-El invicto peso supermosca tailandés Nattapong Jankaew 10(6KO)-1(1) sufrió la primera derrota de su carrera profesional con un KOT en el noveno round ante el peligroso filipino Adrian Lerasan 12(5KO)-4(1), que le sorprendió como visitante y capturó un título menor WBA que le llevará al top 15.
-El peso wélter bielorruso-estadounidense Vlad Panin 15(8KO)-1 continuó extendiendo su racha con un KOT en el quinto asalto sobre Reggie Harris Jr. 7(3KO)-2(1), necesitando ya un primer test a diez rounds.
-El exaspirante mundial Marcelo “El Terrible” Cóceres 31(17KO)-4(1)-1 se alejó de sus dos polémicas derrotas consecutivas venciendo por KOT en el cuarto round al veterano exretador mundial Javier “La Bestia” Maciel 34(23KO)-17(4).
-El peso mosca Adrián “Gato” Curiel 20(3KO)-4 venció por decisión unánime (77-75 doble y un 78-74) a Mario “Mayonesas” Andrade 16(5KO)-16(3)-7, pero son muchos los triunfos demasiado ajustados de este púgil y parece muy posible que más pronto que tarde termine de nuevo derrotado en una decisión de los jueces.
Sábado 20 de agosto
El monarca mundial WBA, WBO e IBF del peso pesado Oleksandr Usyk neutralizó con su habilidad e inteligencia el pretendido empuje del excampeón Anthony Joshua y volvió a imponerse por decisión en la revancha. Así, Usyk aumentó todavía más su legado y se emplazó a un duelo contra Tyson Fury si éste decide desdecirse de su “retiro”.

En el choque co-estelar, Filip Hrgović sufrió mucho ante la pegada de Zhilei Zhang, pero logró resistir y venció la eliminatoria IBF del peso pesado, convirtiéndose en aspirante obligatorio de Usyk. Por su parte, Callum Smith logró un arrollador triunfo por knockout en el cuarto round sobre Mathieu Bauderlique en una eliminatoria WBC del peso semipesado y retará a Artur Beterbiev.

Los otros tres combates que compusieron la cartelera estelar fueron bochornosos: el peso crucero Badou Jack logró una polémica victoria sobre un Richard Rivera que fue superior a él y Ziyad Almaayouf y Ramla Ali lograron triunfos en el primer round en combates pésimamente emparejados y que no deberían haber sido parte de este importante evento.

En cuanto al respaldo no televisado por DAZN, en él sumaron triunfos boxeadores como el peso pesado, exaspirante mundial crucero, Andrew Tabiti, el prospecto ucraniano semipesado Daniel Lapin y el plata olímpico, también peso semipesado, Ben Whittaker. Por lo que se refiere a la velada de Premier Boxing Champions. El excampeón mundial Omar Figueroa le puso voluntad, pero su momento ha pasado ya y, habiendo perdido muchísimo rendimiento, fue enviado al retiro por el también extitular mundial Sergey Lipinets, que le derrotó por abandono en el octavo asalto.

En cuanto al semifondo, en este se coronó injustamente a Alberto Puello como campeón mundial WBA del peso superligero. Las cartulinas a su favor fueron espantosas, ya que realmente Batyr Akhmedov hizo más que suficiente para haber salido del ring con la victoria y el cinturón.

No hubo polémica en el mundial WBA del peso superpluma entre Roger Gutiérrez y Héctor Luis García, pugna en la que el segundo fue muy superior y le arrebató el título a su oponente. La emisión del evento se inició con un nuevo triunfo por decisión unánime para el peso superligero Brandun Lee que, no obstante, fue derribado duramente por Will Madera en una ocasión.

Pasando a la cartelera de Top Rank, el titular mundial WBO del peso pluma Emanuel Navarrete retuvo su cinturón con un KO en el sexto asalto sobre Eduardo Báez. En el respaldo, Giovani Santillán venció por decisión unánime a Julio Luna, Lindolfo Delgado logró una decisiva victoria unánime ante el invicto Omar Aguilar y Xavier Martínez regresó a la senda de la victoria derrotando en cinco asaltos a Alejandro Guerrero. Dejando de lado estos tres grandes eventos de la jornada, en este día la campeona mundial IBF del peso supermosca Micaela “La Princesita” Luján 11(3KO)-1-1 defendió por segunda vez su corona derrotando a la mexicana Irma “Torbellino” García 21(4KO)-5-1 por decisión mayoritaria (98-92, 97-93 y 95-95). De todos modos, en el ranking IBF hay rivales potenciales de mucha dificultad y quién sabe si podría llegar a materializarse una unificación contra su compatriota Clara Lescurat (WBA), por lo que aunque el triunfo sobre García resultará motivador posiblemente las pruebas más duras para Luján están por llegar.
En el otro choque femenino destacado, la extitular mundial Susie Ramadan 29(12KO)-3 puso fin a su larga inactividad venciendo a la excampeona Tomoko Okuda 7(1KO)-4(1)-2, y no cabe duda de que en adelante trabajará para intentar acercarse a una nueva pelea titular, que sería la sexta de su carrera.
Cerrando este artículo se puede mencionar que el evento de Thompson Boxing terminó con una victoria por knockout en el séptimo asalto del peso ligero estadounidense Rubén “Ace” Torres 19(16KO)-0 sobre el venezolano Cristian “Guarico” Báez 18(17KO)-2(1). Olympic bronze medalist Vladimir Nikitin achieved a unanimous decision victory in a featherweight bout that was the main one in a GazFight evening. However, his opponent, the Tanzanian Ally Mwerangi, offered him a very tough fight full of exchanges. Read more following the link.
In the co-main event of the night, the WBC number 1 bridgerweight Evgeny Romanov won a duel against veteran Vikapita Meroro in the seventh round, fight preceded by the proclamation as Russian lightweight champion of Aleksei Mazur against Tikhon Netesov. Read more following the link.
The main card of this event was preceded by the decision wins of super lightweights Daud Alaev and Andrey Maik over, respectively, Ramazon Alimatov and Khasanboy Mirzahamrayev, and by Andranik Grigorian‘s TKO victory over Evgeny Smelov. Read more following the link.
Regarding the Puerto Rican super bantamweight Juan Carlos “El Indio” Camacho 14(7KO)-1, he obtained possibly the biggest victory of his career to date against the American Fernando “Leoncito” Díaz 11(3KO)-2-1, whom he beat by unanimous decision of the judges (double 99-91 and one 97-93). In any case, this was Camacho’s first fight that reached the 10th round, so he still has a long way to go in terms of experience and development before he can face decisive bouts at the top of the division.
On Friday there were also these other results:
-Lightweight Jorge Cota 8(5KO)-0 successfully passed his test against Jesús Antonio “Chino” Rubio 13(7KO)-6(3)-2 through a unanimous decision win, setting his sights in new steps forward in his still short career. On the same card, super middleweight Manuel Gallegos 20(17KO)-1 only needed two rounds (four less than Diego Pacheco) to beat Jesús “Mazo” Moroyoqui 7(4KO)-2(2)-1.
-The undefeated Thai super flyweight Nattapong Jankaew 10(6KO)-1(1) suffered the first loss of his professional career with a TKO in nine rounds against the dangerous Filipino Adrian Lerasan 12(5KO)-4(1), who surprised him as a visitor and captured a WBA minor title that will take him to the top 15.
-The Belarusian-American welterweight Vlad Panin 15(8KO)-1 continued to extend his streak with a fifth-round TKO over Reggie Harris Jr. 7(3KO)-2(1), and he needs now a first ten-round test.
-Former world title challenger Marcelo “El Terrible” Cóceres 31(17KO)-4(1)-1 walked away from his two controversial consecutive losses defeating veteran former world challenger Javier “La Bestia” Maciel 34(23KO)-17(4) by TKO in the fourth round.
-Flyweight Adrián “Gato” Curiel 20(3KO)-4 defeated Mario “Mayonesas” Andrade 16(5KO)-16(3)-7 by unanimous decision (77-75 double and 78-74), but he is achieving too many narrow victories and it seems very possible that sooner rather than later he will end up being defeated again.

The WBA, WBO and IBF world heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk neutralized with his skill and intelligence the intended push of former champion Anthony Joshua and won the rematch by decision. Thus, Usyk further increased his legacy and got closer to a fight against Tyson Fury if the latter decides to end his «retirement.» Read more following the link.
In the co-main event, Filip Hrgović suffered badly to resist Zhilei Zhang’s punch, but managed to hold on and won this IBF heavyweight eliminator, becoming Usyk’s mandatory challenger. For his part, Callum Smith scored a spectacular fourth round knockout over Mathieu Bauderlique in a WBC light heavyweight eliminator and will challenge Artur Beterbiev. Read more following the link.
The other three fights that were part of the main card were embarrassing: the cruiserweight Badou Jack achieved a controversial victory over Richard Rivera, who was the superior boxer, and Ziyad Almaayouf and Ramla Ali obtained first round wins in mismatches that should not to have been part of this important event. In the non-televised undercard, boxers such as heavyweight, former cruiserweight title challenger, Andrew Tabiti, Ukrainian light heavyweight prospect Daniel Lapin and Olympic silver medalist, also light heavyweight, Ben Whittaker scored new victories. As for the Premier Boxing Champions bill, former world champion Omar Figueroa put will in the fight, but his time has passed and, having lost a lot of performance, he was sent into retirement by former world champion Sergey Lipinets, who defeated him in the eighth round. Leaving aside the three big events of the day, on Saturday IBF super flyweight world champion Micaela «La Princesita» Luján 11(3KO)-1-1 defended her crown for the second time defeating the Mexican Irma «Torbellino» García 21(4KO)-5-1 by majority decision (98-92, 97-93 and 95-95). Anyway, in the IBF ranking there are very difficult potential rivals, and who knows if a unification against her compatriot Clara Lescurat (WBA) could end up materializing, so although the victory over García will be motivating, probably the toughest tests for Luján are still to come.
In the other relevant female clash, former world titleholder Susie Ramadan 29(12KO)-3 ended her long inactivity by beating former champion Tomoko Okuda 7(1KO)-4(1)-2. There is no doubt that the Australian now will work to try to get closer to a new title fight, which would be the sixth of his career.
Closing this article, it remains to be mentioned that the Thompson Boxing event ended with a knockout victory in the seventh round of the American lightweight Rubén “Ace” Torres 19(16KO)-0 over the Venezuelan Cristian “Guarico” Báez 18(17KO)- 2(1).
