Como siempre, el mexicano Eduardo “El Gemelo” Báez 21(7KO)-3(1)-2 ofreció una actuación repleta de voluntad y apoyada en una notable cadencia de golpes, si bien los buenos momentos que tuvo en el combate no le sirvieron para evitar que el campeón mundial mexicano del peso pluma Emanuel “Vaquero” Navarrete 36(30KO)-1 le hiciese sucumbir con un golpe al torso en el sexto episodio.
En los primeros tres rounds Navarrete se movió y trató de usar su jab y sus heterodoxos abiertos curvos para intentar mantener a raya a Báez, pero éste acortó los espacios y llegó con buenos ganchos aislados o en fieras combinaciones. En estos momentos, Navarrete llegó con algún poderoso puño entre oscilaciones en la posesión de la iniciativa, pero la actividad de Báez era alta y ésta convenció a la mayoría de observadores imparciales.
El mismo campeón debió darse cuenta de que la pelea no se estaba desarrollando como él quería, puesto que desde el cuarto asalto se mostró más incisivo con sus arremetidas, llegando con largos jabs y peligrosos curvos que Báez intentó replicar de forma inmediata para seguir manteniendo el combate contendido.
Sin embargo, los éxitos de Navarrete iban yendo a más a través de buenos uppercuts, rectos y ganchos, por lo que cada vez parecía más probable que su gran ventaja en pegada pudiese terminar decantando de su lado el combate a medio o largo plazo. Pero no hizo falta esperar tanto, ya que en el sexto round, tras tirar un uppercut diestro a la cabeza, “El Vaquero” conectó un gancho zurdo al hígado que puso de rodillas en la lona a Báez durante la cuenta completa.
La tendencia según la cual cuanto más grandes son los rivales de Navarrete más dificultades tácticas le crean se sigue afianzando, pero contra un Báez muy determinado y que recientemente generó muchas complicaciones al insigne invicto Ra’eese Aleem (que quedó tocado y se impuso por decisión mayoritaria), el campeón igualmente terminó explotando su pegada y su heterodoxa habilidad para lograr un triunfo contundente. En base a él, Navarrete se mantiene en la lucha en la división del peso pluma para intentar ser considerado el número 1, pero hasta que logre un triunfo ante un nombre de gran calibre todavía habrán muchos que cuestionen su candidatura.

As always, the Mexican Eduardo «El Gemelo» Báez 21(7KO)-3(1)-2 offered a performance full of will and supported by a remarkable punch output, although the good moments he had in the fight did not help him to prevent the Mexican featherweight world champion Emanuel “Vaquero” Navarrete 36(30KO)-1 from making him succumb with a hook to the body in the sixth episode.
In the first three rounds Navarrete moved and tried to use his jab and his unorthodox hooks to try to keep Baez at bay, but the challenger closed the distance and landed good hooks isolated or in fierce combinations. At this point, Navarrete connected some powerful punches between the oscillations in the possession of the initiative, but Baez’s activity was high and it convinced most impartial observers.
The champion himself realized that the fight was not developing in a convenient way for him, since from the fourth round he was more incisive with his attacks, landing long jabs and dangerous hooks that Báez tried to reply immediately to continue keeping the bout contested.
However, Navarrete’s successes were getting more and more menacing through good uppercuts, straight shots and hooks, so as the minutes passed it seemed more likely that his great advantage in power could end up deciding the fight in his favor at mid or long term. But it wasn’t necessary to wait that long, since in the sixth round, after throwing a right uppercut to the head, «El Vaquero» landed a left hook to the liver that brought Baez to his knees for the full count.
The trend according to which the bigger Navarrete’s rivals are the more tactical difficulties they create, continues to take hold. Nevertheless, against a very determined Báez, who recently generated serious difficulties to the skillful and undefeated Ra’eese Aleem (who was hurt and won just by majority decision), the champion again exploited his punch and his unorthodox ability to achieve a resounding victory. Based on it, Navarrete remains in contention in the featherweight division to try to be considered number 1, but until he achieves a triumph against a big name there will still be many who question his candidacy.
