El campeón mundial WBA del peso crucero Arsen Goulamirian se queda sin aspirante obligatorio

El peso superligero Sandor Martín no fue el único boxeador que ayer renunció a una oportunidad WBA, puesto que en este mismo día también se confirmó que el retador obligatorio del peso crucero Ryad Merhy rechazó disputar el campeonato mundial de la Asociación ante el monarca Arsen Goulamirian. Recordemos que en un inicio el aspirante obligatorio real era el peligroso Aleksei Egorov, pero éste perdió su posición simplemente por tener nacionalidad rusa.
Así, la decisión de la WBA de cambiar a Egorov por Merhy ha terminado siendo un fracaso que sólo ha estancado aún más la carrera del “Feroz” Goulamirian, que no pelea desde diciembre de 2019. En cualquier caso, con la renuncia de Merhy, éste ha perdido su título “regular” WBA y ya son 10 las categorías de la Asociación con un solo campeón mundial, restando para completar el proceso de reducción de titulares siete divisiones: el peso pesado, el peso supermedio, el peso medio, el peso wélter, el peso ligero, el peso pluma y el peso mínimo.
Por otro lado, mientras Merhy podría estar apuntando a un ascenso al peso puente WBC, Goulamirian deberá abordar nuevas negociaciones y más meses de espera antes de volver a subirse al ring, siendo en teoría ahora su retador obligatorio el cubano Yuniel Dorticós.

The super lightweight Sandor Martín was not the only boxer who renounced to a WBA opportunity yesterday, since on this same day it was also confirmed that Ryad Merhy refused to fight in a world cruiserweight championship against the titlist Arsen Goulamirian. Initially, the real mandatory challenger was the dangerous Aleksei Egorov, but he lost his position simply because he has Russian nationality.
Thus, the WBA’s decision to change Egorov for Merhy has ended up in a failure that has only further stalled the career of «Feroz» Goulamirian, who has not fought since December 2019. In any case, with Merhy’s resignation, he has lost his «regular» WBA title and there are already 10 divisions in the Association with only one world champion, remaining to complete the process of reducing titleholders just 7 weight classes: heavyweight, super middleweight, middleweight, welterweight, lightweight, featherweight and minimumweight.
On the other hand, while Merhy could move up to the WBC bridgerweight division, Goulamirian will have to face new negotiations and more months of waiting before getting back in the ring, with Cuban Yuniel Dorticós now theoretically being his mandatory challenger.
