Olympian Ali Eren Demirezen won heavyweight bout against Kownacki

The Polish Adam “Babyface” Kownacki 20(15KO)-3(2) and the Turkish Olympian Ali Eren “The Iceman” Demirezen 17(12KO)-1 had a lot at stake in their Saturday clash, since one was on a descending path while the other was ascending. In this crossroads bout, Demirezen strengthened his climb by winning by unanimous decision of the judges (double 97-93 and 96-94).

Initially Kownacki attacked quite determinedly with good one-two-hooks, but Demirezen resisted and countered with crisp hooks to the face and straight shots. In this way, the pressure of the Pole gradually decreased while Demirezen threw more offensives until he ended up taking the initiative. As the rounds passed, the Turk’s steady pace was met by Kownacki’s tiredness, who was eventually driven to the ropes and hit with precision. Even so, Kowancki did not take any critical damage and in the end he even launched a desperate attack trying to avoid defeat, but his efforts were short and late and failed to achieve his objective.

This new setback puts Kownacki’s career in a very complicated position, as it becomes less and less feasible to consider him a suitable match for a high-level heavyweight. Also, if he is matched against an unranked boxer with aspirations and certain qualities, it is possible that it will be a fight with more risk than reward and in which Kownacki could suffer a defeat that could lower his prestige even more. Thus, PBC matchmaking with Kownacki will likely be very careful, unless they want to use it as a stepping stone for another fighter.

For his part, although Demirezen is not an exceptional boxer and it is very difficult to think that he can achieve victories of the highest importance due to his slowness, he is a fighter with tenacity, solid and with good technical fundamentals, so he could be a very suitable rival to test certain top 15 while generating interesting clashes.
