La controvertida derrota ante Ángel Rodríguez en una eliminatoria en febrero frenó los planes del peso superpluma Mark Urvanov 21(10KO)-3-1, pero éste no ha abandonado sus ambiciones. Al contrario, el sábado mostró gran evolución técnica para derrotar por evidente decisión unánime al tenaz Dmitrii Khasiev 12(6KO)-4(2)-2, que fue derribado dos veces.
Las cosas se iniciaron muy bien para Urvanov, que vio premiado su insistente trabajo al cuerpo con un knockdown a través de un gancho al hígado. Posteriormente Urvanov hizo buenas entradas y salidas para conectar variadas combinaciones a la vez que hizo fallar golpes al voluntarioso Khasiev, que recibió nuevos duros ganchos abajo. Por ello, alcanzada la mitad el favorito estaba firmemente encaminado hacia el triunfo.
De todos modos, lo más llamativo de la actuación de Urvanov fue que, aunque en el pasado intentaba hacer acciones técnicas complejas que parecían estar por encima de su nivel y las erraba, esta vez repitió las mismas esquivas, contras con desplazamiento y diagonales pero con gran eficacia. Así, más que el sobreconfiado prospecto de otras pugnas que no sabía hasta dónde llegaban sus virtudes y defectos, esta vez Urvanov dio la impresión de ser un boxeador bastante sólido y con apreciable habilidad.
Así, aunque Khasiev intentó y volvió a intentar atacar a través de combinaciones llenas de tesón, sus manos mayormente fallaron su objetivo o no obtuvieron resultados significativos, mientras que Urvanov contragolpeó y enlazó ganchos, uppercuts y directos al ataque para, entre movimientos, lograr una convincente victoria. Esta la certificó con un knockdown en el séptimo asalto con una derecha a la contra.
El contexto internacional no está a favor de Urvanov para lograr una fácil escalada en las listas, especialmente habiendo elegido hasta ahora una ruta WBA que en estos momentos no puede seguir (este organismo no clasifica a boxeadores rusos). No obstante, teniendo una derrota reciente, igualmente su objetivo debería ser crear una racha de triunfos relevantes que le permitan recuperar el terreno perdido y que demuestren si puede mantener el nivel mostrado ante Khasiev.
Liashkov fue derribado y vencido
El semifondo del evento de RCC Boxing ofreció un entretenido combate del peso supergallo entre el ruso Evgenii Liashkov 10(2KO)-3(2) y el tayiko Asror Vokhidov 10(6KO)-1, choque en el cual el segundo derribó dos veces a su oponente para lograr un KOT en el último asalto.
En el arranque Vokhidov buscó sorprender a su contrincante con agresividad, llegando con algunos amenazantes hooks abajo, pero Liashkov no se arrugó y trató de sacudirse la presión con duros ganchos zurdos y directos diestros. Así el choque se desarrolló igualado y disputado en el comienzo, aunque Liashkov pareció poco a poco ir a más con certeros directos diestros aislados y cortas series de ganchos. Siendo un boxeador técnico y con buen control desde la distancia larga, quizás pudo parecer un error que Vokhidov crease una pelea intensa y con riesgos, pero igualmente éste llegó con potentes golpes al torso que le permitieron estar evidentemente en la lucha por la victoria.
A falta de un punto de inflexión trascendental, el enfrentamiento siguió oscilando, pero Vokhidov conectó las manos más llamativas de los rounds hacia la mitad a la vez que entonces Liashkov empezó a cansarse un tanto. Esto precedió finalmente a un hecho decisivo: un knockdown padecido por Liashkov en el octavo asalto por un cruzado zurdo y otro diestro, caída que desequilibró definitivamente la balanza a favor de Vokhidov. Y es que posteriormente los golpes de poder del visitante marcaron la diferencia claramente y disiparon cualquier duda posible sobre quién había vencido antes de que Liashkov fuese tumbado por una dura izquierda a la contra en el décimo round y el árbitro parase el combate cuando no pudo mantenerse estable de pie.

The controversial loss to Angel Rodriguez in an eliminator in February was a setback for the plans of super featherweight Mark Urvanov 21(10KO)-3-1, but he hasn’t given up on his ambitions. On the contrary, on Saturday he showed great technical evolution to defeat by wide unanimous decision the tenacious Dmitrii Khasiev 12(6KO)-4(2)-2, who was knocked down twice.
Things started off very well for Urvanov, who was rewarded for his insistent work to the body with a knockdown trough a hook to the liver. Urvanov then went in and out skillfully to land various combinations while making miss Khasiev, who received new hard hooks down. Therefore, by the halfway point, the favorite was firmly on his way to victory.
Anyway, the most striking thing about Urvanov’s performance was that, although in the past he tried to do complex technical actions that seemed to be above his level and therefore he failed, this time he repeated the same dodges and counters while moving but with great efficiency. Thus, more than the overconfident prospect of other fights that did not know how far his strengths and weaknesses went, this time Urvanov seemed a fairly solid boxer with appreciable ability.
So, although Khasiev tried and tried again to attack bravely through combinations, his hands mostly missed their target or did not achieve significant results, while Urvanov counterpunched and linked hooks, uppercuts and straight shots between movements to achieve a convincing victory. This was certified with a knockdown in the seventh round with a counter right hand.
The international context is not in Urvanov’s favor for him to pursue an easy climb in the rankings, especially having so far chosen a WBA route that he cannot currently follow (the sanctioning body does not rank Russian boxers). However, having a recent loss, his goal should be to create a streak of relevant victories that would allow him to recover lost ground and demonstrate that he can maintain the level shown against Khasiev.
Liashkov was knocked down and defeated
The co-main event of the RCC Boxing card was an entertaining super bantamweight bout between Russian Evgenii Liashkov 10(2KO)-3(2) and Tajik Asror Vokhidov 10(6KO)-1, clash in which the latter knocked down twice his opponent to score a TKO in the last round.
At the beginning Vokhidov tried to surprise his opponent with aggressiveness, landing some threatening hooks down, but Liashkov worked looking to shake off the pressure with hard left hooks and straight right hands. Thus the clash developed even and contested in the first third, although Liashkov seemed little by little to improve his results with isolated right hands and short combinations of hooks. Being a technical boxer with good tactical control from long distance, it may have seemed a mistake for Vokhidov to create an intense and dangerous battle, but he still connected powerful body shots that allowed him to be clearly in the fight for victory.
In the absence of a crucial turning point, the match continued to oscillate, but Vokhidov landed the most eye-catching punches towards the middle rounds as Liashkov began to tire a bit. This finally preceded a decisive action: a knockdown suffered by Liashkov in the eighth round by a combination of left and right hooks. This definitively put clearly ahead Vokhidov, whose subsequent power shots hit clean Liashkov before he was knocked down by a hard counter left hand in the tenth round. The referee stopped the fight when Liashkov tried to answer the count but could not maintain himself stable.
