Breve: Leo Santa Cruz notifica a la WBA que acepta pelea contra Leigh Wood

La WBA ha informado oficialmente de que el equipo de Leo Santa Cruz, campeón mundial del peso pluma, ha aceptado encarar a continuación la defensa obligatoria ante el aspirante, y titular “regular”, Leigh Wood. Asimismo, la Asociación ha señalado que en los próximos días se darán a conocer los detalles de la pugna, cosa que ha sido puesta en duda por algunos teniendo en cuenta que no se espera que unas negociaciones entre Santa Cruz (PBC) y Wood (Matchroom Boxing) vayan a ser sencillas. Menos aún teniendo en cuenta que la pelea fue ordenada hace meses sin que las partes hiciesen progresos.
En caso de llegar a producirse la pelea, Santa Cruz llegará a ella después de que en febrero derrotase por decisión a Keenan Carbajal, poniendo fin a 16 meses de inactividad desde su derrota ante Gervonta Davis. Por su parte, Wood accedería al duelo tras su victoria por knockout en el último asalto sobre Michael Conlan en marzo.

The WBA has officially announced that the team of Leo Santa Cruz, world featherweight champion, has agreed to face next his mandatory defense against the challenger, and “regular” titleholder, Leigh Wood. Also, the Association has stated that in the next few days the details of the fight will be announced, something that has been questioned by many taking into account that negotiations between Santa Cruz (PBC) and Wood (Matchroom Boxing) are not expected to be easy. Even less considering that the fight was ordered months ago without any progress being made by either side.
Should the bout happen, Santa Cruz will come to it after his February decision win over Keenan Carbajal, which ended 16 months of inactivity since his loss to Gervonta Davis. For his part, Wood would access the duel after his final-round knockout victory over Michael Conlan in March.
