Confirmado oficialmente Oleksandr Usyk vs. Anthony Joshua II el 20 de agosto

En un primer momento se señaló que el 23 de julio sería el día en el que tendría lugar el enfrentamiento de revancha entre el ucraniano Oleksandr Usyk y el británico Anthony Joshua, pero diversas cuestiones hicieron inviable esa fecha y finalmente el choque tendrá lugar un mes después de ella. Y es que ha sido confirmado oficial y definitivamente que el combate de desquite entre ambos púgiles se producirá el día 20 de agosto, cuando encabezará una velada desde la ciudad de Yeda, en Arabia Saudí.
En el enfrentamiento estarán en juego los títulos mundiales WBA, WBO e IBF del peso pesado, en posesión de Usyk desde que derrotó a Joshua el 25 de septiembre, si bien, más allá de los títulos, la pelea será trascendental para las trayectorias de ambos. Por el momento, en las casas de apuestas está situado como favorito Usyk a unos 1,4 € por los 2,7 € de Joshua.
Como parte de la nota de prensa en la que se anunció el enfrentamiento, se añadió una única frase por parte de Usyk:
“Tengo una meta, ¡con la ayuda del Señor completaré mi misión!”
Contrastando con esta breve afirmación, las declaraciones de Joshua fueron mucho más extensas:
“Menudo viaje de montaña rusa, peleando por el campeonato mundial del peso pesado por duodécima vez consecutiva. Gané el cinturón, unifiqué la división, gané otro cinturón, perdí los cinturones, me convertí en dos veces campeón del peso pesado unificado y ahora tengo fijada mi cita con la historia para convertirme en tres veces campeón mundial unificado del peso pesado. Qué oportunidad”.
Seguidamente, Joshua concluyó:
“Pelear en el nivel de campeonato de forma seguida ha tenido sus pros y sus contras, pero he decidido hacerme más fuerte cada día, aprender de mis experiencias y crecer. Un boxeador feliz es un boxeador peligroso, y nunca he estado más feliz y más motivado. Gracias a los organizadores, a 258MGT, Matchroom Boxing y a todos los fans del boxeo alrededor del mundo, en especial a los fans ucranianos que han pasado por un tiempo realmente difícil”.

At first it was pointed out that July 23 would be the day on which the rematch between the Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk and the British Anthony Joshua would take place, but various issues made that date unfeasible and finally the clash will take place a month later. It has been officially confirmed that the second match between these two boxers will be on August 20, when it will headline an evening from the city of Jeddah, in Saudi Arabia.
The WBA, WBO and IBF world heavyweight titles will be at stake in the fight, belts in possession of Usyk since he defeated Joshua on September 25. In any case, beyond the titles, the bout will be transcendental for the careers of both fighters. At the moment, Usyk is the favorite in the betting odds around 2/5, while Joshua is underdog at 7/4.
As part of the press release announcing the championship, a single sentence was added by Usyk:
“I have a goal, with the help of the Lord I will complete my mission!”
Contrasting with this, Joshua’s statements were much more detailed:
“What a roller coaster journey, fighting for the Heavyweight Championship of the World for the 12th consecutive time. I won the belt, unified the division won another belt, lost the belts, became two-time Unified Heavyweight Champion and now have my date with history set to become three-time Unified Heavyweight Champion of the World. What an opportunity
Joshua concluded:
“Fighting championship level back to back has had its pros and cons, but I decide every day to get stronger, to learn from my experiences and grow. A happy fighter is a dangerous fighter and I am the happiest and most motivated I have been. Thank you to the organizers, to 258MGT, Matchroom Boxing and to all the boxing fans across the world, with a special shout out to the Ukrainian fans who have been through a really tough time.”
