Richard Riakporhe y Fabio Turchi disputarán eliminatoria del peso crucero

En un cierto momento el británico Richard Riakporhe fue promocionado por Matchroom Boxing como una futura estrella del peso crucero, si bien cuestionables victorias ante Chris Billam-Smith y Jack Massey supusieron que el púgil terminase saliendo de la compañía. Un boxeador en circunstancias similares es el italiano Fabio Turchi, que hace no tanto fue tratado como una gran figura emergente de la división crucero por parte de Matchroom pero que tras actuaciones poco convincentes, la última de ellas ante el francés Dylan Bregeon, perdió el apoyo de la citada empresa.
Pues bien, hoy se ha confirmado oficialmente que Riakporhe y Turchi se verán las caras el día 11 de junio encabezando una velada de Boxxer y Sky Sports desde el Wembley Arena de Londres, Reino Unido. Además de ser una pugna interesante y bien emparejada por ser ambos púgiles con aspiraciones pero con un inestable equilibrio entre brechas y virtudes, el combate será una eliminatoria IBF del peso crucero.
Se está afirmando mucho que esta será una eliminatoria final para retar a finales de año al campeón Mairis Briedis. No obstante, teniendo en cuenta cómo funciona la IBF y que Riakporhe es 11º y Turchi 12º, da la sensación de que realmente será una eliminatoria semifinal. Hay que recordar que el aspirante obligatorio de Briedis es Jai Opetaia, aunque este último padeció una lesión que conllevó un aplazamiento del mundial que habían ya pactado ambos.
Por otro lado, en cuanto al respaldo del Riakporhe-Turchi, en la cartelera se producirán también un muy buen campeonato de Inglaterra del peso supermedio entre Germaine Brown y Zak Chelli, una pelea del peso wélter entre los exclasificados Chris Kongo y Sebastian Formella y el debut de la oro olímpica Lauren Price.

At one point British Richard Riakporhe was promoted by Matchroom Boxing as a future cruiserweight star, though after questionable wins over Chris Billam-Smith and Jack Massey the fighter ended up out of the company. A boxer in similar circumstances is the Italian Fabio Turchi, who not so long ago was treated as a great emerging boxer in the cruiserweight division by Matchroom but after unconvincing performances, the last one against the Frenchman Dylan Bregeon, lost support of the said company.
Well, today it has been officially confirmed that Riakporhe and Turchi will face each other on June 11, headlining an evening of Boxxer and Sky Sports from the Wembley Arena in London, United Kingdom. In addition to being an interesting and well-matched bout between boxers with aspirations but with an unstable balance between flaws and virtues, the fight will be an IBF cruiserweight eliminator.
It is being stated that this will be a final eliminator match to challenge the champion Mairis Briedis at the end of the year. However, considering how the IBF works and that Riakporhe is 11th and Turchi 12th, it seems like it really will be a semifinal eliminator. It must be remembered that Briedis’ mandatory challenger is Jai Opetaia, although the latter suffered an injury that led to a postponement of the world championship fight that both had already agreed on.
As for the Riakporhe-Turchi undercard, it will feature a very good English super middleweight championship between Germaine Brown and Zak Chelli, a welterweight bout between former ranked boxers Chris Kongo and Sebastian Formella and the debut of the Olympic gold medalist Lauren Price.
