Michael Zerafa derrotó por KOT al invicto Issac Hardman para ganar eliminatoria del peso medio

En las semanas previas al combate había tanta tensión entre los australianos Michael Zerafa 30(19KO)-4(1) e Issac Hardman 12(10KO)-1(1) que daba la sensación de que estaban ya más centrados en la rivalidad entre ambos que en situarse a un paso del mundial ganando este eliminatoria semifinal. Finalmente, tras el combate reinó la deportividad y ambos boxeadores hicieron las paces y tuvieron buenas palabras el uno para el otro, cerrando su competencia, aunque esto llegó tras una gran victoria de Zerafa en el segundo asalto.
Zerafa decidió ceder la iniciativa y usar su timing para llegar con su largo jab y derechas a la contra, aunque el pegador Hardman le perseguía buscando el momento para conectar amenazantes hooks. En esta situación, en el segundo asalto Hardman trató de trabajar con sus ganchos con su adversario de espaldas a las cuerdas, pero Zerafa le sorprendió con un duro hook zurdo a la contra que le tiró al tapiz. En la reanudación Zerafa se lanzó a por el triunfo, conectando ganchos de izquierda y directos diestros contra un Hardman tambaleante hasta que el árbitro paró el combate.
Con esta victoria Zerafa se situará 2º en el ranking IBF del peso medio justo por detrás del aspirante obligatorio Esquiva Falcao, que ganó una eliminatoria final ante Patrice Volny. De ese modo, si el campeón mundial WBA-IBF Gennadiy Golovkin se retirase, dejando sus cinturones vacantes, después de la tercera pelea contra Canelo, Falcao y Zerafa serían los encargados de pugnar por el cinturón mundial sin dueño de la Federación.

In the weeks leading up to the fight there was so much tension between the Australians Michael Zerafa 30(19KO)-4(1) and Issac Hardman 12(10KO)-1(1) that it seemed that they were more focused on their rivalry than on trying to be one step away from a world championship by winning this eliminator. Finally, after the bout, both boxers showed sportsmanship, made peace and had good words for each other, although this came after a great victory by Zerafa in the second round.
Zerafa decided to renounce to the initiative and used his timing to land his long jab and counter rights, while the hard-hitting Hardman was chasing him looking for the moment to connect threatening hooks. In this situation, in the second round Hardman tried to work with his opponent against the ropes, but Zerafa surprised him with a hard counter left hook that knocked him to the mat. After the restart Zerafa went for the win, landing left hooks and straight right hands against Hardman, who was shaken by the punches received until the referee stopped the fight.
With this triumph Zerafa will move to the 2nd position in the IBF middleweight ranking, just behind mandatory challenger Esquiva Falcao, who won a final eliminator against Patrice Volny. Thus, if the WBA-IBF world champion Gennadiy Golovkin retires, vacating his belts, after the third fight against Canelo, Falcao and Zerafa will fight for the world belt of the Federation.
