Stanionis y Butaev ofrecieron excelente guerra terminada con victoria del primero

Lejos de decepcionar, la eliminatoria WBA del peso wélter entre los fortísimos Radzhab Butaev 14(11KO)-1 y Eimantas Stanionis 14(9KO)-0 resultó una tremenda batalla, que no sólo debió haber sido parte del segmento principal del cartel Spence-Ugás, sino que habría merecido encabezar su propia velada. El igualadísimo y emocionante combate, repleto de cruces de golpes, dejó eso sí unos atroces comentarios de los analistas estadounidenses, quienes evidentemente se pusieron claramente en contra del ruso Butaev. Y es que, siendo la situación actual la que es, estaba claro que si la pelea llegaba a las cartulinas jamás le iban a dar el veredicto en Estados Unidos al ruso.
Aunque la victoria por la mínima de ambos podría ser perfectamente justificable, y la cartulina de 114-113 a favor de Butaev fue completamente lógica, los otros dos jueces dieron puntuaciones absurdamente excesivas a favor del lituano con 116-111 y 117-110, siendo esta última de un Robert Hoyle con innumerables puntuaciones muy sospechosas.
Desde la primera campana ambos boxeadores ocuparon el centro del ring e intercambiaron golpes de poder con gran contundencia, estando claro muy pronto que el combate iba a ser una batalla de alta intensidad y mucha exigencia física. Por lo demás, la pugna fue muy igualada, conectando los dos temibles derechazos, hooks y uppercuts, contestándose golpe por golpe y siendo sacudidos ambos eventualmente.
En ciertos momentos pareció que Stanionis tenía más claridad de golpeo, mientras que en otros Butaev pareció marcar la diferencia con sus ganchos al cuerpo. A veces el lituano tenía mayor cadencia de puños y en ocasiones el ruso mayor precisión. Así que a falta de un punto de inflexión el choque estaba muy abierto y los asaltos eran difíciles de puntuar, contraponiéndose la astucia y los recursos de Butaev con la aguerrida réplica de su oponente.
Finalmente, Stanionis pareció dar muestras claras de estar desgastado en el undécimo asalto, en el que fue sacudido por los hooks de su rival, pero entonces el árbitro le quitó un punto a Butaev por empujar hacia abajo a su adversario y golpearle. En cualquier caso, aunque Stanionis pasó por ciertas dificultades éste continuó luchando con tremenda tenacidad hasta el final y en el último round incluso aprovechó a su favor la precipitación de Butaev.
Después de este combate entre dos potentísimos peleadores con extraordinarias capacidades ofensivas, muchos entendieron cuál fue el motivo real de que Ugás se negase a medirse a estos púgiles, ya que tanto Stanionis como Butaev son peligrosísimos y ambos tendrían posibilidades de derrotarle. Sea como sea, con el resultado de victoria de Stanionis, éste se ha convertido ahora en aspirante obligatorio de Errol Spence Jr., al que se enfrentará durante esta temporada si no es que antes se le da al estadounidense un permiso especial para que pelee en una unificación total de la división contra Terence Crawford.

Far from disappointing, the WBA welterweight eliminator between the very strong boxers Radzhab Butaev 14(11KO)-1 and Eimantas Stanionis 14(9KO)-0 turned out to be a tremendous battle, which should not only have been part of the main segment of the Spence-Ugás card, but deserved to headline its own evening. The very even and exciting fight, full of exchanges, had extremely biased comments from the American analysts, who evidently were totally against the Russian Butaev. Taking into account the current situation, it was clear that if the fight reached the scorecards the judges would never give the victory in the United States to the Russian.
Although the victory of both could be perfectly justifiable, and the scorecard of 114-113 in favor of Butaev is more than reasonable, the other two judges gave absurdly excessive scores for the Lithuanian with 116-111 and 117-110, the latter by Robert Hoyle, who has countless highly suspicious scorecards.
From the first bell both boxers stood in the center of the ring and exchanged power shots with great forcefulness, so very soon became clear that the fight was going to be a physical battle with high intensity. For the rest, the bout was very even, as the two boxers connected fearsome right hands, hooks and uppercuts, answering blow by blow and being slightly staggered eventually.
At times it seemed like Stanionis had more striking clarity, while at others Butaev seemed to make the difference with hooks to the body. Sometimes the Lithuanian had a higher punching rate and sometimes the Russian had more accuracy. So in the absence of a turning point, the clash was very balanced and the rounds were difficult to score, contrasting the cunning and resources of Butaev with the fierce reply of his opponent.
Finally, Stanionis seemed to show signs of being worn down in the eleventh round, in which he was rocked by his opponent’s hooks, but then the referee docked a point from Butaev for pushing his opponent down and hitting him. In any case, although Stanionis went through some difficulties, he continued to fight with tremendous tenacity until the end and in the last round he even took advantage of Butaev’s haste.
After this fight between two very powerful fighters with extraordinary offensive capabilities, many understood the real reason why Ugás refused to face these boxers, since both Stanionis and Butaev are extremely dangerous and both would have a chance of defeating him. Be that as it may, with Stanionis victory, the Lithuanian has now become mandatory challenger for Errol Spence Jr., whom he will face this season if the American doesn’t receive a special permission to unify with Terence Crawford.
