La línea descendente que lleva siguiendo durante años el rendimiento físico del kazajo Gennadiy “GGG” Golovkin 42(37KO)-1-1 sigue yendo a peor, teniendo dificultades iniciales ante un Ryota Murata 16(13KO)-3(1) que tuvo un arrojo descomunal para estar a la altura de las circunstancias en esta mayor oportunidad de su carrera. No obstante, Golovkin, al igual que tantas grandes figuras históricas del boxeo en la última fase de sus carreras, todavía pudo usar su clase, su técnica y su inteligencia de ring para aguantar el empuje de su contrincante y cansarlo gradualmente antes de hacerse con el control y cerrar el combate con un KOT. Este llegó en el noveno asalto, tras ser aplazado por el encaje y la tenacidad del derrotado Murata.
El japonés inició el combate con buen pie, anticipándose con firmes derechazos a la vez que Golovkin cedía la iniciativa, aunque el kazajo aprovechó el empuje de su contrincante para conectar en los intervalos en corta peligrosos hooks y uppercuts. Murata tiró repetidos golpes ilegalmente bajos que debieron ser atajados por el árbitro, pero también conectó amenazantes ganchos al torso ante los que Golovkin no mostró un buen lenguaje corporal. Al contrario “GGG” no parecía ni siquiera una sombra del potentísimo boxeador que fue, viéndose claramente incomodado, lento en su reacción e incluso cediendo terreno con facilidad ante la presión.
Con todo, el poder de Golovkin y su selección de puños son temibles en corta, así que en el cuarto episodio impactó un durísimo cruzado que dañó ligeramente a Murata, al que movió con otros curvos posteriores. Este no fue un acierto puntual, sino que en el quinto el nipón volvió a ser estremecido por un formidable gancho zurdo, pero Murata trató de compensarlo arrojando manos con insistencia y frecuencia, además de habituales golpes ilegales. De todos modos, pese a su fantástico encaje, el local se estaba desgastando y cada vez Golovkin iba a más, tanto con sus golpes de poder en corta como manejando su jab y haciendo fallar a su rival en larga.
Con diagonales, cambios de líneas, duros jabs y eventuales fuertes combinaciones de hooks en los momentos en corta, Golovkin empezó a controlar las acciones pese al gran coraje del local. Es más, en el séptimo “GGG” llegó a encerrar brevemente a su contrincante, al que castigó con todavía más dureza en el octavo episodio. Murata pareció por momentos cerca del KOT, pero terminó tirando de voluntad para arrojar una contraofensiva más valiente que eficaz y posponer el desenlace. No obstante, el combate se había roto ya, y Golovkin continuó castigando duramente a Murata con fortísimos golpes de poder, sacudiéndolo terriblemente. El japonés cerró el combate con una última intentona repleta de garra en el noveno round, pero Golovkin esperó con calma y conectó un cruzado diestro que arrojó al tapiz a Murata, finalizando entonces la excelente pugna.
Después de este magnífico triunfo y de unificar las coronas del peso medio, demostrando una vez más su lugar histórico en el peso medio, Golovkin debería poner fin a su carrera y no entrar en el juego que quiere para él la élite de la industria boxística. Aunque su triunfo ante Murata fue muy bueno y significativo para su legado, Golovkin no tiene ya el físico del pasado y eso afecta decisivamente a sus actuaciones.
Por ello, siendo ya multimillonario y no necesitando nada más para entrar al Salón de la Fama, “GGG” cometería un error absurdo enfrentándose al positivo en control antidopaje “Canelo”, ya que en el tercer combate habría muchas posibilidades de que el kazajo fuese derrotado claramente y de que ello fuese utilizado por los propagandistas para intentar hacer olvidar las controversias de los dos anteriores duelos ante Álvarez.

The descending line that has been following for years the physical performance of the Kazakh Gennadiy “GGG” Golovkin 42(37KO)-1-1 continues to get worse, having initial difficulties against Ryota Murata 16(13KO)-3(1), who had an enormous courage and rised to the occasion in this greatest opportunity of his career. However, Golovkin, like so many great historical boxers in the later stages of their careers, was still able to use his class, his technique and his ring intelligence to withstand his opponent’s pressure and gradually tire him out before taking control and close the fight with a TKO. The end came in the ninth round, after being postponed by the chin and the tenacity of the defeated Murata.
The Japanese started the fight very well, anticipating with firm right hands as Golovkin relinquished the initiative, although the Kazakh took advantage of his opponent’s push to land dangerous hooks and uppercuts in the intervals at close range. Murata repeatedly threw illegally low blows, but also landed threatening hooks to the torso of Golovkin, who didn’t show a good body language. On the contrary “GGG” looked far from the very powerful boxer that he was in the past, as he seemed clearly uncomfortable, slow in his reaction and even gave ground easily under pressure.
All in all, Golovkin’s power and his punch selection are fearsome at close range, so in the fourth round he connected very hard hooks that slightly hurt Murata, whom he shook with subsequent attacks. This was not an isolated success, as in the fifth the Japanese was staggered again by a formidable left hook, but Murata tried to compensate the troubles by throwing hands insistently and frequently, in addition to his illegal punches. In any case, despite his fantastic chin, the local was being worn down and Golovkin was getting better and better, both using his power shots in exchanges and managing his jab and making his rival miss at long range.
With diagonals, hard jabs and eventual strong combinations, Golovkin began to take control of the actions despite the great courage of the Japanese. Moreover, in the seventh “GGG” briefly cornered his opponent, whom he punished even more harshly in the eighth episode. Murata seemed close to the TKO, but ended up using his willpower to launch a counteroffensive, more courageous than effective, and delay the conclusion. However, the fight was now broken, and Golovkin continued to punish Murata with great power punches, shooking him terribly. The Japanese closed out the bout with one last brave attempt in the ninth round, but Golovkin calmly waited and landed a right hook that dropped Murata to the mat, ending then the excellent fight.
After this great triumph and unifying two middleweight belts, proving once again his historic place at middleweight, Golovkin should end his career and not enter the game that the elite of the boxing industry wants for him. Although his win against Murata was very good, and also significant for his legacy, Golovkin no longer has the physique of the past and that decisively affects his performances.
For this reason, being already a multimillionaire and not needing anything else to enter the Hall of Fame, «GGG» would make an absurd mistake facing the positive in anti-doping test «Canelo», since in the third fight there would be many possibilities that the Kazah would be clearly defeated and that this could be used by propagandists to try to make the public forget the controversies of the two previous duels against Álvarez.
