La nueva velada de ProBox Promotions este viernes volvió a ofrecer, además de una cuidada producción, interesantes combates y una buena pugna estelar. En ella el excampeón de Europa Mohamed Mimoune 22(3KO)-5 y el imbatido estadounidense Cesar Francis 10(6KO)-0 padecieron knockdowns y dejaron algunos asaltos entretenidos, siendo todo ello además ofrecido a través de YouTube. No obstante, hubo algo que falló clamorosamente en el enfrentamiento: el veredicto de los jueces. Y es que, aunque Mimoune hizo más que suficiente para merecer la victoria y Francis, además de la caída, sufrió el descuento de un punto, los jueces dieron corruptas puntuaciones de doble 95-92 y un 94-93 para otorgarle el triunfo unánime al invicto local.
El zurdo Mimoune no arrancó con demasiada movilidad para lo que él acostumbra, sino que se mantuvo en el centro del ring ajustando ligeramente su posición a la vez que bloqueaba los ataques de su contrincante y buscaba oportunidades para contragolpear. Todavía en el primer asalto, un ataque mal medido de Mimoune le supuso recibir un uppercut diestro a la contra que le llevó al tapiz. Este knockdown favorable a Francis debió hacer al visitante cambiar su planteamiento, pero Mimoune siguió avanzando ante el estadounidense, que frenó su avance con rectos y ganchos.
Sin que la presión del visitante le afectase demasiado, Francis pudo tomar un poco la iniciativa en el tercer round y apoyarse en su mayor cadencia para trabajar con sus uno-dos y sus hooks abajo. Por su parte, Mimoune anotaba algún puño hábil y realizaba alguna buena esquiva pero estaba demasiado inactivo de manos como para mantenerse tan estático. Aun así, en el cuarto episodio un cruzado zurdo anticipándose a un golpe rival hizo que Mimoune arrojase al tapiz a su contrincante. En la reanudación Mimoune se precipitó (incluso tocó la lona al fallar un puño) y, además de no lograr terminar el combate, se cansó, pero había logrado alcanzar un decisivo punto de inflexión.
En el quinto round volvió a dañar con un curvo zurdo a Francis y éste además perdió merecidamente un punto por reiteración en los golpes bajos (el último espantosamente nítido), así que el excampeón europeo afianzó la tendencia positiva y la explotó con precisas manos escogidas al ataque entre su no muy intensa presión. Por momentos, Francis trató de hacerse respetar a la contra, pero llegados al último tercio había perdido tanto energías como confianza y su impulso inicial había quedado superado bastantes minutos atrás. Así, aunque Mimoune tuvo que lidiar con una inflamación preocupante en el lado izquierdo de su cara, el visitante siguió conectando las mejores manos con zurdazos rectos y ganchos diestros para dar forma a lo que pareció una clara victoria.
A costa de un veterano con experiencia de calidad pero actualmente inactivo (venía de dos años de inactividad) como Mimoune se pretendía impulsar rápidamente la carrera de Francis, y sobre el papel se cumplió el objetivo, ya que éste consiguió un triunfo muy significativo para su carrera. De todos modos, este no fue más que el resultado de puntuaciones carentes de objetividad alguna y a todas luces injustas, puesto que lo que demostró la pugna es que incluso una floja versión de Mimoune fue superior a un Francis al que, pese a tener 31 años, y llevar activo desde 2017, le falta mucha experiencia. Así, mientras Francis se acercará a una pelea importante para la que no está preparado, un enfadado Mimoune sufrió su segunda derrota polémica consecutiva después de la padecida ante Tyrone McKenna.
Rápido triunfo de Thun
En el semifondo obtuvo una fácil victoria el peso pesado alemán Christian Thun 8(6KO)-0 sobre el local Amron Sands 11(9KO)-2(2), que perdió en el primer asalto.
Sands empezó el combate pasando al ataque, pero pronto perdió impulso y recibió un directo y un gancho que le condujeron a una esquina. Allí Thun descargó toscos puños que, al no tener respuesta, llevaron al árbitro a parar el combate.

This Friday’s ProBox Promotions event once again offered, in addition to a quality production, interesting fights and a good main bout. In it, former European champion Mohamed Mimoune 22(3KO)-5 and unbeaten American Cesar Francis 10(6KO)-0 suffered knockdowns and had some entertaining rounds, which were aired free through YouTube. However, there was something that failed resoundingly in the confrontation: the verdict of the judges. Although Mimoune did more than enough to deserve the victory and Francis, in addition to the knockdown, suffered the deduction of a point, the judges’ corrupt scorecards were of double 95-92 and a 94-93, giving an unanimous decision victory to the undefeated local.
The southpaw Mimoune didn’t start out too dynamic, but stayed in the center of the ring slightly adjusting his position while blocking his opponent’s attacks and looking for opportunities to counterpunch. Still in the first round, a poorly timed offensive from Mimoune led him to a counter right uppercut that took him to the mat. This favorable knockdown for Francis should have made the visitor change his approach, but Mimoune kept advancing against the American, who stopped his progress with straights and hooks.
Without being affected too much by the pressure from the visitor, Francis was able to take the initiative a bit in the third round and use a higher punch output to work with his one-twos and his hooks down. For his part, Mimoune connected some skillful punches and used some good dodges, but he was too inactive with his hands for remaining so static. Even so, in the fourth round a left hook by Mimoune threw his opponent to the canvas. In the restart Mimoune rushed too much (he even touched the canvas when he missed a punch) and, in addition to not being able to finish the fight, he got tired, but he reached a decisive turning point.
In the fifth round he hurt again Francis with a left hand and the American deservedly lost a point for reiteration of low blows (the last one frighteningly clear), so the former European champion strengthened the positive trend and exploited it with precise punches at attack supported by a not very intense pressure. At times, Francis tried to counterattack with determination, but by the last third he had lost both energy and confidence and his initial momentum had been overcome several minutes ago. So while Mimoune had to deal with a worrying swelling on the left side of his face, the visitor still landed the best hands with straight lefts and right hooks to give form to what looked like a clear victory.
At the expense of a veteran with quality experience but currently inactive (two years without fighting) like Mimoune, it was intended to quickly boost Francis’s career, and on paper the objective was fulfilled, since he achieved a very significant victory for his career. In any case, this was nothing more than the result of scores lacking any objectivity and clearly unfair, since what the fight showed is that even a weak version of Mimoune was superior to Francis, who despite being 31 years old and having been boxer since 2017, he lacks a lot of experience. So while Francis will be approaching a big fight to which he’s not prepared, an angry Mimoune suffered his second straight controversial loss after his defeat to Tyrone McKenna.
Quick win for Thun
In the undercard, German heavyweight Christian Thun 8(6KO)-0 won an easy fight over local Amron Sands 11(9KO)-2(2), who lost in the first round.
Sands started the fight by going on the attack, but soon lost momentum and took a straight shot and a hook that put him into a corner. There, Thun unloaded rough punches that, meeting no response, led the referee to stop the fight.
