Premier Boxing Champions y Showtime han confirmado oficialmente que el día 26 de marzo en The Armory en Minneapolis, Estados Unidos, ofrecerán una velada encabezada por tres enfrentamientos: el choque del peso superwélter Tim Tszyu vs. Terrell Gausha, el duelo del peso ligero entre Michel Rivera y Joseph Adorno y el combate del peso superligero entre Elvis Rodríguez y Juan José Velasco. Como casi siempre, este anuncio ha sido acompañado por declaraciones de los protagonistas, que recogemos a continuación.
El australiano Tim Tszyu destacó pelear en la misma cadena en la que lo hizo su padre:
“Estoy muy emocionado por pelear en Estados Unidos, especialmente por Showtime, donde mi padre combatió durante la mayor parte de su carrera. Estoy orgulloso y emocionado por continuar el apellido Tszyu en Showtime. Una vez que me ocupe de Gausha iré a por el título”.
Por su parte, su rival Gausha se mostró muy dispuesto a encarar este reto:
“He estado listo para este combate desde hace mucho tiempo. Entré en este deporte para ser campeón mundial y pelear con los mejores. Preveo que Tim vendrá en gran estado y yo también estaré en mi mejor estado para ofrecer un gran combate a los fans. Mis entrenadores me están preparando perfectamente para el tipo de pelea que necesito ofrecer para que pueda salir del ring victorioso”.
En cuanto a Rivera, éste ve su duelo ante Adorno como una forma de afianzar sus aspiraciones de cara a un choque contra Gervonta Davis:
“Esta es una gran oportunidad para que muestre mi talento una vez más contra un oponente de gran calidad como Joseph Adorno. Estoy listo para enfrentarme a cualquiera que quiera retarme hasta que llegue mi momento para pelear por un título mundial. Mi meta es salir victorioso el día 26 de marzo y entonces pelear contra Gervonta Davis por su título. Con cada combate me acerco más a esa meta. No puedo esperar para mostrar en la noche del combate todo el trabajo duro que he realizado en este campamento”.
Tras un cambio de entrenador, Adorno está convencido de que lucirá y de que ganará:
“Este combate es una oportunidad para mostrar mi verdadero talento. Sin menospreciar a Rivera, sé que voy a ser el boxeador superior el 26 de marzo. Estoy combatiendo con un nuevo entrenador, Raúl “Chino” Rivas, que ha entrenado a muchos boxeadores con talento, y estoy preparado para mostrarme en mi mejor versión. Estoy más concentrado que nunca y no voy a desperdiciar esta oportunidad. Que todo el mundo esté listo para un show el 26 de marzo”.
En cuanto a Rodríguez, éste no subestimó a su adversario pero sí evidenció su deseo de rendir a un gran nivel y acercarse a las máximas pugnas:
“El 26 de marzo es otro paso adelante hacia mi meta del campeonato mundial. Voy a boxear contra un duro peleador veterano que se ha enfrentado a competición del máximo nivel. Me he mantenido en campamento durante Navidad para poder estar al 100% listo para este combate. Ganar el 26 de marzo significaría mucho para mi carrera y espero que una victoria me sitúe como contendiente para una oportunidad titular este año. Quiero mostrarle al mundo que estoy listo para los grandes nombres en la división”.
Más breve fue Velasco, que señaló:
“Me siento honrado por ser parte de una gran cartelera como esta. Esta es, de hecho, la segunda vez que me he estado preparando para enfrentarme a Rodríguez, así que sé a lo que me enfrento. Va a venir al combate al 100%, justamente como yo lo haré. Que gane el mejor el 26 de marzo”.

Premier Boxing Champions and Showtime have officially confirmed that on March 26 at The Armory in Minneapolis, United States, will take place an evening headlined by three confrontations: the super welterweight clash Tim Tszyu vs. Terrell Gausha, the lightweight matchup between Michel Rivera and Joseph Adorno and the super lightweight duel between Elvis Rodríguez and Juan José Velasco. As almost always, this announcement has been accompanied by statements from the protagonists, which you will find below.
Australian Tim Tszyu highlighted fighting on the same television as his father did in this bout before a world championship:
“I’m very excited to be fighting in the U.S., especially on SHOWTIME, where my dad was featured for most of his career. I’m proud and excited to continue on the Tszyu name with SHOWTIME. Once I take care of Gausha, I will be coming for the title.”
For his part, his rival Gausha showed his willingness to face this challenge:
«I’ve been ready for this fight for a long time. I came into this game to be a world champion and fight the best. I expect Tim to come in great shape and I’ll also come in my best shape to put on a great fight for the fans. My coaches are getting me prepared perfectly for the kind of fight I need to put on so that I can leave the ring victorious.»
As for Rivera, he sees his duel against Adorno as a way to strengthen his aspirations to a clash against Gervonta Davis:
“This is a great opportunity for me to display my talents once again against a high-quality opponent in Joseph Adorno. I’m ready to take on anyone willing to challenge me until my time comes to fight for the world title. My goal is to be victorious on March 26 and then face Gervonta Davis for his title. With each fight I’m getting closer to reaching that goal. I can’t wait to show off all the hard work that I’ve put into this camp on fight night.”
After a change of coach, Adorno is convinced that he will shine and win against Rivera:
“This fight is a chance for me to show my true talents. Not taking anything away from Rivera, but I know I’m going to be the better fighter on March 26. I’m working with a new trainer, Raúl ‘Chino’ Rivas, who has trained many talented fighters, and I’m ready to showcase myself at my very best. I’m more focused than ever and I’m not going to let this opportunity pass me by. Everybody better be ready for a show on March 26.”
As for Rodríguez, he did not underestimate his opponent but he did show his desire to have a great performance and get closer to the fights at the top:
“March 26 is another step toward my world championship goal. I am fighting a tough veteran fighter who has faced top-level competition. I’ve stayed in camp through Christmas so that I can be 100% ready for this fight. Winning on March 26 means a lot for my career and I hope that a win will put me in contention for a title shot this year. I want to show the world that I’m ready for the big names in the division.”
Velasco just stated:
“I’m very honored to be on a great card like this. This is actually the second time that I’ve been preparing to face Rodríguez, so I know what I’m up against. He’s going to come into the fight at 100%, just like I will. May the best man win on March 26.”
