Mauricio Lara venció con duro knockout a bravo pero temerario Emilio Sánchez

Como semifondo del Chocolatito-Martínez se desarrolló una corta pero intensa pelea entre el mexicano Mauricio “Bronco” Lara 24(17KO)-2(1)-1 y el estadounidense Emilio Sánchez 19(12KO)-2(2), quien tuvo más valentía que inteligencia de ring o destreza y que terminó cayendo dos veces a la lona antes de ser duramente noqueado en el tercer episodio.
Las transiciones a posición defensiva de Sánchez tras sus ataques no estaban siendo suficientemente rápidas y estaba cruzando golpes de más con su oponente, por lo que no resultó sorprendente que uno de los potentes puños del pegador Lara, en concreto un gancho diestro, le llevase al tapiz en el primer round. En la reanudación Sánchez pasó apuros, pero terminó el asalto pasando al ataque con mucho coraje.
De todos modos, su garra le sirvió de poco, puesto que en el segundo episodio gastó energías (que no le sobraban) buscando intercambios y le puso las cosas fáciles a Lara, que le estremeció con un derechazo al final del round y que, ya en el tercero, puso fin al enfrentamiento. Después de que Sánchez arrojase una buena serie de golpes que alcanzó a su encerrado oponente y de que ambos cayesen en un derribo ilegal del favorito, Lara dejó dañado con sus hooks al estadounidense, que fue tumbado aparatosamente y sin posibilidad de poder continuar por un directo y un par de ganchos a la vez que el árbitro se tropezaba con él al intentar parar el combate.
Fue extraño que, habiendo vencido a Josh Warrington en una ocasión, no teniendo pugna programada y estando clasificado entonces en lo más alto del ranking, Lara no disputase una eliminatoria final IBF pluma que terminaron realizando Luis Alberto López e Isaac Lowe. Por ello, ahora mismo Lara está por debajo del aspirante obligatorio en ese organismo y no tiene asegurado el mundial a corto plazo ni en esta ni en las demás organizaciones. Así, para poder acceder al mundial el mexicano dependerá de que Matchroom Boxing le pacte una pelea voluntaria ante el ganador del Kiko Martínez vs. Josh Warrington II, plan que aparentemente es el que Eddie Hearn desea para Lara.

As a co-feature for the Chocolatito-Martínez took place a short but intense fight between the Mexican Mauricio «Bronco» Lara 24(17KO)-2(1)-1 and the American Emilio Sánchez 19(12KO)-2(2), who had more bravery than ring intelligence or skill and ended up falling to the canvas twice before getting knocked out hard in the third round.
Sanchez’s transitions into defensive stance weren’t quick enough and he was exchanging punches too much with his opponent, so it wasn’t surprising that one of Lara’s powerful punches, a right hook, threw him to the mat in the first round. After the restart, Sánchez struggled, but ended the assault by going on the attack with great courage.
In any case, his boldness was of little use to him, since in the second round he spent energy looking for exchanges and made things easy for Lara, who shook him with a right hand at the end of the round and who, in the third, ended the confrontation. After Sánchez threw a good combination that hit his cornered opponent and after both fell in an illegal takedown of the favorite, Lara damaged the American with his hooks. Then Sánchez was knocked down hard and without possibility to continue with a straight right and two hooks while the referee tripped over him trying to stop the match.
It was strange that, having beaten Josh Warrington on one occasion, not having a scheduled bout and being classified at the top of the ranking, Lara did not fight in an IBF featherweight final eliminator that ended up being carried out by Luis Alberto López and Isaac Lowe. For this reason, right now Lara is below the mandatory challenger López in that ranking and he has not guaranteed a world championship neither in this nor in the other organizations. Thus, in order to access a fight for a world belt the Mexican will depend on Matchroom Boxing making a deal for a voluntary defense of the winner of Kiko Martínez vs. Josh Warrington II, a plan that apparently is what Eddie Hearn has in mind for Lara.
