Previa: Carlos Cuadras vs. Jesse Rodríguez este sábado en la primera velada de DAZN del año

Por todos lados tenemos indicadores que nos muestran que la temporada 2022 está acelerando, siendo uno más de ellos que este sábado, en el Footprint Center de Phoenix, Estados Unidos, se producirá la primera cartelera de boxeo del año emitida por DAZN. El choque estelar será un remplazo tardío, puesto que, tras la baja de Wisaksil Wangek, el estadounidense Jesse “Bam” Rodríguez 14(10KO)-0 entró al duelo contra el mexicano Carlos “El Príncipe” Cuadras 39(27KO)-4(1)-1 para evitar la cancelación de la cartelera.
Normalmente, cuando un boxeador accede con unos pocos días de antelación a un combate no suele acabar bien, siendo innumerables los boxeadores que han caído derrotados en esas circunstancias. Sin embargo, en esta ocasión todo parece indicar que Jesse Rodríguez podría salir con el brazo en alto aunque muchos le estén infravalorando de forma absurda.
Al margen de que estaba perfectamente entrenado y preparado para combatir al tener programada una pelea en el respaldo del Wangek-Cuadras, Rodríguez es un temible prospecto que, entre muchas otras cualidades, posee una extraordinaria capacidad ofensiva, un uso de las combinaciones demoledor y un fantástico instinto de knockout. Por contra, Cuadras es un boxeador que dejó atrás hace años su mejor momento, que ha padecido serios problemas de adicciones, que no consigue un triunfo ante un rival de élite desde hace bastante más de media década y que llega de una inactividad de 16 meses desde una derrota por KOT ante “El Gallo” Estrada.
Lógicamente, Cuadras tiene a su favor su ventaja en experiencia (ha peleado contra Chocolatito, Estrada, Wangek, Arroyo, etc.) y que está adaptado perfectamente al peso supermosca, al que Rodríguez asciende después de haber estado militando alrededor del peso minimosca. Con todo, “Bam” Rodríguez es un zurdo muy rodado, que por ahora ha arrollado en su avance profesional, que encadena seis contundentes knockouts con excelentes actuaciones y que tiene la misma altura que Cuadras y unos pocos centímetros más de alcance.
Por lo tanto, midiéndose a un boxeador que ha perdido mucha velocidad y eficacia como “El Príncipe”, e incluso si Rodríguez está falto de un salto en cuanto a experiencia de calidad, es perfectamente posible que la explosividad, la pegada y las muy bien escogidas combinaciones del invicto le permitan lograr la victoria y alzar un cinturón WBC que muchos llamarán mundial y que otros tantos considerarán secundario por debajo del “titular franquicia WBC” Estrada.
Ford y Mitchell en el respaldo
Por debajo de este interesante combate la velada no ofrecerá pugnas demasiado llamativas, si bien una está bien emparejada. En ella el prospecto pluma estadounidense Raymond “Savage” Ford 10(6KO)-0-1 disputará su mayor test desde su inesperado empate contra Aarón Pérez enfrentándose a un invicto estadounidense con aspiraciones como Edward “Kid” Vázquez 11(3KO)-0, que debería ofrecer una actuación con coraje pese a ser de esperar que sea derrotado ante su atlético y técnico oponente.
Por lo demás, entre la serie de pugnas con claros favoritos que se producirán, se puede destacar un mundial femenino WBA del peso gallo. En él, la hábil estadounidense Jamie “The Miracle” Mitchell 7(4KO)-0-2, que llega de sorprender a Shannon Courtenay como visitante, se enfrentará a la británica Carly Skelly 4(0KO)-0-1, púgil voluntariosa y fuerte pero tosca y teóricamente muy por debajo del nivel de la cumbre que debería ser superada por el dinamismo y la capacidad contragolpeadora de la monarca si es que esta última ofrece su mejor versión.
DAZN ofrecerá este evento desde las 2:00 de la madrugada del sábado al domingo en hora española, las 20:00 ET/17:00 PT.

Everywhere we have indicators that show us that the 2022 boxing season is accelerating. One more of them we will found it this Saturday, when will take place, at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, United States, the first boxing card of the year broadcasted by DAZN. The main fight will be a late replacement, since, after an illness of Wisaksil Wangek, the American Jesse “Bam” Rodríguez 14(10KO)-0 entered the duel against the Mexican Carlos “Príncipe” Cuadras 39(27KO)-4(1 )-1 to prevent the cancellation of the event.
Normally, when a boxer accepts a fight a few days before it, it does not usually end well, as countless boxers have been defeated in those circumstances. However, on this occasion everything seems to indicate that Jesse Rodríguez could win, although many are absurdly underestimating him.
Adding to the fact that he was perfectly trained and prepared to fight as he had a bout scheduled in the support of the Wangek-Cuadras, Rodríguez is an excellent prospect who, among many other qualities, possesses extraordinary offensive capacity, a devastating use of combinations and a fantastic knockout instinct. On the contrary, Cuadras is a boxer who left behind his best moment years ago, who has suffered from serious addiction problems, who has not achieved a victory against an elite rival for more than half a decade and who comes from an inactivity of 16 months since a TKO loss to “El Gallo” Estrada.
Logically, Cuadras has an advantage in experience in his favor (he has fought Chocolatito, Estrada, Wangek, Arroyo, etc.) and he is perfectly adapted to super flyweight, to which Rodríguez ascends after having been around the light flyweight limit. All in all, “Bam” Rodríguez is a southpaw that to date has overwhelmed his opponents, who is on a six knockout winning streak with excellent performances and who has the same height as Cuadras and one inch more in reach.
So, fighting up against a boxer who has lost a lot of speed and efficiency like Cuadras, even if Rodriguez is lacking in quality experience, it’s perfectly possible that the undefeated’s explosiveness, power and well-chosen combinations will serve him to achieve the triumph and a WBC belt that many will consider secondary below the «WBC franchise holder» Estrada.
Ford and Mitchell in the support
Below this interesting combat, the evening will not have compelling bouts, although one is well matched. In it, the American featherweight prospect Raymond «Savage» Ford 10(6KO)-0-1 will have his biggest test since his unexpected draw against Aarón Pérez facing an undefeated American boxer with aspirations, Edward «Kid» Vázquez 11(3KO)-0, who should deliver a courageous performance despite of probably being beaten by his athletic and technical rival.
For the rest, among the series of fights with clear favorites that will take place, stands out a WBA women’s bantamweight world championship. In it, the skillful American Jamie «The Miracle» Mitchell 7(4KO)-0-2, who comes from an upset as a visitor against Shannon Courtenay, will face British Carly Skelly 4(0KO)-0-1, a willful and strong boxer but rough and theoretically well below the level of the top that should be overcomed by the dynamism and the counterattacking capacity of the champion if the latter offers her best version.
DAZN will broadcast this event on Saturday from 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT.
