La única gran promotora que hará coincidir uno de sus eventos en Estados Unidos con el Benavídez-Plant será Top Rank, que organizará una cartelera encabezada por un combate de menor relieve como el José Carlos “Jaguar” Ramírez 27(17KO)-1 vs. Richard “RC” Commey 30(27KO)-4(1)-1. No obstante, dado que esta última velada será emitida en abierto en ESPN y ESPN Deportes, ofrecerá una alternativa fácil y gratuita para los aficionados estadounidenses que no quieran pagar los 75 dólares que cuesta el Benavídez-Plant.
Evidentemente el Ramírez-Commey no tiene la trascendencia, la tensión y el interés del citado enfrentamiento del peso supermedio, pero no es una mala pelea. Al contrario, es un buen choque de estilos entre exmonarcas mundiales que también tendrá consecuencias en su división, el peso superligero. Ramírez está clasificado como 4º WBO, 5º WBA y WBC y 7º IBF, mientras que Commey es 8º WBO, 9º WBC y 12º IBF. Dicho de otro modo, este encuentro es casi una eliminatoria semifinal para buscar acceder al top 3.
Por otro lado, en cuanto al apartado deportivo, dado que es de esperar que Ramírez intente acortar los espacios para imponer su ventaja en la distancia media-corta y obligue al pegador Commey a intentar hacerse respetar con sus largos derechazos, posiblemente sea un cruce entretenido. Especialmente considerando que ambos son tenaces en el ring.
En cualquier caso, aunque ha estado en varios muy ajustados combates (algunos con controvertidos veredictos), Ramírez tiene la solidez, fortaleza y resistencia como para ganar el combate si presiona con firmeza ante un Commey menos grande, con peor encaje, que no es tan peligroso si se le obliga a retroceder (o si no tiene espacio para sus contundentes uno-dos) y que podría tener dificultades con los bloqueos de su contrincante.
Estrada vs. Rupprecht
El combate coestelar será una unificación de cinturones mundiales WBA-WBC del peso mínimo entre Seniesa “Super Bad” Estrada 23(9KO)-0 y “Tiny” Tina Rupprecht 12(3KO)-0-1. Este enfrentamiento, lógicamente, ha sido buscado por Top Rank para intentar poner las bases para una pugna por el título indiscutido entre Estrada y la monarca IBF-WBO Yokasta Valle. En este sentido, no sólo se pretende que Estrada tenga en su poder los otros dos títulos, sino que el sábado ésta también intentará derrotar a una de las dos únicas púgiles que han vencido a Valle en su carrera.
Más allá de los planes de la compañía, Rupprecht es una buena púgil, con una alta cadencia de golpes y capaz de realizar eficaces entradas y salidas. De todos modos, la favorita en el choque será Estrada que, si bien no podrá tomarse a la ligera a su contrincante, posee una destreza al contragolpe, una profundidad de recursos y una ventaja en pegada y dimensiones que podrían ser clave para que, si es suficientemente astuta, pueda castigar las acometidas de la visitante.
Estos dos enfrentamientos, más la pugna del peso pesado Antonio Mireles vs. Patrick Mailata, serán emitidos en Estados Unidos por ESPN, ESPN Deportes y ESPN+ el sábado desde las 22:00 ET/19:00 PT, las 3:00 de la madrugada en hora española.

The only major promotional company that will make one of its events coincide in time with the Benavídez-Plant card will be Top Rank, which will organize an evening headlined by a less remarkable bout as José Carlos “Jaguar” Ramírez 27(17KO)-1 vs. Richard «RC» Commey 30(27KO)-4(1)-1. However, since the latter will be broadcast on ESPN and ESPN Deportes, it will be an easy and free alternative for US fans who don’t want to pay the $75 the Benavídez-Plant PPV costs.
Obviously the Ramírez-Commey is not a match with the importance, tension and interest of the aforementioned super middleweight duel, but it is not a bad fight. Actually it is a good clash of styles between former world champions, and it would also have consequences in the super lightweight division. Ramírez is ranked WBO number 4, WBA and WBC number 5 and IBF number 7, while Commey is WBO number 8, WBC number 9 and IBF number 12. In other words, this clash is almost an unofficial semifinal eliminator to seek access to the top 3.
On the other hand, regarding the strictly boxing aspect, given that it is to be expected that Ramírez will try to shorten the distance to impose his advantage in the medium-short range and will force the puncher Commey to try to avoid being overwhelmed using his long right hands, possibly it will be an entertaining fight, especially considering that they are both tenacious boxers in the ring.
In any case, although he has been in several very close fights (some with controversial verdicts), Ramírez has the solidity, strength and resistance to win the bout if he presses firmly against Commey, who is smaller, has a worse chin, is not as dangerous if he has to step back (or if he doesn’t have room for his powerful one-twos) and could have a hard time with his opponent’s blocking.
Estrada vs. Rupprecht
The co-main event will be a WBA-WBC world minimumweight unification between Seniesa “Super Bad” Estrada 23(9KO)-0 and “Tiny” Tina Rupprecht 12(3KO)-0-1. This clash, logically, has been sought by Top Rank to start laying the foundation for a future fight for the undisputed title between Estrada and the IBF-WBO monarch Yokasta Valle. In this sense, Estrada not only will look to conquer the other two titles of the division, but on Saturday she will also try to defeat one of the only two boxers who have beaten Valle in her career.
Regardless of the company’s plans, Rupprecht is a good fighter, with a high punch rate and capable of going in and out effectively. Nevertheless, the favorite in the bout will be Estrada, who, although should not take his opponent lightly, has counterpunching skills, a depth of tactical resources and an advantage in power and size that could be key to punish the attacks of the visitor if she is cunning enough.
These two matches, plus a heavyweight fight between Antonio Mireles and Patrick Mailata, will be broadcast in the United States on ESPN, ESPN Deportes and ESPN+ on Saturday from 10:00 p.m. ET/7:00 p.m. PT, 2:00 a.m. in the United Kingdom, where it will be aired through Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Action.
