El combate coestelar del evento Fleming-Suárez fue un campeonato nacional australiano del peso semipesado en el que el invicto pegador Clay “The Weapon” Waterman 10(8KO)-0 logró coronarse batiendo a Mark “2Sharp” Lucas 10(3KO)-5(2) por KOT en el quinto round.
Durante los dos primeros asaltos Lucas boxeó bien, caminando con soltura por el ring tirando jabs arriba y abajo y algún directo diestro o cruzado zurdo. Con todo, el fuerte Waterman conectó manos significativas e hizo alguna seria advertencia antes de que, a partir del tercer round, empezase a llegar con peligro con su gancho zurdo arriba y su directo diestro. Parecía que la solidez, la contundencia y la resistencia estaban del lado de Waterman, por lo que era evidente que Lucas podía verse en apuros más pronto que tarde.
Efectivamente así fue, puesto que en el quinto asalto un gancho zurdo al rostro le derribó, mientras que en la reanudación Lucas fue atacado por alguna andanada más de Waterman antes de que su esquina arrojase la toalla. Este fue el primer combate pactado a diez rounds para el invicto, que ahora como titular nacional entrará en una fase vital para su desarrollo.
Vousiutu mantuvo 100% de knockouts
Antes del choque coestelar de la noche, el peso pesado australiano Toese Vousiutu 5(5KO)-0 por primera vez pasó del primer round como profesional ante el australiano-camerunés Arsene Fosso 4(3KO)-3(3). De todos modos, esta vez Vousiutu venció en el segundo round.
Vousiutu tenía velocidad, explosividad e intención de causar daño, así que desde el primer round descargó golpes de poder en uno-dos, uppercut-directo, gancho zurdo-uppercut diestro y otras combinaciones. Sin embargo, aunque durante un momento pareció que Fosso iba a quedar tocado, durante los tres minutos iniciales éste resistió y aprovechó que su oponente se quedaba parado e inclinado hacia adelante tras sus ofensivas para llegar con alguna buena contra. Además, tras la campana de final de round, Fosso conectó una ilegal derecha que sorprendió y dañó algo a Vousiutu.
En cualquier caso, y a pesar de que el invicto tendrá que hacer mejoras en su resistencia al cansancio y en su defensa, Fosso no era el tipo de oponente para llevarle al límite, por lo que con unos pocos golpes de poder más, en el segundo round Vousiutu hizo que su rival se quejase de un dolor en el ojo derecho, que se diese la vuelta y que renunciase a seguir.

The co-main event of the Fleming-Suárez evening was an Australian national light heavyweight championship in which unbeaten puncher Clay “The Weapon” Waterman 10(8KO)-0 captured the title by beating Mark “2Sharp” Lucas 10(3KO)-5(2) by fifth-round TKO.
For the first two rounds Lucas boxed well, walking smoothly around the ring throwing jabs up and down and occasional straight rights or left hooks. Still, the strong Waterman landed some significant hands and gave some serious warnings before, from the third round, he started to land dangerous shots with his left hooks and straight rights. It seemed that the solidity, the forcefulness and the resistance were on Waterman’s side, so it was clear that Lucas could find himself in trouble sooner rather than later.
Indeed, in the fifth round a left hook to the face knocked down Lucas, and after the restart he was attacked by another barrage before his corner threw in the towel. This was Waterman’s first ten-rounder, and now as a national belt holder he will enter a very important phase for his development.
