El aspirante obligatorio WBO del peso superwélter Tim Tszyu no fue el único miembro de su familia que se anotó una victoria la pasada noche, puesto que su hermano menor Nikita “The Butcher” Tszyu 5(4KO)-0 volvió a poner de manifiesto su pegada y su capacidad ofensiva y acabó por KOT en el cuarto asalto con el hasta ahora invicto Bo Belbin 7(5KO)-1(1).
Belbin intentó reducir la presión de su contrincante con directos y cruzados de derecha, pero el zurdo Tszyu ya causó daños importantes en el primer round con sus izquierdas, sus uppercuts de mano adelantada, sus ganchos abajo y sus combinaciones de hooks a la cabeza. El no favorito mantuvo la compostura bajo ataque e hizo lo que pudo, pero el castigo se fue acumulando de forma constante contra él y en el cuarto asalto “The Butcher” lo derribó y en la reanudación le atacó con numerosos golpes de poder hasta que forzó la detención arbitral.
Mahoney y Mazoudier empataron
Antes de ese combate, los peso superwélter australianos Ben Mahoney 13(7KO)-0-1 y Koen Mazoudier 11(4KO)-2(1)-1 ofrecieron un igualado choque en el que hubo poco que separase a los contendientes, por lo que el resultado final de empate pareció justo.
Dio la sensación de que ambos podrían haber dado más de lo que dieron, ya que, por un lado, Mazoudier quizás era más eficaz peleando en corta pero muchas veces se encimaba y en otras ocasiones cedía la iniciativa sin necesidad, recibiendo entonces los golpes más claros de la pugna. Por el otro lado, puede que Mahoney fuese algo más afilado con sus manos aisladas, pero pasó la mayor parte del tiempo desplazándose cerca de las cuerdas en lugar de avanzar (cuando lograba sus mayores éxitos) y a menudo su cadencia de golpes fue muy insuficiente, lo que le costó perder asaltos ante un oponente más activo.
En definitiva, fue un enfrentamiento interesante y disputado, pero en el que no supieron jugar bien sus cartas y en el que, por encima de todo, mostraron que no tienen todavía el conocimiento táctico para aspirar a combatir en el top 15, pese a que hubo un título menor en juego y Mazoudier es actualmente 13º WBA.

WBO super welterweight mandatory challenger Tim Tszyu wasn’t the only member of his family to obtain a win last night, as his younger brother Nikita “The Butcher” Tszyu 5(4KO)-0 once again displayed his punching power and his offensive capacity and beat by fourth-round TKO the undefeated Bo Belbin 7(5KO)-1(1).
Belbin tried to reduce the pressure with right hands, but the southpaw Tszyu already caused considerable damage in the first round with his left hands, lead uppercuts, hooks down and combinations to the head. The underdog kept his composure under attack and did what he could, but the punishment continued accumulating and in the fourth round “The Butcher” dropped him and, after the restart, attacked him with numerous power shots until he forced the stoppage.
Mahoney vs. Mazoudier ended in a draw
Before that bout, Australian junior welterweights Ben Mahoney 13(7KO)-0-1 and Koen Mazoudier 11(4KO)-2(1)-1 offered an evenly matched clash in which little separated both contenders, so the final draw result was fair.
It seemed that both could have given more than what they gave, since, on the one hand, Mazoudier was perhaps more effective fighting at short range but many times he got too close to his opponent and in other occasions he renounced to having the initiative without any need, receiving then the cleanest blows of the fight. On the other hand, Mahoney was a bit sharper with his isolated hands, but he spent most of the time walking close to the ropes rather than moving forward (when he achieved his biggest successes) and often his punch rate was far from enough, something that cost him losing rounds to a more active opponent.
In short, it was an interesting and contested matchup in which they did not play their cards well and that, above all, showed that they still do not have the tactical knowledge to aspire to fight in the top 15, despite the fact that there was a minor title at stake and Mazoudier is currently WBA number 13.
