El respaldo del Leigh Wood vs. Mauricio Lara contará con peleas baratas y con claros favoritos

Los primeros años de la alianza Matchroom Boxing-DAZN ofrecieron veladas atestadas de peleas interesantes y bien emparejadas. Sin embargo, recientemente el nivel medio de las veladas británicas de Matchroom está decayendo mucho, contando con respaldos baratos y con combates con abrumadores favoritos.
Puede que a medida que el número de suscriptores regulares se ha estabilizado no haya tanta necesidad de intentar atraer nuevos, especialmente ahora que DAZN ha instaurado el PPV en ciertos países para grandes eventos. Puede que la compañía de Eddie Hearn esté ahorrando costes en Reino Unido para tratar de fortificar su expansión en Estados Unidos. O incluso puede que se esté reduciendo la inversión en previsión de una eventual época de vacas flacas fruto de la situación política internacional. Sea como sea, el hecho es que el respaldo del Wood-Lara (los mundiales del peso pluma no son tan caros de organizar como los de otras divisiones) será flojo, como en varios otros casos recientes.
Tanto el combate coestelar como el anterior a éste serán fáciles duelos para el peso superligero Dalton Smith y el peso ligero Gary Cully, boxeadores que acaban de renovar sus acuerdos con Matchroom Boxing y que lo celebrarán anotándose contundentes triunfos ante púgiles muy por debajo de sus niveles como Billy Allington y Wilfredo Flores. Por otro lado, el exranqueado mundial Kieron Conway peleará en el peso supermedio contra el veterano portugués Jorge Silva en un choque mucho peor emparejado.
De hecho, sólo dos combates del respaldo principal tendrán cierto sentido, ya que el peso supergallo Gamal Yafai combatirá contra el siempre competente argentino Diego Alberto Ruiz y el peso crucero Cheavon Clarke afrontará un test combatiendo contra el fuerte pero limitado Dec Spelman.
En definitiva, el combate estelar es muy interesante y valdrá la pena prestarle atención, por lo que no estará de más visualizar antes unos cuantos rodajes para púgiles con cualidades, especialmente existiendo la posibilidad que algún no favorito lo dé todo en lo que para él será un gran oportunidad. Pero la tendencia actual no está siendo buena y habrá que esperar al anuncio de nuevos eventos para ver si sólo se ha tratado de un bache o si es definitivamente una nueva estrategia.

The early years of the Matchroom Boxing-DAZN alliance offered evenings with plenty of interesting and well-matched fights. However, recently the average level of the Matchroom evenings in the UK has been going down a lot, with cheap undercards and bouts with overwhelming favorites.
It may be that as the number of regular subscribers has stabilized there is not as much need to try to attract new ones, especially now that DAZN has established PPVs in certain countries for big events. It may be that Eddie Hearn’s company is saving money in the UK to try to bolster its effort in the US. Or it may even be that investment is being reduced in anticipation of possible lean times as a result of the international political situation. Be that as it may, the fact remains that Wood-Lara’s support (the world featherweight championships are not as expensive to organize as the world title fights in other divisions) will be weak as in several other recent cards.
Both the co-main event and the bout before it will be easy matchups for super lightweight Dalton Smith and lightweight Gary Cully, boxers who have just renewed their contracts with Matchroom Boxing and who will celebrate it by scoring wide victories against fighters well below their levels like Billy Allington and Wilfredo Flores. On the other hand, former world ranked boxer Kieron Conway will fight at super middleweight against Portuguese veteran Jorge Silva in a much worse mismatch.
In fact, only two bouts of the main support will make any sense, as super bantamweight Gamal Yafai will fight the always-competent Argentinian Diego Alberto Ruiz and cruiserweight Cheavon Clarke will face an early test against the strong but limited Dec Spelman.
In short, the main fight is very interesting and it will be worth paying attention to, so it will not hurt to watch a few tune-ups for fighters with qualities before it, especially existing the possibility that some of the underdogs could give their all in what will be for them a great opportunity. But the current trend is not positive and we will have to wait for the announcement of new events to see if it is nothing to worry about or if it is definitely a new strategy.
