En esta jornada el exaspirante mundial del peso mosca filipino Giemel “Pistolero” Magramo derrotó en tres rounds al también exretador mundial Jerry Tomogdan, por lo que vuelve a estar cerca de una pugna decisiva. Crónica y enlace al vídeo del evento siguiendo el link:

Por decisión dividida de los jueces, el campeón nacional sudafricano del peso gallo Ronald “King” Malindi retuvo su cinturón ante Rofhiwa Nemushungwa, pelea en la que los momentos de calidad del titular se vieron mezclados con sus constantes gestos provocadores y acciones extrañas. En cuanto a los clasificados WBA del peso wélter, ambos vencieron sus combates antes del límite. El argentino José “Sansón” Rosa 15(12KO)-0 derrotó al peruano Jesús “El Rayo” Bravo 20(17KO)-7(4)-1 por KOT en el quinto asalto, mientras que el tayiko Mekhrubon Sanginov 13(10KO)-0-1 superó las expectativas al terminar en el primer asalto con el colombiano Janer González 20(16KO)-5(4)-1. Así, Rosa y Sanginov se encaminarán hacia pasos adelante, aunque en el caso del argentino quizás sea en el peso superligero, división en la que finalmente se produjo su choque del viernes.
Pasando a la velada italiana de este día, los favoritos de ambos duelos se impusieron. El campeón de Italia del peso superligero Charlemagne “Charly” Metonyekpon 11(1KO)-0 volvió a derrotar en la revancha a Jacopo Fazzino 6(1KO)-6 con una decisión unánime (96-94, 97-93 y 97-94), si bien en el futuro no muy lejano le deberían llegarán defensas mucho más exigentes en las que no está claro que pueda salir con el brazo en alto.
Por otro lado, el peso wélter Pietro Rossetti 15(7KO)-1 se impuso por decisión unánime (doble 98-91 y un 97-92) al español Aarón Alhambra 11(3KO)-2, primer triunfo haciendo diez rounds que le servirá para ganar experiencia y para conocer mejor cómo reacciona su cuerpo en una pelea larga.
Finalmente respecto al viernes, el veterano tailandés Pipat Chaiporn 47(30KO)-14(3)-2 fue derrotado por decisión unánime (79-72, 78-73 y 76-75) en un duelo del peso ligero ante el indonesio Hebi Marapu 17(12KO)-1, que obtuvo de lejos su éxito más significativo. Con todo, no parece que Marapu vaya a lograr victorias determinantes ante rivales de nivel alto en una división tan contendida y seguramente se tendrá que conformar con aspirar a triunfos salteados ante rivales de nivel medio.
Sábado 9 de julio
El campeón mundial WBC del peso pluma Mark Magsayo derribó en una ocasión a Rey Vargas, pero el exmonarca mexicano fue superior en largos periodos de la pelea con su movilidad y su actividad de manos, logrando un triunfo por decisión dividida y el cinturón.

El aspirante obligatorio de Rey Vargas se eligió en el semifondo, en el que Brandon Figueroa usó su presión para derrotar por KOT en el sexto round a Carlos Castro y vencer una eliminatoria WBC del peso pluma.

La cartelera del Magsayo-Vargas ofreció también una victoria del peso ligero Frank Martin, que derribó dos veces a Jackson Maríñez para derrotarle por KOT en el décimo asalto.

Respecto a la velada de Matchroom Boxing, esta terminó con una nueva actuación agónica del peso pesado Dereck Chisora, que se pasó buena parte de la pelea ante Kubrat Pulev agotado, sin poder salir de las cuerdas y lanzando volados a la desesperada. No obstante, el británico se llevó una decisión dividida cuestionable que le conducirá a una guerra a finales de año o principios del siguiente en la que volverá poner en riesgo gravemente su salud.

Por lo demás, aunque el choque estelar convenció a muchos, el resto del evento de Matchroom fue bastante malo. La eliminatoria WBA del peso superwélter entre Israil Madrimov y Michel Soro terminó con una nueva decepción a través de un empate técnico por corte en el tercer round, mientras que Ramla Ali ganó a los puntos un combate hecho a su medida ante Agustina Rojas.

Antes de esto el peso superwélter Caoimhin Agyarko ganó una pugna ante Lukasz Maciec que, como se esperaba, fue de un solo lado pese a los fallos eventuales del favorito, siendo el choque que abrió la cartelera un amago de combate del peso pesado en el que Fabio Wardley terminó en el segundo round con un Chris Healey en muy mal estado de forma.

Pasando al evento que RCC Boxing ofreció por YouTube, este concluyó con un buen choque del peso superwélter en el que el invicto Magomed Kurbanov se anotó un knockdown ante el excampeón mundial Patrick Teixeira y le venció por decisión unánime.

También obtuvieron una victoria en él el prometedor supermedio Pavel Silyagin, que impuso su técnica ante el mexicano José de Jesús Macías, y el oro olímpico Evgeny Tishchenko, que salió con el brazo en alto debido a que el competente Kureysh Sagov se lesionó.

Estos tres choques principales del evento fueron precedidos por los exitosos debuts profesionales del bronce olímpico Gleb Bakshi, que venció en el primer round al competente Manuk Dilanyan, y del bronce mundial amateur Saveliy Sadoma, que se impuso a los puntos a Farrukh Juraev.

La restante cartelera destacada, la de ProBox Promotions, vio cumplirse los deseos de los organizadores, puesto que se siguió inflando el récord del peso superligero Cesar Francis 11(6KO)-0 con un triunfo unánime (98-91, 96-93 y 95-94) ante el excampeón mundial al borde del retiro Raymundo Beltrán 37(23KO)-10(3)-1. Con todo, aunque un título menor WBO podría darle el acceso al ranking superligero a Francis, éste está imponiéndose de forma demasiado ajustada a veteranos como para que parezca viable que pueda lograr triunfos ante top 15 ambiciosos y bien preparados.
Acompañando a este combate, el peso pesado Christian “The Hurricane” Thun 8(6KO)-1 sufrió su primera derrota con una decisión mayoritaria (73-76, 72-78 y 75-75) ante el estadounidense Curtis Harper 14(9KO)-8(3), lo que dice mucho de las posibilidades de Thun en la división, mientras que el peso crucero Brandon “Bulletproof” Glanton 16(13KO)-0 hizo lo que se esperaba y batió por KOT en el quinto round a DeShon Webster 12(6KO)-6(3)-3.
Terminando con los resultados de este fin de semana:
-El peso crucero Brandon Deslaurier 14(3KO)-4-1 se proclamó campeón de Francia conquistando el cinturón vacante ante Guillaume Hauet 12(7KO)-3(2) con una victoria en el primer round.
-El peso ligero Damián Rojas 16(11KO)-2(2)-1 sumó su segunda victoria en combate a diez rounds con una decisión unánime (99-89, 98-90 y 96-92) ante el encajador Jesús Daneff 10(4KO)-8-3 que sufrió dos cuentas.
-El peso superligero Faycal Rezkallah 7(1KO)-3-1 fue vencido por decisión dividida de los jueces (93-96, 94-95 y 94-93) a manos de Ricardo Fernández 12(7KO)-7, que como visitante se hizo quizás con la mayor victoria de su trayectoria hasta la fecha.
-El peso semipesado Jake Barton 7(2KO)-1(1) no pudo superar su exigente primera prueba ante Mickey Ellison 13(5KO)-4(1), que con un KOT en el sexto episodio capturó el cinturón de campeón del Central Area.

The Argentinian José “Sansón” Rosa 15(12KO)-0 defeated the Peruvian Jesús “El Rayo” Bravo 20(17KO)-7(4)-1 by TKO in the fifth round, while the Tajik Mekhrubon Sanginov 13(10KO)-0-1 exceeded expectations by beating in the first round the Colombian Janer González 20(16KO)-5(4)-1. Thus, Rosa and Sanginov will head towards steps forward, although in the case of the Argentinian it may be at super lightweight, division in which took place his Friday’s clash.
Moving on to the Italian evening, the favorites of both duels prevailed. The Italian super lightweight champion Charlemagne “Charly” Metonyekpon 11(1KO)-0 defeated Jacopo Fazzino 6(1KO)-6 by unanimous decision (96-94, 97-93 and 97-94), although in the not too distant future he will have to face much more demanding defenses in which it is not clear that he can come out with his arm raised.
On the other hand, the welterweight Pietro Rossetti 15(7KO)-1 won by unanimous decision (double 98-91 and one 97-92) against Aarón Alhambra 11(3KO)-2, first victory in a ten round bout that will serve him to gain experience and to better understand how his body reacts in long fights.
The Thai veteran Pipat Chaiporn 47(30KO)-14(3)-2 was defeated by unanimous decision (79-72, 78-73 and 76-75) in a lightweight duel against the Indonesian Hebi Marapu 17(12KO)-1, which obtained by far his most significant success. All in all, it does not seem that Marapu is going to achieve decisive victories against high-level boxers in such a contested division and will surely have to settle for wins against mid-level rivals.

WBC featherweight world champion Mark Magsayo knocked down once Rey Vargas, but the Mexican former titleholder was superior for long periods of the fight with his mobility and activity, earning a split decision win and conquering the belt. Read more following the link.
Rey Vargas’ mandatory challenger was decided in the co-feature, in which Brandon Figueroa used his high pressure to defeat Carlos Castro by TKO in the sixth round and win a WBC featherweight eliminator. Read more following the link.
The Magsayo-Vargas card also featured a victory for the lightweight Frank Martin, who dropped Jackson Mariñez twice to defeat him by TKO in the tenth round. Read more following the link.
Regarding the Matchroom Boxing evening, it ended with a new agonizing performance by heavyweight Dereck Chisora, who spent good part of the fight against Kubrat Pulev exhausted, unable to get off the ropes and throwing desperate hooks. However, the Briton obtained a questionable split decision win that will lead him to a war at the end of the year (or the beginning of the next one) in which he will once again put his health in serious risk. Otherwise, while the main event was entertaining for many, the rest of the Matchroom event was pretty bad. The WBA super welterweight eliminator between Israil Madrimov and Michel Soro ended in a new disappointment through a third-round technical draw, while Ramla Ali won on points a tailor-made match against Agustina Rojas. Before this bout, super welterweight Caoimhin Agyarko won a fight against Lukasz Maciec that, as expected, was one-sided despite the favorite’s eventual mistakes. The ProBox Promotions event ended in the way desired by the organizers, since the super lightweight Cesar Francis 11(6KO)-0 achieved a unanimous decision victory (98-91, 96-93 and 95-94) against former world champion, on the verge of retirement, Raymundo Beltrán 37(23KO)-10(3)-1. Still, while a minor WBO title could give Francis access to the super lightweight ranking, he is winning too narrowly against veterans for it to seem feasible that he could pull off victories against ambitious and well-prepared top 15 fighters.
On the undercard for this fight, heavyweight Christian “The Hurricane” Thun 8(6KO)-1 suffered his first loss with a majority decision (73-76, 72-78 and 75-75) against American Curtis Harper 14(9KO)-8(3), which speaks volumes about Thun’s chances in the division, while cruiserweight Brandon “Bulletproof” Glanton 16(13KO)-0 did as expected and beat by TKO in the fifth round DeShon Webster 12(6KO)-6(3)-3.

-The light heavyweight Jake Barton 7(2KO)-1(1) could not overcome his first hard test against Mickey Ellison 13(5KO)-4(1), who with a TKO in the sixth round captured the Central Area belt.
