Brandon Figueroa apabulló con su ritmo a Carlos Castro para llevarlo al KOT y ganar eliminatoria WBC del peso pluma

Si el para muchos número 1 del peso supergallo Stephen Fulton sólo pudo ganar de forma controvertida a un Brandon “The Heartbreaker” Figueroa 23(18KO)-1-1 que sufría para dar el límite de dicha división, en su debut en el peso pluma este último simplemente apabulló al clasificado Carlos Castro 27(12KO)-2(1), asestándole la primera derrota antes del límite de su carrera con un KOT en el sexto asalto.
Como afirmó antes del combate, al principio Figueroa intentó boxear un poco y no volcarse tanto al ataque, pero esto no le dio grandes resultados y desde el segundo asalto empezó a presionar con creciente intensidad y a crear una pelea de desgaste con su elevado ritmo de ataque. Castro ni se quedó quieto ni se conformó con ser llevado a la derrota, sino que conectó algunas buenas contras con intención de frenar a su oponente, pero Figueroa siguió trabajando con agresividad hasta arrojar a la lona a su rival con una combinación de curvos en el tercer round.
En la reanudación Castro fue atacado duramente en las cuerdas y pasó por apuros, pero desde el cuarto asalto caminó y contestó con toda la determinación que pudo, aunque sin conseguir evitar ser presionado por los persistentes ganchos y uppercuts de “Heartbreaker”. La pelea siguió ofreciendo duros intercambios hasta que en el sexto episodio todo concluyó. Figueroa, que había quedado por un momento en el ensogado, impactó duros curvos y forcejeó con su rival en un agarre hasta situar a Castro en las cuerdas y desbordarle con una serie de ganchos que obligaron el árbitro a decretar el KOT.
La etiqueta de eliminatoria WBC del peso pluma con la que contaba este choque en principio convierte a Figueroa en aspirante obligatorio del campeón mundial Rey Vargas, un púgil móvil, con habilidad y dimensiones pero que por los knockdowns que padece y por sus eventuales fallos defensivos podría encontrarse con mucho trabajo ante la intensa presión de este retador.

If a boxer that many consider the number 1 of the super bantamweight division as Stephen Fulton could only controversially defeat Brandon “The Heartbreaker” Figueroa 23(18KO)-1-1, who then suffered difficulties with that weigh, in his featherweight debut the latter simply overwhelmed the ranked Carlos Castro 27(12KO)-2(1) and brought him to his first stoppage loss with a TKO in the sixth round.
As he said before the fight, at first Figueroa tried to box a little and not attacked as hard as always, but this did not give him great success and from the second round he began to put pressure with increasing intensity and to create a fight of attrition with his high punching rate. Castro tried to not make things easy for him and landed some good counterpunches, but Figueroa continued to work aggressively until he dropped his rival with a combination of hooks in the third round.
After the restart Castro was attacked hard on the ropes and suffered difficulties, but from the fourth round he walked and answered with all the determination he could. However, he could not avoid being attacked by the persistent hooks and uppercuts of “Heartbreaker”. The fight continued to offer tough exchanges until it ended in the sixth round. Figueroa, who had been put on the ropes for a moment, landed powerful hooks and uppercuts, and struggled with his rival in a clinch, until he changed his position with Castro and overwhelmed him with a combination of hooks that forced the referee to stop the match.
As this was a WBC featherweight eliminator, in principle Figueroa is now mandatory challenger for the world champion Rey Vargas, a fighter agile, skillful and with size but who, due to the knockdowns he suffers and his eventual defensive oversights, could find himself with a lot of work under the intense pressure of this challenger.
