The Voytsekhovsky-Gasanov main card began with a well-matched duel between two Russian boxers coming from back-to-back losses as Pavel Malikov 16(6KO)-6(5)-1 and Nikita Kuznetsov 12(6KO)-3(2)-2. In this fight was Kuznetsov who managed to come out with his arm raised by virtue of a TKO in the fifth round.

Although he has suffered crucial losses and tough knockouts, Malikov has good technique, something he showed initially taking the initiative and connecting precise and smooth combinations of straight punches or uppercut-hooks.

Later, Kuznetsov began to advance and there were hard exchanges in the center of the ring, situation in which Malikov’s skill served him to connect good hands but in which he ran the risk of losing again due to his limited punch resistance and his poor stamina. Therefore, Malikov tried to adjust by moving, jabbing and throwing short combinations, but once again in his career he couldn’t help but end up immersed in a tough battle of attrition at close distance, in which he again succumbed.

Gradually the strong Kuznetsov landed more forceful power shots in hook and in the fifth round he cut Malikov’s left eyelid with a punch. Malikov was getting tired clearly and, after being checked by the doctor, he received a combination of straight punches that made him put his knee on the canvas. The fighter got up, but was hesitant when asked if he wanted to continue and the referee stopped the fight.

If instead of draws the judges had given him victories against Evgney Smirnov and Mark Urvanov, perhaps Kuznetsov’s career would have taken a very different course. Be that as it may, Kuznetsov, who in 2018 scored a victory over the dangerous Elnur Samedov, is a very capable and competent fighter who, after this success and returning to winning ways, will continue to serve as a good test for Russian prospects with different levels.
