A menudo algunos analistas acríticos han afirmado que la política de múltiples campeones WBA era útil, ya que según ellos daba oportunidades de “coronarse” a buenos púgiles. No obstante, el hecho es que muchas veces los títulos menores WBA los han poseído boxeadores muy lejos del nivel de la élite y que no podrían aspirar a lograr una corona absoluta ante un púgil de calibre. Esto quedó de manifiesto en el duelo entre el mexicano Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramírez 44(30KO)-0 y el alemán Dominic Boesel 32(12KO)-3(3), exposeedor de uno de los suprimidos títulos interinos WBA que fue vapuleado hasta la derrota en el cuarto round.
La pelea no tuvo historia alguna, puesto que Ramírez atacó buscando alcanzar su objetivo de un triunfo por knockout, despliegue ofensivo ante el cual Boesel hizo poco más que entrar en clinch, lanzar algún golpe disuasorio y retroceder. Una vez situado en las cuerdas, Boesel fue golpeado sencillamente por combinaciones de uppercuts, por variados hooks enlazados con directo, cruzado y uppercut, por zurdazos y otros golpes de poder hasta hacerse pronto evidente que el combate iba a terminar antes del límite.
En alguna ocasión Boesel sacó alguna serie de rectos por orgullo o por intentar evitar la detención, pero siguió siendo golpeado sin conectar manos significativas hasta que, primero, fue revisado por el médico, y posteriormente, ya en el cuarto round, fue derribado por un gancho diestro al torso. Entonces el árbitro detuvo el combate.
Una de las grandes preguntas ahora es si Ramírez, aspirante obligatorio WBA del peso semipesado en virtud de esta desnivelada eliminatoria final, será capaz de derrotar al dinámico, activo y astuto Dmitriy Bivol que se vio ante Canelo. Con todo, hay otra pregunta muy importante, que es cuándo podrá “Zurdo” disputar el mundial contra Bivol, quien de momento no está claro si encarará a continuación o no una revancha contra Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez.
En cuanto al choque coestelar de la velada del Ramírez-Boesel, el peso ligero mexicano William “El Camarón” Zepeda 26(23KO)-0 se impuso al nicaragüense René “Gemelo” Alvarado 32(21KO)-12(1), pero no logró prolongar su cadena de knockouts. En una intensa batalla repleta de intercambios, Zepeda impactó brutales manos, pero el fogueado Alvarado se mantuvo en la pugna hasta el final replicando con coraje y con tanto volumen de golpes como pudo. Aun así, tras los diez asaltos, los eficaces golpes de poder de Zepeda le dieron la victoria unánime (98-92, 97-93 y 96-94), que le debería permitir acceder al top 5 WBA de la contendida división del peso ligero.

Uncritical analysts have often claimed that the WBA multiple champions policy was helpful, as it gave good fighters opportunities to be «crowned». However, the fact is that many times the minor WBA titles have been held by boxers far in level from the top of the division and who could not aspire to conquer a full belt against an elite fighter. This was evident in the duel between the Mexican Gilberto «Zurdo» Ramírez 44(30KO)-0 and the German Dominic Boesel 32(12KO)-3(3), former holder of one of the suppressed interim WBA titles that was beaten until the defeat in the fourth round.
Ramirez attacked looking to achieve his goal of a knockout victory, offensive display against which Boesel did little more than clinch, throw dissuasive shots and back off. Once on the ropes, Boesel was hit by combinations of uppercuts, by hooks linked with straight punches and uppercuts, by hard left hands and other power shots until it became clear soon that the fight was going to end by stoppage.
On occasions Boesel threw a combination of straight punches out of pride or to try to avoid defeat, but he continued to get hit without landing significant hands until, first, he was checked out by the doctor, and later, in the fourth round, he was knocked down by a right hook to the body. Then the referee ended the one-sided fight.
One of the big questions is whether Ramirez, now the mandatory WBA light heavyweight challenger, will be able to defeat the dynamic, active and cunning Dmitriy Bivol that was seen against Canelo. However, there is another important question, which is when «Zurdo» will be able to fight against Bivol, as at the moment it is not clear if the champion will next face a rematch against Saúl «Canelo» Álvarez.
In the co-main event of the Ramírez-Boesel evening, the Mexican lightweight William “El Camarón” Zepeda 26(23KO)-0 beat Nicaraguan René “Gemelo” Alvarado 32(21KO)-12(1), but not prolonged his streak of knockouts. In an intense battle full of exchanges, Zepeda landed brutal hands, but the experienced Alvarado stayed in the fight until the end, answering with courage and with as much volume of punches as he could. Even so, after ten rounds, Zepeda’s effective power shots gave him the unanimous decision victory (98-92, 97-93 and 96-94), which should allow him to enter the top 5 WBA of the disputed lightweight division.
