Después de conseguir una plata nacional como amateur y dos títulos franceses profesionales, en la noche del viernes Cassandra Crevecoeur 5(0KO)-0 añadió a su palmarés el título de campeona de Europa, cinturón que conquistó venciendo a la espigada rumana, residente en Suiza, Gabriela Timar 6(2KO)-1 por decisión unánime. Las tarjetas de los jueces fueron demasiado ajustadas al dar triple 96-94.
En el primer asalto, la zurda Timar, que tenía visible ventaja en altura, caminó bien por el ring y usó sus jabs y sus izquierdas rectas ante su rival, que analizó la situación sin arrojar ofensivas. Sin embargo, desde el segundo episodio Crevecoeur empezó a lanzar decididos ataques con los que llevó contra las cuerdas a su contrincante antes de arrojarle furiosas series de rectos o hooks. Eventualmente, Timar siguió llegando con algún buen directo en los intervalos con espacios, pero la sólida Crevecoeur usó sus bloqueos y sus esquivas de cintura para evitar manos y aguardar el momento para lanzar uno de sus intensos ataques.
Pasada la mitad, la rumana estaba en una posición muy complicada, ya que se le estaba escapando el combate y no podía quebrar el control táctico de su oponente, aunque entonces intentó aumentar su movilidad y su cadencia de golpeo anticipándose para tratar de mantener a raya a Crevecoeur. Sin embargo, aunque Timar llegó de nuevo con certeros contragolpes de mano adelantada, el corte de ring de la local siguió siendo realmente efectivo y su trabajo ofensivo resultó encomiable, descargando combinaciones con tenacidad entre movimientos de cintura. Por ello, terminados los diez rounds era evidente que Crevecoeur merecía ser coronada campeona de Europa.
La división del peso minimosca femenino no ofrece grandes posibilidades en el panorama europeo, habiendo un muy reducido número de boxeadoras ante las que Crevecoeur podría defender su cinto. De todos modos, si con sólo cuatro combates Crevecoeur fue capaz de ofrecer una actuación tan buena, en la que tuvo presión firme, gran timing y precisión así como notable consistencia, todo parece indicar que tiene un futuro muy prometedor.

After winning a national silver medal as an amateur and two professional French belts, on Friday night Cassandra Crevecoeur 5(0KO)-0 added to her achievements the European title, which she conquered by defeating the tall Romanian, resident in Switzerland, Gabriela Timar 6(2KO)-1 by unanimous decision. The judges’ scorecards were too close: triple 96-94.
In the first round, the southpaw Timar, who had a visible height advantage, walked well around the ring and used her jabs and straight lefts against her opponent, who analyzed the situation without throwing offensives. However, from the second round Crevecoeur began to attack with determination, putting her opponent against the ropes before throwing at her furious combinations of straights or hooks. Timar eventually connected some good straight punches in the intervals with distance, but the solid Crevecoeur used her blocks and her waist dodges to avoid hands and wait for the moment to throw one of her intense attacks.
After the first half, the Romanian was in a very difficult position, since the fight was slipping away from her and she could not break her opponent’s tactical control, although she then tried to increase her mobility and her punching rate trying to keep Crevecoeur at bay. However, although Timar landed again some accurate lead hand counterpunches, the local’s ring cut continued to be really effective and her offensive work was commendable, unleashing combinations with tenacity between waist movements. Therefore, after ten rounds it was clear that Crevecoeur deserved to be crowned European champion.
The women’s light flyweight division does not offer great possibilities on the European scene, since there is a very small number of boxers against whom Crevecoeur could defend her belt. Anyway, if with only four bouts Crevecoeur was able to deliver such a good performance, in which she had steady pressure, great timing and precision as well as remarkable consistency, everything seems to indicate that she has a very promising future.
