En el respaldo de la velada de Golden Boy Promotions Gesta-Díaz se produjeron cuatro victorias por detención de prospectos. Entre ellos estuvo el peso ligero Jousce González 12(11KO)-0-1, hermano menor del exretador mundial Joet González que se anotó un triunfo en el sexto asalto sobre el mexicano Jairo “Doberman” López 26(17KO)-15(7).
Con desordenadas entradas o permaneciendo cuerpo a cuerpo, López intentó atacar con voluntad, pero González le recibió con contundentes hooks que fueron yendo a más hasta que derribaron a su adversario en el segundo asalto. “Doberman” López cayó dos veces más en el tercer episodio, en una ocasión al ser perseguido y golpeado tras recibir un duro directo al torso y la otra con varios curvos (el último fue en la parte trasera de la cabeza), por lo que pareció que el combate estaba a punto de terminar.
Sin embargo, en adelante cada vez que González encerró a su rival y le puso en una posición crítica con sus golpes de poder, López sacó fuerzas de flaqueza y respondió con mucho más coraje que peligro, evitando la detención. De todos modos, López estaba sufriendo un castigo preocupante y estaba perdiendo el combate con mucha amplitud, así que era conveniente detener el duelo, algo que sucedió finalmente en el sexto episodio, cuando fue estremecido por un uppercut.
Más rápidamente resolvió su pelea el peso gallo Manuel Flores 12(9KO)-0, que batió a Víctor “Pelón” Ruiz 23(16KO)-13(7) en el tercer asalto.
Sólido y ordenado, en el primer asalto Flores impuso su jab empujando hacia las cuerdas a Ruiz, que en el segundo round empezó a recibir compactos uno-dos y directos-hook. Finalmente, alcanzado el tercer episodio empezaron los serios apuros para Ruiz, que cayó dos veces por combinaciones de rectos antes de que una izquierda le tumbase por tercera ocasión y el árbitro decretase la conclusión.
Este combate fue precedido por otro en el que hubo un desenlace deslucido, puesto que el peso mosca mexicano Jan Salvatierra 8(4KO)-1 venció al veterano estadounidense Ernie Márquez 10(3KO)-18(9)-2 en el segundo asalto debido a una lesión.
Situándose ambos en el centro del ring, Salvatierra fue más eficaz tanto cuando cruzaron jabs como cuando empezaron a lanzarse hooks, pero no fue el acierto con sus manos el que decidió el choque. Al intentar evitar una derecha recta al torso, Márquez cayó al tapiz, torciéndose el tobillo derecho y dando muestras de dolor. Aunque el púgil se puso en pie, el árbitro consideró que no estaba en condiciones de continuar.
Finalmente, el evento se abrió con la victoria de Jorge Chávez 2(2KO)-0 con un knockout en el segundo episodio de un combate del peso pluma ante Jonathan Tejeda 0(0KO)-2(2).
Chávez fue más explosivo y estuvo más afilado, conectando amenazantes hooks y uppercuts antes de que en el segundo asalto Tejeda cayese tras recibir un curvo diestro arriba precedido por un hook al cuerpo con esta misma mano, completando el árbitro su cuenta.
