Nuevamente, este viernes MTK Global ofrecerá una interesante velada desde el York Hall de Londres, Reino Unido, que será ofrecida gratuitamente a través de YouTube. En ella tendrán lugar un campeonato británico, otro inglés y la participación de un invicto prospecto kazajo, todo ello acompañado de peleas de desarrollo para jóvenes miembros de la compañía.
Un muy buen choque estelar
La pelea principal de la noche será el campeonato por el vacante cinturón británico del peso ligero, y por el título de la Commonwealth, entre el fogueado Gavin Gwynne 14(3KO)-2(1) y el invicto Luke Willis 11(1KO)-0, pugna que además llevará al ganador a un importante encuentro en el ámbito nacional en este mismo año. Al combate los púgiles entran en situaciones diferentes.
Por un lado, Gwynne, que padeció derrotas ofreciendo valientes esfuerzos ante Joe Cordina y James Tennyson, dio un vuelco a su carrera el pasado año logrando una imporantísima victoria contra pronóstico ante un prospecto de buena carrera amateur como Sean McComb, pretendiendo ahora afianzar su buen momento logrando el mayor título de su trayectoria hasta la fecha ante un invicto.
Por su parte, Willis, que no tiene mucho tiempo que perder después de una entrada en el boxeo profesional algo tardía y un parón de casi dos años y medio, encarará en su 12º combate su pelea más difícil como profesional tras conseguir una muy valiosa victoria en una velada de Matchroom Boxing ante el combativo Rylan Charlton.
En cuanto a lo estrictamente boxístico, este se presenta como un choque de estilos con evidentes alicientes y con cuestiones en el aire, dado que un Gwynne muy aguerrido e insistente y que presiona con determinación se enfrentará a un Willis zurdo, técnico, elusivo y un tanto heterodoxo en sus acciones pero eficaz. Valorando los precedentes de ambos, Willis tiene la capacidad para usar su jab y sus contras con precisión y podría aprovechar el decidido avance de su contrincante, pero Gwynne no se rendirá y seguirá tratando de marcar la diferencia con su tesón y sus combinaciones, pudiendo explotar la guardia abierta que a veces porta su rival.
Así, realmente la diferencia la marcará quien logre ejecutar mejor su táctica y quien lidie mejor con las dificultades que le creará su oponente, si bien quizás Gwynne será considerado ligero favorito habiendo alcanzado dos veces el duodécimo asalto (Willis sólo ha peleado una vez a 10 rounds) y midiéndose a un contrincante cuyo boxeo no fue demasiado bien valorado por los jueces en su última victoria (ganó sólo por un punto al agresivo Charlton).
Cambio de rival para Zaurbek
El prometedor peso superpluma kazajo Sultan Zaurbek 12(8KO)-0 está demostrando que pronto podría ser un aspirante insigne en la división, ya que a penas ha perdido asaltos (incluso ante rivales competentes) y está teniendo un boxeo muy eficaz. Así, este plata mundial juvenil y oro asiático está ya clasificado como 8º WBA y 13º WBO, posicionamiento que tenía pensado mejorar enfrentándose este viernes a Haithem Laamouz 17(7KO)-1 por un título menor de la Organización.
No obstante, según se apunta, Laamouz no podrá disputar el combate y se le ha tenido que buscar a Zaurbek un remplazo de última hora, entrando a la pugna el argentino Nicolás “Pitbull” Botelli 11(6KO)-6(3), que ha sufrido claras derrotas en sus mayores retos hasta la fecha. De ese modo, es de esperar que el hábil y sólido Zaurbek pueda lograr una contundente victoria, estando por ver si se logrará un cinto menor para el duelo que le permita cumplir su objetivo de escalar puestos en el ranking WBO.
Gilley encara primera defensa
Además de los diversos prospectos de MTK que participarán en el evento, como Carl Fail, Pierce O’Leary o Elliot Whale, en la cartelera destaca un campeonato de Inglaterra del peso superwélter. Este cinturón tratará de ser defendido por el campeón Sam Gilley 13(6KO)-1, que encadena dos victorias desde su derrota en un igualado combate ante Danny Ball. Su oponente será Drew Brown 12(1KO)-0, púgil invicto, con algunas victorias meritorias y que seguramente ofrecerá un esfuerzo muy notable en esta primera pelea titular de su carrera.
Con todo, el aspirante llegará al combate con más de dos años y medio de inactividad y habiendo peleado sólo una vez más allá del cuarto asalto, de modo que un Gilley con más bagaje será favorito para retener su cinturón en un quizás entretenido choque.

Once again, this Friday MTK Global will offer an interesting evening from the York Hall in London, United Kingdom, which will be broadcasted free through YouTube to the major part of the world. In it there will be a British championship, an English championship and the participation of an undefeated Kazakh prospect, all of it accompanied by development fights for young members of the company.
A very good main clash
The main fight of the night will be a championship for the vacant British lightweight belt, and for the Commonwealth title, between the hardened Gavin Gwynne 14(3KO)-2(1) and the undefeated Luke Willis 11(1KO)-0, a duel that will take the winner to an important bout at the national level in this year. The boxers enter the championship into different situations.
On the one hand, Gwynne, who suffered losses offering valiant efforts against Joe Cordina and James Tennyson, turned his career around last year achieving a very important upset victory against a prospect with a good amateur career (Sean McComb), and now is trying to consolidate his good moment achieving the most important title of his career to date against an undefeated fighter.
On the other hand, Willis, who does not have much time to lose after a somewhat late entry into professional boxing and a break of almost two and a half years, will face his most difficult fight as a professional in his 12th bout after getting a remarkable victory against the combative Rylan Charlton in a Matchroom Boxing evening.
This seems a clash of styles with obvious interest and with questions in the air, as a seasoned and insistent Gwynne, who presses with determination, will face a technical and elusive southpaw in Willis, who is a bit unorthodox in his actions but effective. Taking into account the precedents of both boxers, Willis has the ability to use his jab and his counters with precision and could take advantage of his opponent’s brave advance, but Gwynne will not give up and will continue trying to make a difference with his tenacity and his combinations, and perhaps would be able to exploit the open guard that sometimes his rival uses.
Thus, the difference will really be made by who manages to execute his tactics better and who deals better with the difficulties that his opponent will create, although perhaps Gwynne will be considered a slight favorite having twice reached the twelfth round (Willis has only fought once at 10 rounds) and facing an opponent whose boxing was not very well valued by the judges in his last victory (Willis defeated the aggressive Charlton by just one point).
Change of rival for Zaurbek
The promising Kazakh super featherweight Sultan Zaurbek 12(8KO)-0 is proving that he could soon be a top contender in the division, as he has barely lost rounds (even against competent opponents) and is displaying a very effective boxing. Thus, this world youth silver and Asian gold medalist is ranked as 8th WBA and 13th WBO, a position that he planned to improve this Friday by facing Haithem Laamouz 17(7KO)-1 for a minor belt of the Organization.
However, it is reported that Laamouz will not be able to participate in the fight and that Zaurbek will clash against a late replacement: the Argentine Nicolás «Pitbull» Botelli 11(6KO)-6(3), who has suffered clear defeats in his biggest challenges to date. In this way, it is to be expected that the skillful and solid Zaurbek will achieve a stoppage victory, so just remains to be seen if a minor belt will be put at stake in the duel to allow him to fulfill his objective of climbing positions in the WBO ranking.
Gilley faces first defense
In addition to the various MTK prospects that will participate in the event, such as Carl Fail, Pierce O’Leary or Elliot Whale, on the card stands out an English super welterweight championship. The owner of this belt is Sam Gilley 13(6KO)-1, who has chained two victories since his defeat in an even match against Danny Ball. His opponent will be Drew Brown 12(1KO)-0, an undefeated fighter with some meritorious victories who will surely offer a very notable effort in this first title fight of his career.
Still, the challenger will come into the fight with more than two and a half years of inactivity and having past the fourth round only once, so a more experienced Gilley will be favorite to retain his title in a perhaps entertaining clash.
