Michel Rivera remained within reach of a great opportunity at lightweight by beating the undefeated Joseph Adorno

It is true that his opponent did not have a great performance and that with many of his decisions he made things easy for him, but the Dominican lightweight Michel Rivera 23(14KO)-0 showed his talent again and obtained a wide unanimous decision victory over the undefeated American Joseph Adorno 14(12KO)-1-2 in the co-feature of the Tszyu-Gausha event. The judges’ scorecards were somewhat generous with Adorno: triple 97-93.

As in the first part the fight was a duel of jabs, Rivera’s hand speed, skill, range and precision put him ahead, connecting sharp jabs while avoiding a good number of the hands of his opponent. In this situation, Adorno should have looked for a tactical change, but simply moved more when Rivera quickened his pace and threw serious attacks with his one-two.

Although he focused on walking the ring, Adorno could not prevent the calm Dominican from studying him until finding the moment to connect his jab or some left hook when he was careless in defense or stopped at close range. In the sixth round, Adorno hit his opponent with a counter right hook that shook his opponent slightly, showing that with good timing and courage at close distance he could exploit his punch and take advantage of Rivera’s carelessness to get positive results.

However, in general terms, Adorno continued to have a very irresolute and inactive tactical approach that, with sporadic and imprecise attacks and refusing to exchange at close range, did not create a significant obstacle to Rivera’s skill. Thus, the favorite maintained his methodical and cautious but effective pressure until the end and obtained the unanimous decision victory.

Rivera’s wish is to reach a fight against Gervonta Davis after the match that this boxer will have against Rolando Romero, objective that he could end up fulfilling through a mandatory oportunity, as the Dominican won a WBA eliminator and «Tank» is a secondary titlist in organization. However, beyond the decisions of the sanctioning bodies, considering that Davis is a huge income generator and a famous name, it will be decisive for Rivera to get this fight in the short term that PBC and the American boxing industry consider the duel as a satisfactory option for their interests and that this is the right time for it to take place.
