El día 19 de marzo la división del peso superwélter vivirá su gran combate, la pugna por la corona indiscutida y duelo de revancha entre Brian Castaño y Jermell Charlo. Después de este enfrentamiento al monarca que posea las cuatro coronas de la división le tocará o hacer frente a los diversos aspirantes obligatorios que tiene ya designados o abandonar sus coronas y dar la oportunidad de que surjan nuevos campeones en la categoría.
En una u otra dirección, la de retador al titular unificado o la de coaspirante a un cetro vacante, hay cuatro boxeadores que un par de semanas después del Charlo-Castaño II intentarán lograr victorias cruciales que les aseguren su hueco en la cumbre.
Según reveló primero Keith Idec, el día 9 de abril Premier Boxing Champions ofrecerá a través de Showtime una velada que estará encabezada por la eliminatoria final WBC del peso superwélter entre Erickson Lubin y Sebastián Fundora. Además, Mike Coppinger añadió que en el respaldo televisado el excampeón mundial Tony Harrison y el español Sergio García (que llega de perder controvertidamente ante el citado Fundora en una eliminatoria semifinal) se verán las caras en otra muy buena pugna del peso superwélter.
Por si esto fuese poco, se habla de que el insigne prospecto del peso wélter Jaron Ennis podría ser parte también de la retransmisión, encarando una eliminatoria final, si bien por ahora en este último punto hay pocas certezas. En cualquier caso, incluso aunque el evento televisado estuviese compuesto “sólo” por el Lubin-Fundora, el Harrison-García y una pelea de relleno, esta velada resultaría una cita crucial en el calendario de la división del peso superwélter y una garantía de combates interesantes y con alicientes.
