The World Boxing Super Series appoints a new CEO trying to refloat

In the middle of last year, after a second season that was an organizational nonsense in terms of payments, dates, etc., it was announced that the tournament World Boxing Super Series was going to have a third season focused on the female super featherweight but, as could be told immediately, the plan needed the collaboration of Matchroom Boxing and Top Rank. However, the tournament had been announced without taking into account these companies, which are focused on their own plans, so the third season of the WBSS has not taken a single step forward, many considering that this initiative is dead.

Season 3 may need some major planning changes and may come even later than expected, but the organizers of this tournament don’t want it to end, so some changes have been put in place. The most important of them has been the official appointment as new CEO of Thomas Schmidt, who was one of the three founders of the World Boxing Super Series in 2016 but who ended up away from the project.

Now Schmidt, who has worked in the music industry, in the media and who, above all, has been part of the audiovisual distribution of the Champions League, will try to put order in the WBSS and will try to create viability for the tournament, although for the moment we will have to wait a few weeks or months to see how this materializes in the boxing orbit.
