Terence Crawford files multimillion-dollar lawsuit against Top Rank

A little over a month ago, the contract between Terence Crawford and Top Rank ended, time frame in which the boxer’s lawyers have had time to draw up a 23-page lawsuit against the aforementioned company. Indeed, Crawford accuses Top Rank, among other things, of breach of contract and negligent misrepresentation. Also, the fighter claims that the injustices allegedly committed against him are due to Arum having a racial bias against black boxers.

For the moment, Arum has limited his answer to an official statement in which he says that the lawsuit is only a malicious attempt to extort him and that the accusations of racism are vile and indefensible, also reminding that throughout all his career he has represented black boxers, including Muhammad Ali, Marvin Hagler, Sugar Ray Leonard, etc.

In short, the lawsuit asks that, in addition to the damages, Top Rank pays Crawford more than five million dollars, based on the fact that in 2018 he was not given one more fight that the company was obliged to guarantee him and that he wasn’t payed the bonus of 900,000 dollars that was promised if a clash between him and Errol Spence could not be agreed. The allegations stating that Top Rank has improperly represented Crawford were supported in the lawsuit by several quotes in which Bob Arum publicly noted that he was losing money with each bout of the fighter.

This episode has only just begun and we must wait to see what the official response from Top Rank is and if later the parties can reach an agreement that prevents them from ending up in a trial.
