PBC anuncia cartelera televisada del Vargas vs. Foster: Barrios vs. Santiago y Pero vs. Faust en el respaldo principal

Un mes después de que se produjese la primera velada del año de PBC con el evento Gervonta Davis vs. Héctor Luis García, el conglomerado promocional organizará un evento que estará encabezado por el mundial WBC por el vacante cinturón del peso superpluma entre el mexicano Rey Vargas y el estadounidense O’Shaquie Foster. Este duelo, que tendrá lugar en el Alamodome de San Antonio, Estados Unidos, televisado por Showtime, se producirá el día 11 de febrero.
En él, el excampeón mundial supergallo, y actual monarca del peso pluma, Vargas intentará convertirse en titular mundial en una tercera división ante un Foster en racha de nueve triunfos, en el mejor momento de su carrera y repleto de motivación por disputar su primer campeonato. Sin duda, un muy interesante choque entre dos boxeadores con estilos diferentes que decidirá al sucesor de Shakur Stevenson como titular del Consejo en la división.
Junto a este enfrentamiento, PBC ha anunciado ahora oficialmente qué otros dos combates conformarán la cartelera televisada. Empezando por el semifondo, este será un choque a diez asaltos en el peso wélter entre el estadounidense Mario Barrios y el puertorriqueño Jovanie Santiago, quienes buscarán regresar a la senda del triunfo e intentar acceder a una nueva pelea de relieve. Hay que recordar que Barrios viene de ser vencido por “Tank” Davis y por Keith Thurman, mientras que en sus últimos dos combates Santiago sufrió derrotas ante Gary Antuanne Russell y Adrien Broner.
Por lo tanto, no es precisamente un choque entre boxeadores del nivel más alto, y seguramente recibirá muchas críticas, especialmente considerándose que Barrios será claro favorito, pero por lo menos es un encuentro con cierta lógica y no un cruce entre un veterano acabado y un boxeador en plenitud.
Por lo que se refiere al otro combate de la cartelera principal, éste será más interesante, ya que se tratará de un duelo del peso pesado de diez asaltos en el que se verán las caras dos invictos con aspiraciones internacionales como el olímpico cubano Lenier Pero y el ucraniano Viktor Vykhryst (también conocido como Viktor Faust). Así, dos púgiles con cualidades, repletos de ambición y deseosos de mostrar su valía batallarán intentando llevar sus carreras a un nuevo nivel.

One month after PBC’s first card of the year took place with the Gervonta Davis vs. Héctor Luis García event, the promotional conglomerate will organize an evening that will be headlined by a WBC world championship for the vacant super featherweight belt between the Mexican Rey Vargas and the American O’Shaquie Foster. The card will take place at the Alamodome in San Antonio, United States, televised by Showtime on February 11.
In the main event, the former super bantamweight world champion, and current featherweight champion, Vargas will try to become world titleholder in a third division against Foster, who is on a nine-win streak, at the best moment of his career and full of motivation to fight in his first title bout. Undoubtedly, a very interesting clash between two boxers with different styles that will decide the successor to Shakur Stevenson as WBC titlist in the division.
Along with this matchup, PBC has now officially announced which two other bouts will be part of the televised card. Starting with the co-main event, this will be a ten-round welterweight clash between American Mario Barrios and Puerto Rican Jovanie Santiago, who will seek to return to winning ways and try to access a new important fight. It must be remembered that Barrios comes from being defeated by «Tank» Davis and by Keith Thurman, while in his last two bouts Santiago was beaten by Gary Antuanne Russell and Adrien Broner.
So it’s not exactly a matchup between boxers at the highest level, and it will surely get a lot of criticism, especially considering Barrios will be the clear favorite, but at least it’s a fight with some logic and not a clash between a washed-up veteran and a boxer in his prime.
The other bout on the main card will be more interesting, since it will be a ten-round heavyweight duel in which two undefeated boxers with international aspirations will face off. One is Cuban Olympian Lenier Pero and the other is Ukrainian Viktor Vykhryst (also known as Viktor Faust). Thus, two fighters with qualities, full of ambition and eager to prove their worth will battle trying to take their careers to a new level.
