Friday, June 3
The vacant Argentina featherweight title was captured by Nicolás Botelli 12(6KO)-7(4), who defeated by unanimous decision (96-94, 97-93 and 98-92) Alan Luques 27(10KO)-12(2)-2 in an upset. This is undoubtedly the greatest success of Botelli’s career to date, although he will now have the difficult task of showing regularity at this level in his future bouts. In the same event, super welterweight Guido Schramm 14(9KO)-1-1 achieved a predictable win with a third-round TKO over José Alberto Vargas 8(2KO)-3(2).

As for the South American lightweight champion Yanina del Carmen Lescano 11(3KO)-2, she only needed one round to beat the Colombian Yenifer Rodríguez 12 (7KO)-5(4)-2. Letting aside this result, Lescano is prepared to face high-level fights against the division’s contenders, something that was already clear with her performance against Mossely, and she will need as her next rivals combative and willful boxers that could, at least, give her some useful rounds.

In the super middleweight clash between Mexicans Héctor Zepeda 21(7KO)-4(3) and Gabriel López 10(7KO)-7(5)-1, it was the former who prevailed with a knockout in the sixth round. You can watch the official video of this fight following the link.

Friday had these other results:
-Featherweight Edwin “Pupo” Palomares 19(9KO)-4(1)-1 defeated Edgar Alor 14(12KO)-3-1 by unanimous decision (100-90, 99-91 and 98-94) and in the last third of the year will surely face a significant fight against a compatriot.
-Lightweight José Roa 12(7KO)-2(1)-1 beat Isaí Hernández 11(7KO)-4(1)-1 by split decision (78-75, 78-74 and 75-77). This is and important success for his career, but his performance showed that he is not ready for the upper part of the division in his country.

Saturday, June 4

There was also the proclamation of a new European super featherweight title holder, as the champion Faroukh Kourbanov was defeated by unanimous decision by Zelfa Barrett, who is said to be a possible opponent for Cordina in the near future. The Kourbanov-Barrett fight was preceded by a sixth-round win for super lightweight prospect Dalton Smith over Mauro Perouene. Read more following the link.

The main card of this event opened with featherweight Skye Nicolson‘s lopsided win over Gabriela Bouvier and super bantamweight Gamal Yafai‘s fourth-round TKO of Sean Cairns. Read more following the link.

In the non-televised undercard, Calum French, Kyran Jones, Joe Morgan, Ben Crocker and Ester Konecna added wins on points to their records beating, respectively, Gadatamen Taylor, Vasif Mamedov, Rustem Fatkhullin, Evgenii Vazem and Monique Bux. The video of these fights can be watched following the link.

The match between the super welterweights David Papot 26(4KO)-0-1 and Ahmed El Mousaoui 34(8KO)-4-1 ended with a controversial split decision (117-113, 116-113 and 113-115) in favor of the former. In any case, Papot scored the biggest win of his career on paper, remained undefeated and moved closer to a major international fight, in which he will likely be beaten.
There was no room for controversy in the co-feature, as bantamweight Elie Konki 12(1KO)-1(1) lost the rematch to Loic Tajan 7(5KO)-1 with a hard knockout in the second round. Tajan is now a challenger for the EU bantamweight belt.

On Saturday there were also two important female fights. In one, the WBC world super flyweight champion Lourdes “La Pequena Lulú” Juárez 34(4KO)-2(1) defeated the Argentinian Débora “Polvorita” Gómez 7(0KO)-8-2 by unanimous decision of the judges (double 98-92 and 96-94). In this way, Juárez maintained her long streak, although there are hardly any high-level boxers in it and there are several very controversial decisions.
In the other fight, in this case between WBC flyweight ranked boxers, María Salinas 25(7KO)-8(1)-5 lost by unanimous decision to Jacky Calvo 16(1KO)-7(1)-2, who obtained a crucial success to get closer to the top of the ranking and set her sights on the belt that Marlen Esparza owns.

Finally, these other results can be mentioned:
-The super lightweight Timo Schwarzkopf 21(13KO)-5 defeated Zeús de Armas 13 (3KO)-1(1)-1 in the first round to return to the winning ways, and it is likely that he will be called next as stepping stone for a boxer with aspirations.
-The former minimumweight world champion Byron Rojas 28(11KO)-4-3 returned to the ring with a clear victory by unanimous decision (triple 60-54) over Armando Torres 26(19KO)-21(9), now needing frequency of fights to enter the light flyweight rankings and try to climb towards a new world championship.
-From the clash between the minimumweights Jesús Haro 9(0KO)-1 and Erick Nogueda 8(6KO)-1 the former was who came out with his arm raised due to to a split decision, thus extracting from the bout useful experience and an approach to the WBC top 15.
-Super middleweight Pablo Corzo 11(11KO)-0 maintained his 100% knockout ratio beating Colombian Alexi Rivera 9(5KO)-3(2) by TKO in the third round, although his team should focus more on putting him in adequate tests for his development than in extending his chain of stoppage victories.
