Con un oro, una plata y dos bronces en mundiales y dos oros, dos platas y un bronce en los europeos, Elena Saveleva 8(5KO)-1 es una condecoradísima boxeadora amateur. Con todo, sus éxitos en el campo profesional han sido de momento muy limitados, logrando el martes su primer cinturón al capturar el vacante título de campeona de Rusia del peso supermosca con una decisión ante la coaspirante Sofia Abraamyan 6(2KO)-2.
La no favorita Abraamyan intentó moverse por el ring y buscar contragolpes, pero este planteamiento táctico era muy complicado que le diese resultados ante Saveleva, que avanzó con las manos bajas escogiendo el momento para conectar directos diestros y cruzados de mano adelantada. De todos modos, la superioridad de Saveleva no terminó ahí, sino que esta quedó de manifiesto de forma definitiva cuando en varias ocasiones logró contragolpear los contragolpes de su oponente.
Con su control táctico establecido, Saveleva logró estremecer en el tercer round a su contrincante, pero Abraamyan no dio por perdido el combate y aprovechó la sobreconfianza de su contrincante para finalmente llegar con algún buen corto recto. Aun así, Saveleva dañó a su contrincante con un derechazo en el quinto round y posteriormente la hostigó, de modo que pronto recuperó el poco terreno perdido.
Aunque algún seco jab la sacudió y tuvo que encajar nuevos peligrosos golpes de poder, en la segunda mitad Abraamyan mantuvo su orden táctico y continuó buscando contras, encontrando ciertos buenos cruzados aquí y allá. Pero en cuanto Saveleva pudo plantar los pies en la distancia media-corta y sacar con recorrido y potencia sus manos, ganó los asaltos y se aseguró la victoria y el cinturón, algo certificado por un knockdown en el último round a través de un certero dos-uno.
Dejando de lado que su menosprecio por las tareas defensivas puede resultarle muy desfavorable, Saveleva es una púgil agresiva y con buena pegada que parece mucho más amenazadora que numerosas retadoras mundiales que han habido en la división supermosca en tiempos recientes. Con todo, habiendo debutado como profesional con 32 años y habiendo tenido una escasa actividad en sus cinco años en el boxeo de pago, Saveleva no tiene el tiempo de su lado y necesitará un decidido apoyo promocional si quiere alcanzar el mundial en condiciones apropiadas.

With one gold, one silver and two bronze medals in world championships and two golds, two silvers and one bronze in the European championships, Elena Saveleva 8(5KO)-1 is a very decorated amateur boxer. However, her successes in the professional pugilism have been so far very limited, achieving her first belt on Tuesday by capturing the vacant Russian super flyweight title against Sofia Abraamyan 6(2KO)-2.
The underdog Abraamyan tried to move around the ring and look for counterpunches, but it was very difficult for her to have crucial results with this tactical approach against Saveleva, who advanced with her hands low choosing the moment to land straight right hands and lead hooks. In any case, Saveleva’s superiority did not end there, but it was definitively shown when she managed to counterpunch her opponent’s counterpunches on several occasions.
With her tactical control established, Saveleva shook her opponent in the third round, but Abraamyan did not give up and took advantage of her rival’s overconfidence to finally connect some good straight punches. Still, Saveleva hurt her opponent with a right hand in the fifth round and subsequently increased her pressure, so she maintained firmly her margin in the scorecards.
Although some hard jab rocked her and she had to deal with new dangerous power shots, in the second half of the fight Abraamyan kept her tactical order and continued to look for counters, landing a few good hooks sporadically. But as soon as Saveleva was able to stop her feet in the mid-close distance and throw her hands, she won the rounds, secured the victory and conquered the belt, something she certified with a knockdown in the last round through an accurate two-one combination.
Putting aside that her careless defense could work against her, Saveleva is an aggressive puncher who looks far more threatening than numerous world challengers that have been in the super flyweight division in recent times. However, having debuted as a professional at the age of 32 and having had little activity in her five years in the paid ranks, Saveleva does not have time on her side and will need determined promotional support if she wants to reach the world championships in appropriate conditions.
