En el combate estelar del evento de ProBox, el peso superwélter mexicano Ángel Ruiz derribó tres veces al veterano Luis Collazo y lo derrotó por KO en el sexto asalto. Tras el enfrentamiento, Collazo anunció su retiro como boxeador. Crónica y vídeo del combate siguiendo el link.
En el respaldo, el prospecto ruso del peso wélter Vadim Musaev acabó en el primer asalto con Martin Álvarez y el peso supergallo José Salas Reyes ofreció una muy buena actuación en su triunfo por decisión unánime sobre el olímpico ghanés Prince Dzanie. Crónica siguiendo el link.
Viernes 21 de abril
Pasando al viernes, la velada de Thompson Boxing terminó con el peso superpluma estadounidense George “El Yuyu” Acosta logrando una amplia victoria por decisión unánime sobre el colombiano César Villarraga para recuperar confianza tras dos exigentes pugnas. Crónica siguiendo el link.
Por lo demás, el viernes sólo tuvo estos otros resultados:
-El campeonato de Irlanda del peso semipesado lejos de zanjar la competencia entre Jamie Morrissey 5(1KO)-0-1 y Kevin Cronin 5(2KO)-1-1 la afianzó, puesto que este choque de revancha terminó en un empate (95-95, 96-95, 94-96). Quizás a la tercera va la vencida…
-El joven Jalen Tait 12(7KO)-0 superó satisfactoriamente su test ante Kye MacKenzie 21(17KO)-5(1) y se proclamó campeón de Australia del peso ligero con un triunfo por decisión unánime (98-92, 98-92, 97-93), victoria que le emplaza a útiles peleas para continuar con su desarrollo.
Sábado 22 de abril
A pesar de que los propagandistas están intentando hacer control de daños con todo tipo de excusas, el hecho es que Gervonta Davis demostró que el influencer Ryan García está tremendamente sobrevalorado, y que le falta experiencia, dureza e inteligencia, derribándolo, controlándolo y haciendo que se rindiese en el séptimo asalto. En el choque coestelar, el muy prometedor peso supermedio cubano David Morrell demostró estar a un nivel completamente diferente al del bronce olímpico brasileño Yamaguchi Falcao, a quien vapuleó en el primer asalto. Tras el encuentro Morrell insistió en su deseo de medirse a David Benavídez a continuación. Crónica siguiendo el link.
Por lo que se refiere al encuentro de revancha entre el plata olímpico uzbeko Bektemir Melikuziev y el veteranísimo Gabriel Rosado, como se podía prever, “King” no encontró otro golpe decisivo a la contra y fue castigado durante diez asaltos, siendo conducido a la derrota unánime y al retiro. Finalmente, la cartelera estelar se inició con una nueva victoria del jovencísimo peso medio estadounidense Elijah García sobre el mexicano Kevin Salgado, que tuvo una actuación mejor que en otras ocasiones pero que no pudo dar continuidad a sus éxitos iniciales. Crónica siguiendo el link.
Respecto al cartel de Matchroom Boxing, el campeón mundial IBF del peso superpluma Shavkat Rakhimov 17(14KO)-1-1 perdió su corona en un disputado e igualado choque ante el exmonarca Joe Cordina 16(9KO)-0, que se anotó un knockdown crucial y recuperó su cinturón con un triunfo por decisión dividida (116-111, 112-115, 113-114). Sin duda, Cordina podría tener encuentros de unificación muy interesantes ante O’Shaquie Foster (WBC), Emanuel Navarrete (WBO) y Héctor Luis García (WBA), pero seguramente su plan inmediato sea una defensa voluntaria menos exigente, quizás ante Zelfa Barrett 29(16KO)-2(1), que venció en el respaldo a Jason Sánchez por decisión unánime (119-108, 118-110, 116-111).
En cuanto a las demás peleas de acompañamiento del Rakhimov-Cordina, el campeón británico del peso ligero Gavin Gwynne 16(4KO)-2(1)-1 dejó atrás su empate ante Craig Woodruff 12(4KO)-7(2)-1 batiéndolo por KOT en el quinto asalto, el prospecto del peso crucero Jordan Thompson 15(12KO)-0 hizo todo lo que pudo para intentar disipar las dudas y derrotó por KOT en el sexto round a Luke Watkins 16(11KO)-3(2), y Sandy Ryan 6(2KO)-1 llevó su carrera a un nuevo nivel coronándose campeona mundial WBO del peso wélter con un triunfo unánime (99-91, 98-92, 97-93) sobre Marie Pier Houle 8(2KO)-1-1.
Por lo que se refiere a la velada polaca, el local Lukasz Rozanski 15(14KO)-0 capturó el cinturón “mundial” WBC del peso puente ante el croata Alen Babić 11(10KO)-1(1), que erróneamente decidió ceder la iniciativa e intentar boxear y terminó noqueado en el primer round. En circunstancias normales, ahora se podría especular sobre el reinado de Rozanski, pero siendo el titular de una “división” despoblada y con un atroz nivel medio no tiene demasiado sentido analizar la situación, y habrá que esperar a ver qué defensas afronta y quién elige el WBC como retador obligatorio antes de tratar de realizar valoraciones.
Al igual que en la cartelera de Matchroom, todos los favoritos se impusieron en el respaldo: el peso pesado Martin Bakole 19(14KO)-1(1) sólo necesitó tres rounds para ganar su rodaje ante Ihor Shevadzutskyi 10(8KO)-1(1); el exretador mundial del peso crucero Michal Cieslak 24(18KO)-2 se proclamó campeón de Europa noqueando a Dylan Bregeon 12(3KO)-3(1)-1 en el cuarto asalto; y la polaca Laura Grzyb 9(3KO)-0 capturó el cinto europeo del peso supergallo con una decisión dividida (98-92, 96-94, 93-97) ante la italiana Maria Cecchi 8(2KO)-2.
El sábado también tuvieron lugar estos otros encuentros:
-El exaspirante mundial Tramaine Williams 20(6KO)-2 fue derrotado por decisión unánime a manos de Elijah Pierce 16(14KO)-2, que llevó su cadena de triunfos a ocho y que debería lograr un puesto en el top 15 WBC del peso supergallo en una próxima actualización del ranking.
-El excampeón de Italia del peso supermedio Dragan Lepei 22(10KO)-6(3)-2 superó por decisión unánime (98-92, 97-93, 97-93) a Giovanni Carpentieri 16(4KO)-5(1)-3 y se convirtió en titular de Italia del peso semipesado.
-El peso superpluma belga Miko Khatchatryan 16(7KO)-1 no se dejó sorprender por el venezolano Luis Millán 22(16KO)-6(2) y lo derrotó por decisión unánime (99-90, 98-90, 97-91).
-El prospecto uzbeko del peso superligero Jakhongir Rasulov 5(5KO)-0 pasó con nota su prueba ante el filipino Jhun Rick “Iron Fist” Carcedo 9(9KO)-2(1) al que venció en solo dos asaltos.
-El peso superwélter italiano Alessio Mastronunzio 11(3KO)-4(1) lejos de dar continuidad a su último éxito fue derrotado por el veterano Emanuele Cavallucci 15(6KO)-7(1)-1, quien se anotó un KOT en el octavo asalto (por corte) que le valdrá para recibir algunas llamadas.
-Como se podía prever, la extop 10 libra por libra Daniela Romina “La Bonita” Bermúdez 31(11KO)-4(1)-3 fue demasiado para Daniela Bárbara Rivero 9(1KO)-5(2), la derrotó por KOT en el quinto asalto, se proclamó campeona de Argentina del peso pluma y puso las bases para pugnas más exigentes.

-The Irish light heavyweight championship, far from settling the competition between Jamie Morrissey 5(1KO)-0-1 and Kevin Cronin 5(2KO)-1-1, strengthened it, since this rematch fight ended in a draw (95 -95, 96-95, 94-96). Maybe the third time’s the charm…
-The young Jalen Tait 12(7KO)-0 successfully passed his test against Kye MacKenzie 21(17KO)-5(1), and became Australian lightweight champion, with a unanimous decision victory (98-92, 98-92 , 97-93), that will give him access to useful fights to continue his development.

In the co-main event, the very promising Cuban super middleweight David Morrell showed that he is in a completely different level than Brazilian Olympic bronze medalist Yamaguchi Falcao, whom he thrashed in the first round. Regarding the rematch between Uzbek Olympic silver medalist Bektemir Melikuziev and the very veteran Gabriel Rosado, as could be expected, «King» did not find another decisive counter and was punished for ten rounds, being led to a unanimous defeat and to retirement. Read more following the link.
Finally, the main card began with a new victory for the very young American middleweight Elijah García over Mexican Kevin Salgado, who had a better performance than on other occasions but could not give continuity to his initial successes. Read more following the link.
Regarding the Matchroom Boxing event, the IBF world super featherweight champion Shavkat Rakhimov 17(14KO)-1-1 lost his crown in a contested and even match against former champion Joe Cordina 16(9KO)-0, who scored a crucial knockdown and regained his belt with a split decision win (116-111, 112-115, 113-114). Without a doubt, Cordina could have very interesting unification matches against O’Shaquie Foster (WBC), Emanuel Navarrete (WBO) and Héctor Luis García (WBA), but surely his immediate plan is a less challenging voluntary defense, perhaps against Zelfa Barrett 29(16KO)-2(1), who defeated Jason Sánchez 16(9KO)-4 by unanimous decision (119-108, 118-110, 116-111) on the undercard.
As for the other Rakhimov-Cordina support fights, British lightweight champion Gavin Gwynne 16(4KO)-2(1)-1 won the rematch beating Craig Woodruff 12(4KO)-7(2)-1 by fifth-round TKO, cruiserweight prospect Jordan Thompson 15(12KO)-0 did everything he could to try to dispel doubts and defeated Luke Watkins 16(11KO)-3(2) by sixth-round TKO, and Sandy Ryan 6(2KO)-1 took her career to a new level by becoming WBO welterweight world champion with a unanimous decision win (99-91, 98-92, 97-93) over Marie Pier Houle 8(2KO)-1-1.
Regarding the Polish evening, the local fighter Lukasz Rozanski 15(14KO)-0 captured the WBC “world” bridgerweight belt against Croatian Alen Babić 11(10KO)-1(1), who made the mistake of giving up the initiative and trying to box and ended up knocked out in the first round. Under normal circumstances, one could now speculate about Rozanski’s reign, but being the owner of belt in a “division” with an atrocious average level, there is little point in analyzing his situation, and we will have to wait and see what defenses he faces and who the WBC chooses as mandatory challenger before trying to think too much about it.
As on the Matchroom Boxing evening, all the favorites prevailed on the undercard: heavyweight Martin Bakole 19(14KO)-1(1) needed only three rounds to win his stay-busy bout against Ihor Shevadzutskyi 10(8KO)-1( 1); former world cruiserweight challenger Michal Cieslak 24(18KO)-2 became European champion by knocking out Dylan Bregeon 12(3KO)-3(1)-1 in the fourth round; and Polish Laura Grzyb 9(3KO)-0 captured the European super bantamweight belt with a split decision win (98-92, 96-94, 93-97) against Italian Maria Cecchi 8(2KO)-2.

-Uzbek super lightweight prospect Jakhongir Rasulov 5(5KO)-0 passed his test with flying colors beating Filipino Jhun Rick “Iron Fist” Carcedo 9(9KO)-2 1) in just two rounds.
-Italian super welterweight Alessio Mastronunzio 11(3KO)-4(1) was defeated by veteran Emanuele Cavallucci 15(6KO)-7(1)-1, who scored an eight-round TKO (due to a cut).
-As could be expected, the former top 10 pound per pound female boxer Daniela Romina «La Bonita» Bermúdez 31(11KO)-4(1)-3 was too difficult for Daniela Bárbara Rivero 9(1KO)-5(2), who was defeated by fifth-round TKO. So, Bermúdez was proclaimed Argentine featherweight champion and laid the foundations for more interesting fights.
