Kiko Martínez siguió agrandando su legado con una fantástica victoria sobre Jordan Gill

El excampeón mundial Kiko “La Sensación” Martínez 44(31KO)-11(5)-2 siguió agrandando su legado como un histórico púgil para el boxeo español en la noche del sábado. Entonces Martínez batió en el cuarto asalto al británico Jordan “The Thrill” Gill 27(8KO)-2(2)-1 en un campeonato de Europa del peso pluma que era además una eliminatoria IBF.
Al comienzo, la centelleante velocidad de manos y de piernas de Gill le permitió impactar afilados jabs y fluidas combinaciones entre ágiles desplazamientos ante un Martínez que avanzó buscando imponer sus golpes de poder. “La Sensación” tenía peligro y en el segundo round dañó un tanto con un gancho zurdo a un Gill que se vio obligado a correr, pero en el resto de asalto el británico siguió imponiendo su rapidez y destreza.
Con todo, en el tercer round Gill ya no logró soportar la pegada de Martínez, que le derribó con un derechazo. Esta no fue la única caída del asalto, ya que con un uppercut diestro el español volvió a poner en el tapiz al local. Gill estaba en una situación crítica y en el cuarto episodio los golpes del poder de Martínez le siguieron castigando brutalmente, de tal modo que el británico cayó dos veces más, una por un corto pero contundente directo diestro y la otra por un excelente gancho zurdo. Así, cuando Gill se levantó con la cara preocupantemente ensangrentada, se hizo lo correcto y se detuvo el enfrentamiento.
Teóricamente, en virtud de la victoria en esta eliminatoria, Martínez tiene garantizada una pelea mundialista más en su brillante carrera, siendo el monarca IBF un Josh Warrington al que ya se ha medido dos veces. En ambos combates Martínez perdió de manera controvertida, el primero por cuestionada decisión mayoritaria y el segundo por KOT tras innumerables cabezazos. De todos modos, quizás Warrington no sea el oponente de Martínez, puesto que está por ver que el monarca pueda salir victorioso de su difícil reto ante “Venado” López.
Fisher arrolló a Musil
Antes del Gill-Martínez, el peso pesado Johnny “The Romford Bull” Fisher 7(6KO)-0 logró una abrumadora victoria en el primer asalto sobre el checo Dominik Musil 7(5KO)-5(3). El invicto usó su fuerza y potencia para, a través de una notable agresividad, vapulear con sus directos diestros y cruzados de esta misma mano a un Musil que cayó dos veces antes de que el árbitro parase el combate.

Former world champion Kiko “La Sensación” Martínez 44(31KO)-11(5)-2 continued to improve his legacy as a historic fighter for Spanish boxing on Saturday night. Martinez then beat the British Jordan “The Thrill” Gill 27(8KO)-2(2)-1 in the fourth round of an European featherweight championship that was also an IBF eliminator.
Initially, Gill’s hand and leg speed allowed him to land sharp jabs and smooth combinations between nimble moves against Martinez, who marched forward looking to land his power shots. «La Sensación» was dangerous, and in the second round he hurt Gill with a left hook. The local boxer was forced to run, but in the rest of the round he continued to impose his speed and skill.
However, in the third round Gill could no longer withstand the punch of Martinez, who dropped him with a right hand. This was not the only knockdown of the round, as with a right uppercut the visitor put the Brit back on the mat. Gill was in a critical situation and in the fourth round Martínez’s power shots continued to punish him brutally. In fact, Gill fell two more times, one by a short but forceful straight right hand and the other by an excellent left hook. Thus, when Gill got up with a worryingly bloody face, the right thing was done and the bout was stopped.
Theoretically, by virtue of the victory in this eliminator, Martínez has guaranteed one more world title fight in his career. The IBF monarch is Josh Warrington, whom he has already faced twice. In both fights, Martínez controversially lost, the first by a questionable majority decision and the second by TKO after innumerable headbutts. In any case, Warrington may not be Martínez’s opponent, since it remains to be seen if the monarch can emerge victorious from his difficult match against “Venado” López.
Fisher overwhelmed Musil
Before to the Gill-Martínez fight, heavyweight Johnny “The Romford Bull” Fisher 7(6KO)-0 scored an easy first-round victory over Czech Dominik Musil 7(5KO)-5(3). The undefeated used his strength and power to, through remarkable aggressiveness, pummel Musil with his straight rights and right hooks until the visitor fell twice and the referee had to stop the fight shortly after the second knockdown.
