Demsey McKean and Skye Nicolson achieved easy wins in mismatches

In the heavyweight division it is often more important to look like a threat than to be one, so countless times promoters “improve” the records of top 15 fighters with mismatches. This is the case of Australian Demsey McKean 22(14KO)-0, 10th WBO and 15th IBF who, as expected, defeated just in three rounds Patrick Korte 18(15KO)-2(2)-1.

Korte lunged at his opponent aggressively and lacking order before the two ended in constant clinches. The visitor was so out of control that in one hold he kept throwing punches for several seconds after the referee ordered them to stop. Despite Korte’s bad technique and his predictable charges, McKean was unable to connect his hands taking advantage of his opponent’s frontal push, insisting too much on clinches.

In any case, Korte’s excessive aggressiveness soon wore him down, so his offensives became less explosive and McKean began to land hard hooks down, some hooks up and good uppercuts. The tiredness of Korte worsened, and the boxer was showing signs of being exhausted, so in the third round he finally went down after hooks, uppercuts and an obvious push, thus ending the bout.

Skye Nicolson

Nicolson scored easy victory
The night was not much more difficult for the Olympian Skye Nicolson 5(0KO)-0, who, after dominating victories, incomprehensibly fought Krystina Jacobs 6(0KO)-4(1) and not, at least, Carly Salmon, who clearly defeated this boxer a few months ago. Anyway, in this featherweight bout Nicolson became Commonwealth champion with a lopsided unanimous decision win (100-89, 99-90, 98-91).

As in her previous four professional fights, all four against fighters not even remotely close to her level, the southpaw Nicolson moved around the ring controlling the distance and waiting for the moment to land a jab, a straight left or a check hook against Jacobs, who did what she could and sporadically connected an isolated left hook, but in general was neutralized by the tactical control of her opponent. Thus, the duel consisted of ten monotonous and one-sided rounds.

The only remarkable variation was a knockdown in the fourth round scored by Nicolson through a counter right hook, but while she could have obtained the stoppage if she had insisted on her attacks, the unbeaten preferred to control the actions without taking risks.
