Emparejamientos de octavos de final del WBC Grand Prix: peso pesado, medio, superligero y pluma

Este viernes y sábado se producirá en el Global Theater de Boulevard City en Riyadh, Arabia Saudí, la segunda fase del Grand Prix de Boxeo WBC, interesante torneo que pretende buscar nuevos nombres relevantes del boxeo de entre púgiles que, en su mayoría, son jóvenes, han tenido sólidas, muy buenas o incluso excelentes carreras amateur y que todavía no han alcanzado peleas en el nivel alto en el boxeo profesional. Los octavos de final que se desarrollarán este fin de semana fueron precedidos por unos dieciseisavos de final en abril en los que se sostuvieron 64 peleas entre las cuatro divisiones que forman parte del torneo: peso pluma, peso superligero, peso medio y peso pesado.
Después de estos 64 combates, quedaron en el torneo 32 boxeadores que, repartidos en 8 cruces por categoría de peso, componen los combates a seis asaltos que a continuación resumiremos. Comencemos.
Viernes 20. Peso medio
-Primera Rama. Los ucranianos Maksym Molodan 8(5KO)-0 y Dmytro Rybalko 4(2KO)-0-1 se verán las caras en un choque cuyo vencedor se medirá al ganador del enfrentamiento entre el irlandés Paul Ryan 8(3KO)-1(1) y el canadiense Derek Pomerleau 12(9KO)-0.
-Segunda Rama. Del combate entre el francés Ephrem Bariko 11(6KO)-0 y el jordano Mohammad Issa 10(9KO)-0 saldrá el oponente del ganador del choque entre el finés Hajji Muhis 7(1KO)-0-2 y el colombiano Carlos Sinisterra 11(9KO)-1.
Tercera Rama. El australiano Dylan Biggs 14(9KO)-1(1), que sólo ha perdido contra Nikita Tszyu, se medirá al francés Ciril Johnson Suffo 10(3KO)-0, siendo el oponente del ganador el que salga del choque entre el ucraniano Petro Frolov 11(4KO)-1 y el pegador mexicano Saulo Morales Saldivar 15(14KO)-1(1)-1.
Cuarta Rama. De un duelo de mexicanos entre Emiliano Aguillón 12(7KO)-0-1 y José Ramón Montes 12(5KO)-0 saldrá el contrincante del vencedor del cruce entre el venezolano Isaac Torres 15(15KO)-1 y el francés Lancelot Proton de la Chapelle 16(4KO)-1(1)-1.
Viernes 20. Peso superligero
Primera Rama. El filipino Jerald Into 12(9KO)-0 será el oponente del kazajo Sanatali Toltayev 3(2KO)-0, siendo sus rivales potenciales en cuartos de final el ucraniano Danylo Lozan 13(8KO)-0 y el canadiense Eric Basran 8(3KO)-0.
Segunda Rama. Al igual que en el peso medio, habrá un choque entre mexicanos, siendo estos el jovencísimo Orlando Barajas 8(2KO)-0 y Misael Cabrera 16(11KO)-2-1. El vencedor se verá las caras con el ganador del cruce entre el prometedor uzbeko Mujibillo Tursunov 6(2KO)-0 y el también invicto argentino Alan Ezequiel Dutra 15(9KO)-0.
Tercera Rama. El pegador argentino Alan David Crenz 15(14KO)-1 combatirá contra otro púgil contundente como el colombiano Carlos Utria 10(10KO)-0. Es de esperar que el oponente del ganador sea el canadiense Spencer Wilcox 11(5KO)-0, prospecto que se medirá al polaco Bartlomiej Przybyla 9(3KO)-1, que de forma excepcional accede a octavos de final tras haber padecido una derrota en dieciseisavos.
Cuarta Rama. Los restantes combates en esta división serán el que sostendrán el italiano Fiorenzo Priolo 10(5KO)-0 y el turco Efe Derin Konuk 13(7KO)-1-1 y el que enfrentará al sudafricano Ntethelelo Nkosi 8(5KO)-2(1) y al chino Ju Wu 15(3KO)-1-2.
Sábado 21. Peso pesado
Primera Rama. Curiosamente, el torneo del peso pesado contará con dos púgiles bosnios, la misma cantidad que de estadounidenses y ucranianos. Uno de ellos será Alija Mesić 2(2KO)-0, que se verá las caras con el sudafricano Keaton Gomes 11(9KO)-3(1). Al vencedor le esperará el ganador del cruce entre el argentino Jonathan Exequiel Vergara 8(4KO)-2(2) y el estadounidense Devon Young 8(7KO)-0, que será muy claro favorito para vencer esta pugna de octavos de final.
Segunda Rama. El otro boxeador bosnio, Ahmed Krnjić 4(3KO)-0, se medirá al italiano Davide Brito 7(3KO)-1(1). Quien gane podría tener un combate de cuartos de final realmente difícil, ya que posiblemente se mida al oro olímpico y bronce mundial amateur Lazizbek Mullojonov 6(6KO)-0, que tiene como rival en octavos de final al marroquí Youness Baalla 2(2KO)-0-1.
Tercera Rama. El polaco Piotr Lacz 13(9KO)-0 no tendrá un contrincante sencillo en el el croata Marko Milun 1(1KO)-0, mientras que los otros dos contendientes de este segmento del torneo serán el congoleño Reagan Apanu 3(1KO)-0 y el argentino Kevin Cristopher Ramírez 9(4KO)-0-1.
Cuarta Rama. En una pelea entre ucranianos, el destacado kickboxer y luchador de muay thai, Tsotne Rogava 11(8KO)-0 se verá las caras con Vitaliy Stalchenko 10(6KO)-0, esperándole al ganador quien salga con el brazo en alto del encuentro entre el estadounidense Dante Stone 18(12KO)-1 y el argentino Emiliano Ezequiel Mendoza 5(1KO)-0-1.
Sábado 21. Peso pluma
Primera Rama. El kazajo Alexander Kovrigin 8(6KO)-1, que perdió a los puntos en dieciseisavos, sustituirá a Ángel Sauceda en el enfrentamiento contra el nigeriano Yusuf Adisa Adeniji 15(10KO)-0. Uno de los grandes favoritos del peso pluma estará en esta rama, siendo éste el oro nacional estadounidense y campeón de los Golden Gloves Tyshawn Denson 5(2KO)-0, que se medirá al francés Yoni Valverde Jr. 14(3KO)-0.
Segunda Rama. Por un lado, el ghanés Holy Dorgbetor 14(8KO)-0-1 peleará contra el albano Muhamet Qamili 15(7KO)-0, y por el otro, el estadounidense Troy Nash 4(1KO)-0 combatirá contra el kazajo Zholdas Zhengissov 9(4KO)-0.
Tercera Rama. De un interesante encuentro entre el estadounidense Iman Lee 13(8KO)-0 y el mexicano Héctor Munguía 15(9KO)-0-1 saldrá el oponente del duelo entre africanos que sostendrán el tanzano Juma Choki 10(3KO)-0-1 y el sudafricano Bekizizwe Maitse 7(3KO)-1.
Cuarta Rama. Por último, dos muy jóvenes púgiles como el colombiano Jhon Bolaño 9(8KO)-0 y el uzbeko Ayubkhon Bakhtiyorov 7(5KO)-0 son los potenciales contrincantes del mexicano Brandon Mejía 9(9KO)-0 y el británico Gully Powar 12(1KO)-0.
WBC Grand Prix round of 16 matches: heavyweight, middleweight, super lightweight and featherweight

The second phase of the WBC Boxing Grand Prix will take place this Friday and Saturday at the Global Theater at Boulevard City in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This interesting tournament aims to find new boxing relevant names from among fighters who, for the most part, are young, have had solid, very good, or even excellent amateur careers and who have yet to reach top level bouts in professional boxing. This weekend’s Round of 16 matches was preceded by a Round of 32 in April, in which 64 fights were held across the four divisions included in the tournament: featherweight, super lightweight, middleweight, and heavyweight.
After these 64 bouts, 32 boxers remained in the tournament who, divided into eight matches in each weight class, form the six-round bouts which will be summarized below. Let’s begin.
Friday 20th. Middleweight
-First Bracket. Ukrainians Maksym Molodan 8(5KO)-0 and Dmytro Rybalko 4(2KO)-0-1 will face off in a clash whose winner will be the opponent of Irishman Paul Ryan 8(3KO)-1(1) or Canadian Derek Pomerleau 12(9KO)-0.
-Second Bracket. The fight between Frenchman Ephrem Bariko 11(6KO)-0 and Jordanian Mohammad Issa 10(9KO)-0 will determine the opponent for the winner of the clash between Finnish Hajji Muhis 7(1KO)-0-2 and Colombian Carlos Sinisterra 11(9KO)-1.
Third Bracket. Australian Dylan Biggs 14(9KO)-1(1), who has only lost to Nikita Tszyu, will face Frenchman Ciril Johnson Suffo 10(3KO)-0. The winner’s opponent will be the boxer who emerges victorious from the clash between Ukrainian Petro Frolov 11(4KO)-1 and Mexican puncher Saulo Morales Saldivar 15(14KO)-1(1)-1.
Fourth Bracket. The winner of the matchup between Venezuelan Isaac Torres 15(15KO)-1 and Frenchman Lancelot Proton de la Chapelle 16(4KO)-1(1)-1 will face off the victor of a duel of Mexicans between Emiliano Aguillón 12(7KO)-0-1 and José Ramón Montes 12(5KO)-0.
Friday, the 20th. Super Lightweight
First Bracket. Filipino Jerald Into 12(9KO)-0 will square off against Kazakh Sanatali Toltayev 3(2KO)-0. His potential quarterfinal opponents are Ukrainian Danylo Lozan 13(8KO)-0 and Canadian Eric Basran 8(3KO)-0.
Second Bracket. As in the middleweight division, there will be a clash between Mexicans, in this case between the very young Orlando Barajas 8(2KO)-0 and Misael Cabrera 16(11KO)-2-1. The winner will face whoever comes out on top of the matchup between the promising Uzbek Mujibillo Tursunov 6(2KO)-0 and the also undefeated Argentinian Alan Ezequiel Dutra 15(9KO)-0.
Third Bracket. Argentinian puncher Alan David Crenz 15(14KO)-1 will fight another hard-hitting fighter as Colombian Carlos Utria 10(10KO)-0. The winner’s opponent is expected to be Canadian Spencer Wilcox 11(5KO)-0, a prospect who will face Polish Bartlomiej Przybyla 9(3KO)-1, who exceptionally advanced to the round of 16 after suffering a defeat in the round of 32.
Fourth Bracket. The remaining bouts in this division will be between Italian Fiorenzo Priolo 10(5KOs)-0 and Turkish Efe Derin Konuk 13(7KOs)-1-1, and between South African Ntethelelo Nkosi 8(5KO)-2(1) and Chinese Ju Wu 15(3KO)-1-2.
Saturday, the 21st. Heavyweight
First Bracket. Curiously, the heavyweight tournament will feature two Bosnian fighters, the same amount as Americans and Ukrainians. One of them will be Alija Mesić 2(2KO)-0, who will face South African Keaton Gomes 11(9KO)-3(1). The winner will face the victor of the matchup between Argentinian Jonathan Exequiel Vergara 8(4KO)-2(2) and American Devon Young 8(7KO)-0, who will be clear favorite to win this bout.
Second Bracket. The other Bosnian boxer, Ahmed Krnjić 4(3KO)-0, will face Italian Davide Brito 7(3KO)-1(1). Whoever wins could have a truly difficult quarterfinal fight, as he will likely face Olympic gold medalist and world bronze medalist Lazizbek Mullojonov 6(6KO)-0, who faces Moroccan Youness Baalla 2(2KO)-0-1.
Third Bracket. Polish Piotr Lacz 13(9KO)-0 won’t have an easy opponent in Croatian Marko Milun 1(1KO)-0. The other two contenders in this bracket of the tournament will be Congolese Reagan Apanu 3(1KO)-0 and Argentinian Kevin Cristopher Ramírez 9(4KO)-0-1.
Fourth Bracket. In a fight between Ukrainians, the outstanding kickboxer and Muay Thai fighter Tsotne Rogava 11(8KO)-0 will face Vitaliy Stalchenko 10(6KO)-0. The winner will face whoever emerges with his arm raised from the bout between American Dante Stone 18(12KO)-1 and Argentinian Emiliano Ezequiel Mendoza 5(1KO)-0-1.
Saturday 21st. Featherweight
First Bracket. Kazakh Alexander Kovrigin 8(6KO)-1, who lost on points in the round of 32, will replace Ángel Sauceda in the matchup against Nigerian Yusuf Adisa Adeniji 15(10KO)-0. One of the big favorites in the featherweight division will be in this bracket: American national gold medalist and Golden Gloves champion Tyshawn Denson 5(2KO)-0, who will face Frenchman Yoni Valverde Jr. 14(3KO)-0.
Second Bracket. On the one hand, Ghanaian Holy Dorgbetor 14(8KO)-0-1 will fight Albanian Muhamet Qamili 15(7KO)-0, and on the other, American Troy Nash 4(1KO)-0 will fight Kazakh Zholdas Zhengissov 9(4KO)-0.
Third Bracket. An interesting bout between American Iman Lee 13(8KO)-0 and Mexican Héctor Munguía 15(9KO)-0-1 will determine the opponent of the winner of the duel between Tanzanian Juma Choki 10(3KO)-0-1 and South African Bekizizwe Maitse 7(3KO)-1.
Fourth Bracket. Finally, two very young fighters, Colombian Jhon Bolaño 9(8KO)-0 and Uzbek Ayubkhon Bakhtiyorov 7(5KO)-0, are potential opponents for Mexican Brandon Mejia 9(9KO)-0 and British Gully Powar 12(1KO)-0.
