Si se hubiese enfrentado el sábado a su rival original Wilfredo Méndez, sin duda el prometedor peso mínimo puertorriqueño-estadounidense Óscar «El Pupilo» Collazo 6(4KO)-0 hubiese sido favorito para ganar. Así, midiéndose finalmente a un sustituto que no debería haber estado ni siquiera clasificado (menos aún 3º) como el mexicano Yudel Reyes 15(5KO)-2(1), Collazo ganó esta eliminatoria WBO con un espectacular knockout en el quinto asalto.
El zurdo Collazo persiguió a su adversario alcanzándole con directos de izquierda y cruzados diestros sin descuidar su defensa, dando pasos atrás, moviendo la cintura y bloqueando. Reyes se centró en desplazarse y jabear, lanzando eventualmente algún directo o gancho abajo intentando contragolpear, pero las manos más significativas fueron de lejos las del invicto Collazo, que tenia más precisión, rapidez y astucia. El mexicano intentó, pasados unos rounds, mantenerse más en el centro del ring y moverse menos, pero esto sólo facilitó las cosas a Collazo, que lidió con sus golpes y lo tuvo más fácil aún para conectar los suyos.
Por ello, lo único que sacó Reyes de su intento de contraofensiva fue una hemorragia nasal y terminar más desgastado, cayendo al tapiz en el quinto round por directos de izquierda y ganchos diestros enlazados. En la reanudación Reyes trató de resistir con valentía, e incluso atacó, pero Collazo lo encerró en las cuerdas y le castigó con explosivos hooks hasta que una serie cruzado zurdo-cruzado diestro-directo lo dejó tendido aparatosamente en el tapiz y puso fin al combate.
Ahora Collazo accederá a un combate contra el campeón mundial WBO Melvin Jersualem, enfrentamiento interesantísimo en el que el buen equilibrio técnica-potencia del aspirante chocará con la solidez, la fortaleza y la experiencia del monarca.
