En otro tiempo, el peso superpluma ruso Mark Urvanov 22(10KO)-3-1 se habría enfrascado en una igualada y desordenada pelea de intercambios ante el nicaragüense René “Gemelo” Alvarado 32(21KO)-13(1), ofreciendo tanta emoción como preocupación a sus fans. Sin embargo, Urvanov está en una nueva fase técnica en su boxeo y el sábado, en el combate estelar de la velada de RCC Boxing, se hizo con una gran victoria por decisión unánime ante el combativo Alvarado.
Para quien haya visto a Urvanov desde el principio de su carrera, su versión actual sin duda puede resultar sorprendente por cuánto ha evolucionado. Los intentos de esquiva que antes fallaba y los pretendidos contragolpes que sólo golpeaban al aire, ahora sí los ejecuta correctamente. Así, ante el avance del aguerrido Alvarado, Urvanov pudo eludir manos con destreza de manera dinámica y estática y contestó con precisos ganchos zurdos que una vez tras otra alcanzaron al nicaragüense.
Desde la esquina del visitante se gritó más que desde las butacas de los asistentes, lo que, sumado a un corte en el lateral de la cabeza de Urvanov, pudo condicionar la percepción de la pelea de algunos. Pero por claridad de golpeo y por número de puños conectados, así como por su defensa, el ruso se estaba llevando los asaltos pese a los encomiables esfuerzos del “Gemelo”.
Como siempre, a Alvarado no le faltó ni una pizca de tesón, intentando presionar y descargar hooks sobre su oponente, llegando con algún buen hook al torso antes de los agarres de su oponente. Con todo, el trabajo de Urvanov en tareas ofensivas y defensivas fue muy consistente y sus innumerables esquivas y contragolpes de mano adelantada se mantuvieron eficaces durante la mayor parte de la pelea. Además, en los momentos en que podía tener un bajón en su rendimiento su jab fue muy sólido. De modo que Urvanov fue justo merecedor del triunfo.
En estos momentos hablar del futuro sobre cualquier boxeador ruso es algo bastante difícil. En el caso de Urvanov, a pesar del robo que padeció ante Ángel Rodríguez, estaba bien ranqueado en la WBA antes de que el organismo decidiese discriminar a los púgiles rusos por su nacionalidad. Así que, sin estar posicionado ya en esa u otra lista por el veto de los organismos mundiales, Urvanov deberá esperar a que la situación política internacional mejore antes de poder aspirar a una pelea titular y, mientras tanto, no le quedará otra que intentar lograr las victorias más significativas posibles para evitar estancarse.

In the past, Russian super featherweight Mark Urvanov 22(10KO)-3-1 would have engaged in an even and messy battle of exchanges against the Nicaraguan René “Gemelo” Alvarado 32(21KO)-13(1), offering so much emotion as a concern to his fans. However, Urvanov is in a new technical phase in his boxing and on Saturday, in the main event of the RCC Boxing evening, he scored a very good unanimous decision victory over the combative Alvarado.
For anyone who has watched Urvanov since the beginning of his career, watch his current version can certainly be surprising considering how much he has evolved. The dodge attempts that he failed in the past and the counterattacks that only hit the air, now are performed more than correctly. Thus, in response to the advance of the aggressive Alvarado, Urvanov was able to deftly avoid hands while moving or remaining static and he answered with precise left hooks that time after time hit the Nicaraguan.
There was more shouting from the visitor’s corner than from the crowd, and a cut on the side of Urvanov’s head could have conditioned the perception of the fight by some. But the fact was that due to his clean punches and his number of connected shots, as well as his great defense, the Russian was winning the rounds despite the commendable efforts made by «Gemelo».
As always, Alvarado did not lack determination, and he tried to pressure and land power punches, connecting some good hooks to the body before his opponent clinched. However, Urvanov’s offensive and defensive work was very consistent and his countless dodges and counter lead hooks remained effective for most of the fight. Also, at the moments when he could have a drop in performance his jab was very solid. So Urvanov was clearly deserving of the win.
Right now, talking about the future of any Russian boxer is quite difficult. In the case of Urvanov, despite the robbery he suffered against Ángel Rodríguez, he was well ranked in the WBA ranking before the sanctioning body decided to discriminate the Russian fighters due to their nationality. So, without a position in that or any other list due to the ban of world organizations, Urvanov will have to wait for the international political situation to improve before he can aspire to a title fight and, in the meantime, he will have no choice but to try to achieve the most significant victories possible to avoid becoming stalled.
