Richardson Hitchins ficha por Matchroom Boxing y respaldará velada de DAZN peleando contra Yomar Álamo

La compañía Matchroom Boxing no ha tenido éxito en su intento de fichar a los mayores nombres del pugilismo estadounidense actual, casi todos ellos alineados con PBC, Top Rank y Golden Boy Promotions. Así que la promotora dirigida por Eddie Hearn está optando por un planteamiento diferente en su expansión en el mercado estadounidense: fichar prometedores púgiles que a largo plazo puedan ser nombres destacados.
El último de ellos ha sido el peso superligero, y olímpico en 2016, Richardson Hitchins, joven púgil que pese a sólo contar con 14 peleas ha alcanzado cuatro veces el décimo round y se ha anotado algunas victorias relevantes, como la obtenida ante el excampeón Argenis Méndez. Su siguiente pugna será bastante interesante, puesto que, respaldando al combate Montana Love vs. Steve Spark el 12 de noviembre en el Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse de Cleveland, Estados Unidos, se enfrentará al puertorriqueño Yomar Álamo, que llega de perder por la mínima ante el número 2 WBO Liam Paro, a quien derribó en una ocasión.
La cartelera principal del Love-Spark se completará con dos buenos tests para invictos, ya que el peso pluma estadounidense Raymond Ford peleará contra el namibio Sakaria Lukas, que llega de ofrecer una meritoria actuación en Estados Unidos, y el peso superpluma puertorriqueño Christian Tapia se verá las caras con el experimentado estadounidense Thomas Mattice.
Tras su fichaje por Matchroom, Hitchins señaló:
“No podría estar más emocionado por esta oportunidad para unirme a la escuadra de Matchroom. Creo que soy el mejor peso superligero del mundo, y Eddie me va a dar la oportunidad para demostrarlo. Hay grandes peleas y grandes noches por delante en mi carrera, y este es mi momento para brillar. Planeo poner en alerta a la división de las 140 libras inmediatamente. Quiero enfrentarme a todos. Voy a por los cinturones”.
Respecto a su próximo combate, Hitchins dijo:
“El 12 de noviembre es mi momento para brillar. Eddie me prometió grandes combates y grandes oportunidades y, más importante, actividad. Este es el comienzo de todo eso, el comienzo de un nuevo viaje en mi carrera, y no podría estar más emocionado. Álamo es un oponente muy duro, y sé que vendrá a ganar, pero simplemente es un obstáculo para lograr mis metas de campeonato. Como he dicho antes, creo que soy el mejor peso superligero del mundo, y él lo va a descubrir tan pronto como suene la campana. Pienso en acaparar toda la atención el 12 de noviembre. Os lo prometo, no queréis perdéroslo”.
Por su parte, Álamo también confía en ofrecer un buen espectáculo:
“Es un buen combate. Estoy deseando volver de nuevo a los rankings y conseguir una mejor oportunidad. Será la primer vez que peleo en Cleveland y estoy feliz de combatir en una ciudad en la que recibo mucho cariño y apoyo. Estoy entrenando al máximo para dar el 100% y ganar impresionantemente”.
Eddie Hearn tiene grandes perspectivas respecto al nuevo miembro de su escuadra Hitchins:
“Estoy entusiasmado por dar la bienvenida al equipo a Richardson. No hay duda en mi mente de que Richardson puede convertirse en campeón mundial en las 140 libras y más allá, pero el viaje comienza pronto con una primera pelea bajo el paraguas de Matchroom. Quiero mantener a Richardson activo, hacer que suba en los rankings y pronto estará llamando a la puerta de estos cinturones; y puede atravesar la puerta y convertirse en estrella”.

The company Matchroom Boxing has been unsuccessful in its attempt to sign the biggest names in American boxing, almost all of them aligned with PBC, Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions. So the company is taking a different approach in its expansion in the US market: signing up-and-coming fighters who could be big names in the long run.
The last of them has been the super lightweight, Olympian in 2016, Richardson Hitchins, a young boxer who despite only having 14 fights has reached the tenth round four times and has scored some relevant victories, such as the one obtained against former champion Argenis Méndez. His next fight will be quite interesting, since, supporting the fight Montana Love vs. Steve Spark on November 12 at the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland, United States, will face Puerto Rican Yomar Álamo, who comes from losing by narrow margin against number 2 WBO Liam Paro, whom he knocked down once.
The main card of the Love-Spark event will be completed with good tests for two undefeated, since the American featherweight Raymond Ford will fight against the Namibian Sakaria Lukas, who comes from offering a meritorious performance in the United States, and the Puerto Rican super featherweight Christian Tapia will clash against the experienced American Thomas Mattice.
After his signing with Matchroom, Hitchins said:
“I couldn’t be more excited about this opportunity to join the Matchroom stable. I believe that I am the best 140 pounder in the world, and Eddie is going to give me the opportunity to prove that. There are big fights and big nights ahead for me in my career, and this is my time to shine. I plan on putting the 140lbs division on notice immediately. I want all the smoke. I’m coming for the belts.”
Regarding his next fight, Hitchins stated:
“November 12, my time to shine. Eddie promised me big fights, big opportunities, and most importantly, activity. This is the beginning of all that, the beginning of this new journey in my career and I couldn’t be more excited. Alamo is a very tough opponent, and I know he’s coming to win, but he’s simply a roadblock towards achieving my championship goals. As I’ve said before, I believe I’m the best 140 pounder in the world, and he’s going to find that out as soon as the bell rings. I plan on stealing the show November 12. I promise you; you don’t want to miss it.”
For its part, Álamo pretends to offer a great show:
“It’s a good fight. I’m looking to jump back in the rankings and get a better shot. It will be my first time fighting in Cleveland and I am happy to be fighting in a city where I have a lot of love and support. I’m training at my best to give 100 per cent and to win in style.”
Eddie Hearn has great prospects for the newest member of his squad:
“I’m delighted to welcome Richardson to the team. There is no doubt in my mind that Richardson can become a World champion at 140lbs and beyond that, but the journey starts soon with a first fight under the Matchroom banner. I want to keep Richardson busy, get him climbing the rankings and he’ll soon be knocking on the door for those belts – and he can crash through the door and become a star.”
