Desde que en febrero se ordenó por primera vez el enfrentamiento obligatorio entre Juan Francisco “El Gallo” Estrada 42(28KO)-3 y su retador oficial Joshua Franco, ha habido tiempo más que de sobra para que el monarca mexicano encarase este combate. Sin embargo, unas negociaciones que la WBA dejó que se alargasen demasiado y una victoria en subasta de Golden Boy Promotions, compañía que representa a Franco, fueron sucedidas por la decisión de Estrada de abandonar su cetro mundial WBA del peso supermosca.
Entonces se dijo que el motivo detrás de esta decisión era que, como Estrada quería pelear a continuación contra “Chocolatito” y éste supone un reto muy superior al que representa Franco, era lógico que renunciase al combate de menos calibre para encarar inmediatamente un choque entre los más esperados de las divisiones más ligeras. Con todo, esto ha terminado siendo falso, puesto que ahora se dice que el choque contra Chocolatito no se producirá en septiembre u octubre, sino que quizás tendrá lugar hacia diciembre o más tarde, y no antes de que Estrada encare una pelea ante un oponente de menor dificultad que Franco.
Y es que se ha confirmado que el día 3 de septiembre, en el Centro de Usos Múltiples de Hermosillo, México, emitido por DAZN, Tv Azteca y ESPN Knockout, Estrada se enfrentará a su compatriota Argi Cortés 23(10KO)-2-2. Este no es un mal boxeador, sino que está enrachado, es joven, tiene motivación y cuenta con algunas victorias destacables, entre ellas la obtenida ante Israel “Jiga” González. No obstante, usar este enfrentamiento como una excusa para no encarar el duelo ante Franco no tiene sentido, ya que este último es un boxeador de mayor calibre, contra el que habría habido un título mundial en juego y al que habría podido medirse perfectamente en la ventana de tiempo entre mayo y julio.

However, negotiations that the WBA let drag on too long and a purse bid victory for Golden Boy Promotions, the company that represents Franco, were followed by Estrada’s decision to relinquish his WBA world super flyweight title.
Then it was said that the reason behind this decision was that, since Estrada wanted to fight «Chocolatito» next and this is a much bigger challenge than the one Franco represents, it was logical that he gave up the lower-level bout to immediately face a clash between the most anticipated of the lighter divisions. Nevertheless, this has ended up being false, since it is now said that the fight against Chocolatito will not take place in September or October, but that it will perhaps happen towards December or even later, and not before Estrada faces an opponent less difficult than Franco.
It has been confirmed that on September 3, at the Centro de Usos Múltiples in Hermosillo, Mexico, broadcast by DAZN, Tv Azteca and ESPN Knockout, Estrada will face his compatriot Argi Cortés 23(10KO)-2-2. Cortés is not a bad boxer, since he is on a streak, is young, motivated and has some remarkable victories, among them the one obtained against Israel “Jiga” González. However, using this match as an excuse for not facing the duel against Franco makes no sense, since the latter is a boxer of greater level, against whom there would have been a world title at stake and against whom Estrada could have perfectly fought in the window of time between May and July.
