Como tantas otras veces ha sucedido en los últimos dos años, la cartelera originalmente planeada para el evento de Matchroom Boxing y OPI de este viernes en Italia era superior a la que se materializará finalmente, puesto que una vez más se ha visto afectada por varios cambios. En cualquier caso, el Palazzo Dello Sport de Verbania, Italia, acogerá una velada emitida por DAZN que contará con la participación de varios interesantes prospectos locales, si bien en pugnas en las que parten como muy claros favoritos.
Combate estelar
Sería posible afirmar que el peso supermedio Ivan Zucco 15(13KO)-0 es el boxeador de su país con mejor rendimiento de la actualidad, no sólo en su división sino en un sentido libra por libra italiano. Y es que se está mostrando intratable con su eficaz agresividad y su eficiente uso de los golpes de poder. No obstante, como pasa con todos los prospectos, no se podrá estar seguro de hasta dónde llega su nivel real hasta que no le veamos en un test significativo.
Por el momento, Zucco encarará este viernes una pelea ante el serbio Marko Nikolić 28(12KO)-1(1), rival con aspiraciones, que tuvo una buena racha y que quizás sea sobre el papel su oponente más exigente hasta la fecha pero ante el que debería poder imponerse con solvencia. Al margen de su derrota por KOT ante la piedra de toque Gorokhov y de sus problemas ante rivales capaces pero no extraordinarios, Nikolić parece un púgil con menor explosividad y recursos que el motivado Zucco. Por lo tanto, si el zurdo local ofrece una buena versión de sí mismo, muestra determinación en la distancia media y aprovecha con astucia sus éxitos es de esperar que pueda vencer y capture un título menor WBC que le dará el acceso al largo ranking de este organismo.
Otra gran promesa italiana
Quizás quien podría cuestionar más la posición de Zucco en un eventual ranking libra por libra italiano, además de Michael Magnesi, podría ser el peso superwélter Mirko “Terminator” Natalizi 11(7KO)-0, que está mostrando una gran soltura sobre el cuadrilátero pese a tener poco más de una decena de peleas. Esto, evidentemente, no pasa desapercibido para OPI y Matchroom, que han decidido situarle ya en una prueba a diez rounds ante su mayor oponente hasta la fecha, el alemán Rico Mueller 28(19KO)-4(2)-1.
Este bravo púgil ha padecido sus tres derrotas más recientes ante el posteriormente campeón mundial Jeff Horn, contra el número 1 IBF Jeremías Ponce y contra el olímpico Anthony Fowler, por lo que es evidente que al ser escogido como rival de Natalizi se quiere medir el grado de desarrollo de este prospecto comparándole con buenos púgiles. Dicho esto, y aunque Mueller seguramente ofrecerá lo que tenga y tratará de dar la cara, Natalizi es un púgil hábil, con muchos recursos tácticos y que es preciso en larga, así que, más allá de que su sobreconfianza y sus descuidos defensivos puedan pasarle factura, debería poder controlar el encuentro y lograr una sólida victoria.
Grandelli, Nmomah y Forte
En el evento se producirán otros tres combates mencionables. El que está pactado a un mayor número de episodios es el que sostendrán en el peso pluma el local Francesco Grandelli 15(3KO)-1-2 y el británico Kane Baker 17(1KO)-8(3)-1. Además de lucir técnicamente en peleas menores, Grandelli demostró saber estar a la altura de las circunstancias en un gran reto cuando empató su complicado combate ante el invicto Mauro Forte el pasado noviembre. Por ello, aunque se mide a un Baker muy voluntarioso y que ha logrado un par de triunfos contra pronóstico, Grandelli es favorito para utilizar su agilidad y su destreza y vencer el enfrentamiento.
En la velada también sobresale la participación de dos imbatidos como el peso superwélter Samuel Nmomah 16(5KO)-0 y el peso pluma Mauro Forte 16(6KO)-0-2. El primero peleará contra el fogueado y correoso Fouad El Massoudi 17(2KO)-17(2)-1, que pese a los números de su récord es un boxeador competente y que suele garantizar trabajo, mientras que Forte se medirá al colombiano Joshua Ocampo 8(6KO)-3(1)-4, quien teóricamente tiene un nivel muy inferior al suyo.
DAZN emitirá esta velada desde las 20:00 en hora italiana y española, las 19:00 en Reino Unido y las 14:00 ET/11:00 PT.

Like so many other times in the last two years, the original card planed for this Friday’s Matchroom Boxing and OPI event in Italy was better than the one that will finally materialize, since once again it has been affected by several changes. In any case, the Palazzo Dello Sport in Verbania, Italy, will be the venue for an evening broadcast by DAZN that will feature several interesting local prospects, although in bouts in which they are very clear favorites.
Main Event
It would be possible to affirm that super middleweight Ivan Zucco 15(13KO)-0 is the Italian boxer that currently is performing at a greater level, not only in his division but in an Italian pound-for-pound sense. That is because he is overwhelming his opposition with his effective aggressiveness and his efficient use of the power punches. However, as happens with all the prospects, we won’t be sure about how good he truly is until we see him in an important test.
For now, Zucco will have a fight against Serbian Marko Nikolić 28(12KO)-1(1), a rival with aspirations, who had a good run and who may be on paper his most demanding opponent to date but against whom he should win clearly. Letting aside his TKO loss to Gorokhov and his struggles against capable but not great opponents, Nikolić seems less explosive and not as resourceful as the motivated Zucco. Therefore, if the local southpaw offers a good version of himself, shows determination in the middle distance and cleverly takes advantage of his successes, he should be able to achieve victory and capture a minor WBC belt that will give him access to the long ranking of this organization.
Another great Italian prospect
Besides Michael Magnesi, perhaps the boxer who could question Zucco’s top position in an eventual Italian pound-for-pound ranking could be super welterweight Mirko “Terminator” Natalizi 11(7KO)-0, who is showing aplomb despite having only eleven fights. This obviously does not go unnoticed by OPI and Matchroom, who have decided to put him in a ten round test against his biggest opponent to date, the German Rico Mueller 28(19KO)-4(2)-1.
This brave boxer has suffered his three most recent defeats against the world champion Jeff Horn, against the IBF number 1 Jeremías Ponce and against the Olympian Anthony Fowler, so it is evident that the objective of the bout is to measure the degree of development of Natalizi comparing him with good fighters. That said, and although Mueller will surely offer a big effort, Natalizi is a skilled fighter, with many tactical resources and who is precise at long range, so, beyond the possibility of a mistake due to overconfidence or defensive carelessness, he should be able to control the match and obtain a solid win.
Grandelli, Nmomah and Forte
Three other mentionable matches will take place at the event. The one agreed to more rounds will be the featherweight clash between the local Francesco Grandelli 15(3KO)-1-2 and the British Kane Baker 17(1KO)-8(3)-1. In addition to showing his technical quality in minor fights, Grandelli raised to the occasion in a big challenge when he drew in his tough fight against the undefeated Mauro Forte last November. For this reason, although he fights against a very willful boxer as Baker, who has achieved a couple of upset wins, Grandelli is the favorite to use his agility and skill and win the confrontation.
In the evening also stands out the participation of two undefeated as the super welterweight Samuel Nmomah 16(5KO)-0 and the featherweight Mauro Forte 16(6KO)-0-2. The first will fight against the experienced and tricky Fouad El Massoudi 17(2KO)-17(2)-1, who despite the numbers on his record is a competent boxer that gives work, while Forte will face Colombian Joshua Ocampo 8(6KO)-3(1)-4, who theoretically has a much lower level than him.
