Isaac Cruz venció combate atrozmente emparejado vapuleando de forma terrible a Gamboa

En una competición sería difícil decidir quién es más inepto si el matchmaker de este combate, el árbitro que permitió que la pelea siguiese, la esquina de Gamboa por no detenerla o quien decidió que este duelo debía ser el semifondo del Spence-Ugás. Sea como sea, el hecho es que el peso ligero mexicano Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz 23(16KO)-2-1 castigó al cubano Yuriorkis Gamboa 30(18KO)-5(4) durante cinco asaltos de deprimente vapuleo contra el veterano púgil, que debería haberse retirado hace bastantes años y que está exponiendo su salud a graves peligros.
En menos de 30 segundos Gamboa ya había quedado seriamente tocado por un gancho zurdo de “Pitbull”, teniendo el cubano que agarrarse a la desesperada para evitar caer durante el resto del round, en el que fue duramente golpeado. De todos modos, en el segundo episodio Gamboa, que no podía resistir la potencia de su rival, terminó cayendo al tapiz a causa de una serie de hooks y en el tercer round sufrió otra cuenta tras ser estremecido por un gancho zurdo.
Entre agarres y movimientos defensivos ante un Cruz precipitado y que arrojaba sus puños con excesivo ímpetu, Gamboa logró llegar al cuarto asalto, en el que padeció otro knockdown por un gancho zurdo. Cualquier árbitro mínimamente competente o inteligente habría parado el combate muchos minutos atrás, pero el tercer hombre dejó seguir el enfrentamiento hasta el quinto asalto, en el que Cruz propinó dos fortísimos hooks que arrojaron sobrecogedoramente sobre las cuerdas a Gamboa, parándose entonces esta pugna de un solo lado.
Como en el caso del Valenzuela-Vargas, no se deben realizar lecturas demasiado profundas de este combate, puesto que Gamboa está en tan mal estado y Cruz es tan potente y tenía tantas ventajas a su favor que otra cosa que no fuese un knockout favorable a “Pitbull” hubiese sorprendido. Por ello, únicamente queda esperar que próximamente el cubano al fin se retire para proteger su salud y que Cruz, después de la buena imagen ofrecida ante Gervonta Davis, acceda a un duelo ante un boxeador a su nivel en la segunda mitad de la temporada.

Be that as it may, the fact is that Mexican lightweight Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz 23(16KO)-2-1 punished Cuban Yuriorkis Gamboa 30(18KO)-5(4) during five rounds of depressing beating against the veteran fighter, who should have retired many years ago and who is putting his health in serious danger.
In less than 30 seconds Gamboa had already been hurt by a left hook from «Pitbull», so the Cuban needed to clinch desperately to avoid falling during the rest of the round, in which he was severely punished. Anyway, in the second round Gamboa, who could not resist the power of his opponent, ended up dropped due to a series of hooks and in the third round he received another count after being shaken by a left hook.
Between holds and defensive moves against a hasty Cruz, who threw his punches wildly, Gamboa managed to reach the fourth round, in which he suffered another knockdown by a left hook. Any minimally competent or intelligent referee would have stopped the fight many minutes ago, but the third man let the confrontation continue until the fifth round, in which Cruz landed two very strong hooks that threw Gamboa on the ropes, ending then the one-sided fight.
As in the case of the match Valenzuela-Vargas, deep analysis of this fight seems inappropriate, since Gamboa is in such bad shape and Cruz is so powerful and had so many advantages in his favor that anything other than a knockout victory for the latter would have been surprising. For this reason, it only just remains to be hoped that the Cuban finally retires soon to protect his health and that Cruz, after the good performance offered against Gervonta Davis, accesses to a duel against a boxer at his level in the second half of the season.
