Hay diversos boxeadores en el mundo con un récord que ni por asomo refleja su grado de dificultad y sus capacidades. Uno de ellos es el argentino Jonathan “El Potro” Eniz 28(11KO)-17(4)-1, un púgil con 17 derrotas y cuyos números pueden parecer sinónimo de limitadas cualidades a quienes no le hayan visto combatir o no conozcan en qué circunstancias y contra quién padeció sus derrotas. Sea como sea, más allá de las palabras, Eniz mostró su valía de forma clara la pasada noche venciendo por decisión unánime como visitante y contra pronóstico al prospecto estadounidense Mark Reyes Jr. 14(12KO)-2, al que derribó en una ocasión. Las puntuaciones fueron de doble 95-94 y un 96-93, la tarjeta más acertada de las tres.
El estadounidense Reyes comenzó presionando e intentando conectar sus ganchos con potencia ante el móvil Eniz. Sin embargo, en el segundo asalto el zurdo argentino sacó un izquierdazo que puso de espaldas a la lona a Reyes. La caída no dejó muy dañado al boxeador, que pronto volvió a intentar presionar, si bien durante unos minutos perdió decisión y tensión de golpeo. Por su parte, Eniz no repitió un éxito como el del knockdown, pero siguió llegando con jabs astutos y con ganchos abajo y continuó haciéndose difícil de golpear con sus movimientos.
Asimismo, ante un rival que, incómodo, espaciaba mucho sus ataques y tenía como su mejor arma su jab, Eniz tuvo anticipación y rapidez para llegar con escogidas ofensivas. De todos modos, hacia la mitad los eventuales ganchos zurdos del local Reyes resultaron llamativos y la pugna por lo general perdió mucho ritmo, así que esto permitió al estadounidense recuperar algo de terreno ante un Eniz que se dejó arrastrar a la pelea con limitada actividad que le convenía a su contrincante. Aun así, “El Potro” siguió sacando algunas afiladas combinaciones antes de dejar seriamente tocado a Reyes en el noveno asalto con un excelente cruzado zurdo, hostigándole hasta situarse cerca del KOT, si bien finalmente el local logró aguantar y consumir todos los rounds.
Esta victoria de Eniz llega tres semanas después de una controvertida derrota en Rusia ante el púgil bielorruso de gran carrera amateur Yauheni Dauhaliavets, a lo que se deben sumar en el pasado otras actuaciones meritorias como su triunfo en Noruega ante Denis Ilbay o su derrota por la mínima (y anotándose un knockdown) ante Jeremías Ponce. Por lo tanto, los prospectos y los púgiles con aspiraciones en general que decidan enfrentarse a Eniz deberían tener muy claro ya que necesitarán estar muy bien preparados para estar a la altura del reto que supone este boxeador.
Dobson derrotó a Borrego
Como semifondo del evento del Islam-Kelly se produjo un combate del peso wélter entre el invicto Peter Dobson 15(10KO)-0 y el mexicano José Miguel Borrego 19(16KO)-4, pugna terminada con una amplia victoria unánime (97-93, 98-92 y 100-90) de Dobson.
Los factores decisivos en la victoria de Dobson fueron su explosividad, su ejecución de golpeo y su precisión, elementos que, combinándose, le permitieron conectar nítidas combinaciones de hooks en corta al cuerpo o a la cabeza, tras fijar a su oponente con directos o en intercambios. Cuando Borrego tiró de cadencia de golpeo en posiciones estáticas, las acciones resultaron más igualadas, pero tanto cuando Dobson contragolpeaba como cuando tomaba la iniciativa su destreza se hacía notar de forma decisiva a través de efectivas acciones defensivas con movimientos de cintura o con tensos y variados curvos. Por ello, su triunfo resultó incuestionable tras los diez asaltos.

There are several boxers in the world with a record that does not even remotely reflect their degree of difficulty and their abilities. One of them is the Argentine Jonathan «El Potro» Eniz 28(11KO)-17(4)-1, a fighter with 17 losses and whose numbers may seem synonymous of limited qualities to those who have not seen him fight or do not know in what circumstances and against whom he suffered his defeats. Be that as it may, beyond the words, Eniz clearly showed last night what is cappable of by defeating by upset and as a visitor American prospect Mark Reyes Jr. 14 (12KO)-2, whom he knocked down on one occasion. The scorecards were of double 95-94 and one 96-93, the most fair card of the three.
Reyes began the fight pressing and trying to connect his hooks against the mobile Eniz. However, in the second round the Argentine southpaw unleashed a left hand that put Reyes with his back on the canvas. The knockdown did not damaged critically the boxer, who soon tried to press again, although for a few minutes he lost determination and hitting tension. For his part, Eniz didn’t repeat a success like the knockdown, but he kept coming in with sneaky jabs and hooks down and continued to make himself hard to hit with his moves.
Against an opponent who, uncomfortable, reduced his attacks a lot and had his jab as his best weapon, Eniz used his speed to connect his punches in selected offensives. However, towards the mid point the occasional left hooks from the local Reyes were good and the fight generally lost a lot of rhythm, so this served the American to recover some ground against an Eniz who allowed himself to be dragged into the fight with limited activity that suited his opponent. Even so, “El Potro” continued to throw some sharp combinations before hurting Reyes in the ninth round with an excellent left hook, attacking him until he was close to TKO, although finally the local managed to hold on and consume all the rounds.
This victory for Eniz comes three weeks after a controversial defeat in Russia against the Belarusian boxer with great amateur career Yauheni Dauhaliavets, to which must be added other meritorious performances in the past such as his victory in Norway against Denis Ilbay or his defeat by narrow decision (and scoring a knockdown) against Jeremías Ponce. Therefore, prospects and fighters with aspirations in general who decide to face Eniz should have very clear now that they will need to be very well prepared to rise to the challenge that this fighter poses.
Dobson defeated Borrego
As the co-feature of the Islam-Kelly event there was a welterweight fight between the undefeated Peter Dobson 15(10KO)-0 and the Mexican José Miguel Borrego 19(16KO)-4, match that ended with a wide unanimous victory for Dobson (100-90, 98-92 and 97-93).
The decisive factors in Dobson’s triumph were his explosiveness, his punching technique and his precision, elements that, when combined, allowed him to land crisp short hook combinations to the body or head, after closing the guard of his opponent with straight punches or in exchanges. When Borrego increased his punching rate in static positions, the actions were more even, but when Dobson counterattacked and when he took the initiative, his skill was decisive through effective defensive actions with waist movements or with tense and varied hooks. Therefore, his victory was unquestionable after the ten rounds.
