Normalmente pactar combates de estas características suele llevar semanas, pero en esta ocasión las cosas han sucedido de forma increíblemente rápida. Todavía no había sido confirmado oficialmente que Juan Francisco Estrada era baja por un positivo en PCR, algo que había sido filtrado unos días atrás, y a penas había sido mencionada la posibilidad de un combate entre Román “Chocolatito” González y Julio César Martínez 24 horas antes, si bien repentinamente el duelo ha sido ya anunciado de forma oficial.
Efectivamente, Matchroom Boxing y DAZN han hecho público que el día 5 de marzo, en sustitución del duelo Chocolatito-Estrada III, se producirá como choque de remplazo un enfrentamiento entre Chocolatito y Julio César Martínez, pugna que encabezará la velada desde el Pechanga Arena de San Diego, Estados Unidos. El respaldo original de este evento, en el que destacaba la participación de Mauricio Lara y Ángel Fierro, se mantiene.
Ante la perspectiva de que se volviese a aplazar el choque entre Chocolatito y Estrada y el hueco se quedase sin cubrir, muchos se están mostrando entusiasmados por la anunciada alternativa. Sin embargo, aunque el Chocolatito-Martínez es un combate muy interesante sobre el papel y debería resultar un duelo muy entretenido de ver y con acción de principio a fin, el hecho es que algunos consideran que este encuentro no es compensación suficiente para el Estrada-Chocolatito III, cuya trascendencia va más allá de lo boxístico en términos simples para entrar en la órbita histórica, teniendo en cuenta que ambos seguramente entrarán en el Salón de la Fama tras sus retiros.
Por otro lado, el Chocolatito-Mártinez supone un riesgo claro para que veamos finalmente la realización de la tercera pugna entre González y “El Gallo” Estrada, puesto que, aunque el nicaragüense sigue siendo un boxeador muy hábil y combativo, también ha sufrido una pérdida de potencia y explosividad evidente que podría costarle caro ante el contundente sustituto, que recordemos dio positivo en control antidopaje por clembuterol. De ese modo, si González llegase a perder el duelo quizás la posibilidad de que se cerrase la trilogía Chocolatito-Estrada se desvanecería, o quizás se produciría en circunstancias nada ideales.
