Eduardo Núñez se proclamó campeón mundial superpluma en buen combate ante Rikiishi

El enfrentamiento por el vacante cinturón mundial IBF del peso superpluma entre el japonés Masanori Rikiishi 16(11KO)-2(1) y el mexicano Eduardo Núñez 28(277KO)-1 se presentaba como un muy interesante choque de estilos entre dos boxeadores con muchas cualidades, entre ellas tenacidad y garra. Pues bien, Rikiishi y Núñez no defraudaron, ofreciendo un entretenido combate en el que los dos mostraron sus armas y en el que el mexicano salió coronado merecidamente por decisión unánime de los jueces. Las tarjetas fueron de 117-111, 116-112 y 115-113, siendo la puntuación de Bastión Boxeo de 116-112.
Durante aproximadamente los primeros tres asaltos, el espigado Rikiishi le puso las cosas difíciles al visitante. Y es que, aunque Núñez presionó con firmeza e intentó conectar sus golpes de poder, el zurdo Rikiishi se mantuvo en control a través de un afilado jab, buenas acciones defensivas dinámicas y estáticas, astutos ganchos de mano adelantada y magníficos uppercuts seguidos de pasos laterales. Con todo, es sumamente difícil mantener la eficacia al máximo de manera continuada con este tipo de boxeo ante un pegador como Núñez, que cada vez estaba más cerca de su rival y cada vez encontraba más ocasiones para lanzar y conectar sus poderosos hooks.
Así, desde el cuarto asalto Núñez empezó un sostenido trabajo de demolición con duras combinaciones de golpes curvos que fueron desbordando de forma sostenida a Rikiishi, que se fue desgastando gradualmente y dio por lo tanto más oportunidades para que el visitante hiciese su contundente trabajo en corta. Pese a ello, el japonés estaba muy bien preparado y tiene mucho coraje, así que siguió ofreciendo respuesta e incluso en el octavo asalto pareció reaccionar, volviendo a desplegar un buen boxeo dinámico.
Entonces la pelea llegó a igualarse en las tarjetas momentáneamente, pero Núñez había puesto ya sólidas bases para su triunfo, así que continuó descargando potentes ganchos y uppercuts, dejó tocado a su rival con un hook diestro en el décimo round, sobrepasó a Rikiishi con su volumen y ritmo y se llevó la mejor parte en los intercambios, en los que el japonés plantó cara hasta el final.
Con su coronación Núñez comparte trono ahora con Lamont Roach (WBA), O’Shaquie Foster (WBC) y Emanuel Navarrete (WBO), mientras que el primer clasificado del ranking IBF es el invicto kazajo Sultan Zaurbek.

The fight for the vacant IBF super featherweight title between Japanese Masanori Rikiishi 16(11KO)-2(1) and Mexican Eduardo Núñez 28(27KO)-1 looked as a potentially very interesting clash of styles between two boxers with many qualities, including tenacity and grit. Rikiishi and Núñez did not disappoint, delivering an entertaining fight in which both showed their weapons and in which the Mexican was deservedly crowned by unanimous decision. The scorecards were 117-111, 116-112, and 115-113. Bastion Boxing scored it 116-112.
For roughly the first three rounds, the lanky Rikiishi made things difficult for the visitor. Although Núñez pressed firmly and tried to land his power punches, the southpaw Rikiishi maintained control through a sharp jab, good defensive actions, clever check-hooks, and superb uppercuts followed by sidesteps. However, it is extremely difficult to maintain maximum efficiency consistently with this style of boxing against a puncher like Núñez, who was getting closer and closer to his opponent and finding more and more opportunities to throw and connect his powerful hooks.
Thus, from the fourth round on, Núñez began a sustained effort to wear down his opponent with hard combinations of punches with which he steadily outworked Rikiishi, who gradually lose mobility, thus giving the visitor more opportunities to fight at close range. Despite this, the Japanese fighter was very well prepared and possesses a lot of courage, so he continued to respond, and in the eighth round he even seemed to react, once again offering good mobile boxing.
The fight was then tied on the scorecards for a moment, but Núñez had already laid a solid foundation for his victory. He continued to unload powerful hooks and uppercuts, hurt his opponent with a right hook in the tenth round, overwhelmed Rikiishi with his punch output and pace, and was superior in the exchanges, in which the Japanese fighter still fought until the very end.
With his coronation, Núñez now shares the throne with Lamont Roach (WBA), O’Shaquie Foster (WBC), and Emanuel Navarrete (WBO), while the top ranked fighter in the IBF list is the undefeated Kazakh Sultan Zaurbek.
