“Filipino Phenom” Regie Suganob logró amplísima victoria sobre el invicto Andika D’Golden Boy (Vídeo del combate)

En la próxima actualización de la lista IBF del peso minimosca, el imbatido Regie “Filipino Phenom” Suganob 12(4KO)-0 podría estar al alcance de una eliminatoria final, por lo que necesita seguir sumando victorias para intentar asegurarse la posición más alta posible y mantenerse preparado para la mayor pugna de su carrera. Así, por tercera vez en el año, Suganob se subió al ring y se enfrentó al invicto indonesio Andika D’Golden Boy 19(10KO)-1-1 al que derribó y derrotó por amplísima decisión unánime (triple 100-89).
En líneas generales, la pelea tuvo un ritmo bastante bajo, ya que, aunque al comienzo Suganob atacó con algunas combinaciones de hooks, con uno-dos y con cruzados enlazados con directos, posteriormente sus arremetidas se espaciaron mucho más. Entonces a Suganob le bastó con su jab y con muy aislados golpes de poder a través de una medida presión para anotar las mejores manos y llevarse los asaltos.
Por su parte, D’Golden Boy sacó de forma muy eventual algún directo diestro o gancho zurdo, y en algún momento tímidamente intentó tomar la iniciativa, pero por lo demás su actuación fue muy conservadora y se centró en un desplazamiento cercano a las cuerdas y en bloqueos para intentar reducir los daños. Aunque, obviamente, eso no le sirvió para ganar rounds y, de hecho, tampoco le evitó sufrir un knockdown en el cuarto asalto por una derecha al rostro ni quedar tocado por un golpe al torso en el noveno asalto.
Ciertamente, las energías que gastó Andika D’Golden Boy bailando extrañamente cada vez que era alcanzado por un golpe claro, especialmente al torso, debería haberlas utilizado luchando para intentar atacar a su contrincante, que tuvo un combate menos exigente que muchas de sus sesiones de sparring. En cualquier caso, si bien la pelea no sirvió para medir bien el nivel de Suganob, éste es un boxeador con cualidades y que podría, cuanto menos, ofrecer pugnas competidas contra rivales de buen nivel, aunque no sabremos a qué altura está su boxeo exactamente hasta que le veamos en el futuro en una prueba de fuego.

In the next update of the IBF light flyweight ranking, unbeaten Regie “Filipino Phenom” Suganob 12(4KO)-0 could be within reach of a final eliminator, so he needs to keep scoring wins to try to secure the highest possible position and stay prepared for the biggest fight of his career. Thus, for the third time in the year, Suganob stepped into the ring and faced the undefeated Indonesian Andika D’Golden Boy 19(10KO)-1-1 whom he knocked down once and beat by wide unanimous decision (triple 100-89).
In general, the fight had a low pace, since, although at the beginning Suganob attacked with some combinations of hooks, with one-twos and with lead hooks linked with right hands, later his offensives were much more spaced. Then, Suganob only needed his jab and very isolated power shots through a limited pressure to land the best hands and win the rounds.
For his part, D’Golden Boy very occasionally connected a straight right hand or a left hook, and at some points timidly tried to take the initiative, but otherwise his performance was very conservative and was based on moving close to the ropes and using blocks to try to reduce the damage received. Obviously, that didn’t help him win rounds and, in fact, it didn’t prevent him from suffering a fourth-round knockdown by a right hand to the face or being hurt by a body shot in the ninth round.
Certainly, the energies that Andika D’Golden Boy expended dancing strangely every time he was hit by a clear punch, especially to the torso, should have been used trying to attack his opponent, who had a less challenging duel than many of his sparring sessions. In any case, although the fight did not serve to gauge well Suganob’s level, he is a boxer with qualities and who could, at least, offer competitive matches against good fighters, although we will not know exactly how high his level is until we see him in a decisive test in the future.
