En el Korakuen Hall de Tokio, Japón, el top 10 en tres organismos del peso supermosca Ryusei Kawaura intentará mejorar su posicionamiento WBO (lista en la que es 5º) peleando por un título menor ante su compatriota Joe Shiraishi, quien sólo ha padecido una derrota en su carrera: por decisión y en un contendido duelo ante otro top 15 como Kenta Nakagawa.

Este será el día en el que se disputarán los cuartos de final del torneo WBC Grand Prix en sus cuatro divisiones en el Cool Arena de Riyadh, Arabia Saudí, con emisión por YouTube y DAZN. Empezando por la categoría del peso pluma, los emparejamientos serán Yusuf Adisa Adeniji vs. Yoni Valverde Jr., Muhamet Qamili vs. Troy Nash, Iman Lee vs. Bekizizwe Maitse y Ayubkhon Bakhtiyorov vs. Brandon Mejía.

Finalmente, en el peso pesado se mantiene el cruce Keaton Gomes vs. Devon Young y Piotr Lacz vs. Kevin Cristopher Ramírez, si bien hay cambios en los otros enfrentamientos. El oro olímpico Lazizbek Mullojonov ha dado positivo en un control antidopaje, así que el púgil al que derrotó en octavos, Youness Baalla, ocupará su puesto en cuartos. Con todo, extrañamente, no se medirá al previsto rival de Mullojonov, Krnjić, sino que peleará contra Dante Stone. Por su parte, Ahmed Krnjić combatirá contra Tsotne Rogava, completándose esta sospechosa maniobra en el cuadro del torneo.

Una vez más, habrá proporcionalmente más actividad relevante el viernes que el sábado, si bien en esta ocasión el sábado se producirá el mayor evento de la semana. Regresando al viernes, en el ProBox TV Events Center de Plant City, Estados Unidos, emitida por YouTube, se producirá una velada encabezada por un interesante choque del peso superpluma entre el tayiko Muhammadkhuja Yaqubov (5º WBC) y el estadounidense William Foster III (7º WBA). Este encuentro parece tener el potencial de ofrecer buenos rounds de boxeo, y además permitirá llevar al ganador seguramente a una importante pugna en lucha por acceder a un mundial.
En el respaldo se producirá otro bien emparejado choque, en este caso en el peso superligero, entre el dominicano Starling Castillo y el estadounidense Shinard Bunch, quienes vienen de largas inactividades, y el peso superwélter Marques Valle disputará su primer combate, ante el dominicano Luis Georges, desde que sufrió su primera derrota en abril de 2024.
También en Estados Unidos, en concreto en el Chumash Casino de Santa Ynez, emitido por UFC Fight Pass, el propsecto del peso pluma Omar Cande Trinidad disputará una nueva pelea de rodaje y desarrollo, en este caso, ante el venezolano Lorenzo Parra, que en su último combate dio la sorpresa batiendo por la mínima a un boxeador local en Estados Unidos. Además, la campeona mundial WBO del peso supermosca, la japonesa Mizuki Hiruta, afrontará su quinta defensa ante la imbatida mexicana Naomy Cárdenas.
Finalmente en cuanto al viernes, en Pekín, China, el peso superpluma Can Xu pondrá fin a un parón de ocho meses, y disputará su combate más exigente desde que fue derrotado por Brandón León Benítez, midiéndose a Jaouad Belmehdi, que está en racha de siete triunfos desde que fue vapuleado por el entonces enrachado Gary Cully en 2022.
Sábado 16 de agosto
En Riyadh, Arabia Saudí, retransmitido por DAZN, tendrá lugar un muy buen evento en el que se producirán cinco combates destacables. En el estelar se subirá al ring el joven peso pesado Moses Itauma, quien es considerado por muchos una estrella en ascenso en la división. Itauma, que sólo ha combatido 25 rounds como profesional, intentará expandir su experiencia de calidad enfrentándose al mayor oponente que ha tenido hasta la fecha, el exretador mundial Dillian Whyte, boxeador con tres positivos en control antidopaje en su carrera (2012, 2019, 2023), que ha dejado atrás su mejor rendimiento (o mejor dicho, su mayor eficacia utilizando sustancias dopantes) años atrás y que debería ser noqueado por el prospecto si éste es todo lo que se piensa que es.
Este no será el único combate del peso pesado que se producirá en el evento, ya que el croata Filip Htgović (top 15 en los cuatro organismos y 2º WBO detrás de Itauma) buscará mantener el impulso tras sus triunfo ante Joe Joyce midiéndose a un David Adeleye que ha sumado dos victorias desde su derrota ante Fabio Wardley.
Por otro lado, el campeón mundial WBA del peso pluma Nick Ball expondrá su cinturón por tercera vez enfrentándose al invicto australiano Sam Goodman, quien ha renunciado a esperar una pugna contra Inoue por la corona indiscutida del peso supergallo para afrontar un mundial subiendo de división en el que, estilísticamente hablando, tiene un serio reto frente a sí. Además, el exaspirante mundial Raymond Ford (top 5 en los cuatro organismos) combatirá en el peso superpluma contra el sustituto Abraham Nova, que no gana un combate contra un rival con récord positivo desde 2023, y el prospecto japonés del peso superpluma Hayato Tsutsumi buscará continuar su racha de knockouts ante Qais Ashfaq.
Por lo demás, el sábado se pueden mencionar estos otros combates:
-En el Santa Monica Pier de Santa Monica, Estados Unidos, emitido por YouTube, el prospecto DeAngelo Evans afrontará su mayor test hasta la fecha contra un rival joven y competente como Justin Cardona.
-En la Cancha Manuel Gómez Jiménez de La Paz, México, el irregular peso supermosca Armando Appel García se medirá al fogueado Rosendo Hugo Guarneros.
-En el Tsuyuhashi Sports Center de Nagoya, Japón, el 14º IBF del peso supermosca Kento Hatanaka será claro favorito para derrotar al jornalero filipino Diomel Diocos.

At the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan, top 10 super flyweight in three sanctioning bodies Ryusei Kawaura will attempt to improve his WBO ranking (he is currently 5th) by fighting for a minor title against fellow countryman Joe Shiraishi, who has only suffered one defeat: by decision in a competitive bout against another top 15 fighter, Kenta Nakagawa.

The WBC Grand Prix quarterfinals in all four divisions will take place this Wednesday at the Cool Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, broadcast on YouTube and DAZN. However, oddly, Baalla will not face Mullojonov’s expected opponent, Krnjić, but instead will fight Dante Stone. Meanwhile, Ahmed Krnjić will face Tsotne Rogava, completing this suspicious maneuver in the bracket.

Once again, Friday will feature proportionally more relevant action than Saturday, although this time Saturday will host the week’s biggest event. Returning to Friday, at the ProBox TV Events Center in Plant City, United States, broadcast on YouTube, a card will be headlined by an intriguing super featherweight clash between Tajik fighter Muhammadkhuja Yaqubov (5th WBC) and American William Foster III (7th WBA). This bout seems to have the potential to deliver quality rounds of boxing and will likely lead the winner to a significant fight in pursuit of a world title shot.
On the undercard, another well-matched bout will take place in the super lightweight division between Dominican Starling Castillo and American Shinard Bunch, both coming off long layoffs. Also, super welterweight Marques Valle will have his first fight since suffering his first defeat in April 2024, facing Dominican Luis Georges.
Also in the United States, specifically at the Chumash Casino in Santa Ynez, broadcast on UFC Fight Pass, featherweight prospect Omar Cande Trinidad will have another developmental bout, this time against Venezuelan Lorenzo Parra, who in his last fight pulled off an upset win by narrow margin against a local boxer in the U.S. Additionally, WBO super flyweight world champion Mizuki Hiruta will make her fifth title defense against undefeated Mexican Naomy Cárdenas.
Finally, in Beijing, China, super featherweight Can Xu will end an eight-month layoff and face his toughest opponent since being defeated by Brandón León Benítez, taking on Jaouad Belmehdi, who is on a seven-fight winning streak since being crushed by the then-surging Gary Cully in 2022.
Saturday, August 16
In Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, broadcast on DAZN PPV, a very solid event will be held. In the main event, young heavyweight Moses Itauma, a fighter regarded by many as a rising star in the division, will step into the ring. Itauma, who has only fought 25 rounds as a professional, will try to gain quality experience by facing his toughest opponent yet, former world title challenger Dillian Whyte—a boxer with three positive doping tests (2012, 2019, 2023), whose best years (or rather, his most effective use of banned substances) are behind him and who should be knocked out by the prospect if Itauma is truly what many believe he is.
This won’t be the only heavyweight bout on the card, as Croatian Filip Hrgović (top 15 in all four sanctioning bodies and 2nd WBO behind Itauma) will look to maintain momentum after his win over Joe Joyce by facing David Adeleye, who has scored two victories since his loss to Fabio Wardley.
Also, WBA featherweight world champion Nick Ball will make his third title defense against undefeated Australian Sam Goodman, who has chosen not to wait for a bout with Inoue for the undisputed super bantamweight crown, opting instead to move up in weight and challenge for a world title in a stylistically difficult matchup for him. Additionally, former world title challenger Raymond Ford (top 5 in all four sanctioning bodies) will fight in the super featherweight division against replacement Abraham Nova, who hasn’t beaten a fighter with a winning record since 2023, and Japanese super featherweight prospect Hayato Tsutsumi will look to continue his knockout streak against Qais Ashfaq.
