LeAnna Cruz cayó a la lona pero logró muy cuestionable triunfo unánime

Después de que Branden Pizarro perdiese en el combate coestelar del evento, la promotora organizadora del evento no podía permitirse que otra boxeadora local, en este caso la supermosca LeAnna Cruz 11(1KO)-0, fuese derrotada por la mexicana Regina Chávez 8(1KO)-6-3. Así que, al margen de lo ocurrido sobre el ring, simplemente no lo permitió: aunque Cruz fue derribada y sufrió mucho ante la cadencia y agresividad de su oponente, los jueces le dieron un muy cuestionable triunfo por decisión unánime y puntuaciones de 95-94, 96-93 y un espantoso 97-92. La puntuación de Bastión Boxeo fue 93-96 para Chávez.
En el primer asalto, Chávez hizo ya una declaración de intenciones derribando a su oponente con una combinación de gancho zurdo y directo diestro, mientras que en el segundo asalto continuó con su castigo provocando una hemorragia nasal a Cruz que fue yendo cada vez a peor. La pelea se desarrollaba con constantes intercambios en la distancia corta y media-corta, y en ellos el ritmo y el tesón de la mexicana resultaron vitales, llegando con más directos, uppercuts y ganchos que Cruz que, eso sí, tuvo el mérito de responder con bravura pese al knockdown y la avalancha de golpes.
De todos modos, entre el primero y el séptimo asalto, en general fue Chávez la que fue mucho más consistente con su trabajo, golpeando de forma muy frecuente con nítidos puños a la favorita, que se esforzó por mantenerse en la batalla, destacando sus ganchos al torso, pero que, pese a las falseadas estadísticas de golpes, no igualaba el despliegue de su contrincante.
Posteriormente, Chávez perdió frecuencia de golpeo y firmeza en el avance, hasta el punto que dejó presionar y Cruz pudo utilizar su superior ejecución de golpeo y su explosividad, así como sus reflejos, para llevarse algunos asaltos. Pero la mexicana todavía pudo cerrar el combate atacando con fiereza, sellando una muy buena actuación y mereciendo un triunfo que podría haber cambiado el signo de su carrera, especialmente tras haber padecido otras dos controvertidas derrotas como visitante en el último año y medio.

After Branden Pizarro lost in the co-featured fight, the promoter couldn’t allow another local boxer to lose. So, he simply didn’t allow it, regardless of what happened in the ring in the fight between super flyweight LeAnna Cruz 11(1KO)-0 and Mexican Regina Chávez 8(1KO)-6-3. Although Cruz was knocked down and suffered greatly due to her opponent’s pace and aggressiveness, the judges awarded her a highly questionable unanimous decision victory with scores of 95-94, 96-93, and a horrendous 97-92. Bastion Boxing’s score was 93-96 for Chávez.
In the first round, Chávez already made a statement by knocking down her opponent with a left hook-straight right combination, while in the second round she continued her punishment, causing a nosebleed which gradually worsened. The fight had constant exchanges at close and mid-to-close range, and in these, the Mexican’s output and tenacity proved decisive, landing more straight shots, uppercuts, and hooks than Cruz, who had the merit of responding bravely despite the knockdown and the storm of punches.
However, between the first and seventh rounds, Chávez was generally much more consistent with her work, frequently connecting clear punches against the favorite. Cruz tried hard to stay in the fight, especially with her hooks to the body, but despite the falsified punching statistics, she couldn’t match her opponent’s success.
Later in the fight, Chávez pace slowed down and she advanced with much less determination, to the point where she even stopped putting pressure, so Cruz was able to use her superior punching technique, explosiveness and reflexes to win some rounds. But the Mexican was still able to close out the fight attacking fiercely, having overall a very good performance that made her deserving of a win that could have changed her career, especially after suffering two other controversial losses on the road in the last year and a half.
