The best fights of the weekend (3-4/30-1/2023)

Thursday, March 30
We begin another week at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan, where the WBO world atomweight champion Yuki Kuroki 20(9KO)-7-2 will defend her belt in a rematch against a former world champion like her compatriot Nanae Suzuki 11(1KO)-5(1)-1. In any case, although Kuroki has not been the most regular fighter in recent years, quite the opposite, she is coming from exceeding expectations displaying good boxing and defeating Suzuki herself, so she will be the favorite to win.

Also on Thursday, at the Balon Bayambang Events Center in Bayambang, Philippines, there will be a well matched national flyweight championship in which the competent Bienvenido Ligas 14(9KO)-3-2, who has never lost widely, will clash against former ranked boxer Genesis Libranza 20(12KO)-1(1), a previous owner of the aforementioned title, on a nine-victory streak but who has not fought for two years.

Friday, March 31
For the second week in a row, the biggest event on Friday will be organized by Wasserman Boxing. The main event of the evening, broadcast by Channel 5 and DAZN, will be a super lightweight bout in which the undefeated British Harlem Eubank 16(6KO)-0 will face off against Mexican Christian Uruzquieta 21(8KO)-5(2)-2, a boxer who seasons ago had very good performances as a visitor but who, having fought only once since he was stopped by Lewis Ritson, is not expected to achieve the upset.

On the undercard, Nick Parpa 10(6KO)-1(1) and Michael Webster 7(5KO)-0 will meet in an English cruiserweight championship; Harry Scarff 11(3KO)-2 will try to break into the WBO super welterweight ranking by capturing a minor belt against Jordan Dujon 8(0KO)-1; and world amateur bronze medalist Abass Baraou 12(8KO)-1 will end a year of inactivity fighting at super welterweight against low-level Hungarian Ferenc Katona 11(7KO)-9(6)-3.

For the rest, on Friday only two other events can be mentioned. At Magicland in Valmonte, Italy, local super featherweight puncher Michele Magnesi 21(13KO)-0 will try to bounce back from his narrow loss to Anthony Cacace (on Joyce-Parker undercard) by taking on undefeated Argentinian Ayrton Osmar Giménez 17(3KO)-0, against whom his advantage in power could be key. In the match there will be a WBC minor title at stake, and the fighters are number 11 and number 22 respectively, so the winner will obtain a good ranking.

On the other hand, at the Palais du Littoral in Grande-Synthe, France, there will be a couple of national championships, one for the heavyweight belt between David Spilmont 12(8KO)-8(3)-1 and Mekki Sahli 5(4KO)-1, and another for the super lightweight title between Hassan Amzile 5(1KO)-0 and Don Yves Mikael Taha 9(2KO)-2-1, this being a rematch of a close split decision victory of the former in 2021.

Saturday, April 1
The biggest name to step into a ring this week will be former unified world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, who will attempt to score his first win after his two losses to Oleksandr Usyk battling American Jermaine Franklin. Read more following the link.

As for the fights that will support this matchup, after the withdrawal of Felix Cash, there is little left to highlight: a heavyweight fight in which puncher Fabio Wardley will try to continue his steady advance beating American Michael Polite Coffie and a middleweight clash in which Austin Williams is the clear favorite to beat River Wilson-Bent. Read more following the link.

Leaving aside the aforementioned Matchroom/DAZN event, a Top Rank/ESPN+ evening will also take place on Saturday. The main event will be a world championship for the vacant WBO featherweight belt between two-time Olympic gold medalist Robeisy Ramírez and former world champion Isaac Dogboe. The undercard will feature, among others boxers, Joet González and Jahi Tucker. Read more following the link.

On Saturday these other fights also stand out:
-At the Kraftverkehr Chemnitz in Chemnitz, Germany, MDR will televise an European Union championship for the vacant light heavyweight belt in which will square off the German national champion Tom Dzemski 20(11KO)-1, who has only lost on points against the winner of a world eliminator Michael Eifert, and the French national champion Daniel Blenda Dos Santos 20(10KO)-1(1), who has only lost against Joshua Buatsi.
-At the EDION Arena in Osaka, Japan, Japanese national super featherweight champion Kosuke Saka 22(19KO)-6(4), a boxer with a big punch and poor chin, will face Yuna Hara 12(6KO)-2-1, a taller, motivated boxer who has never been stopped.
-At the Eatons Hill Hotel in Eatons Hill, Australia, FOX Australia will broadcast a cruiserweight bout in which local Floyd Masson 12(7KO)-0 will face the second biggest fight of his career against the Italian, not so long ago considered prospect, Fabio Turchi 21(15KO)-2(1).
-In the Auditorio Municipal Fausto Gutiérrez Moreno in Tijuana, Mexico, an event will be broadcast on YouTube in which WBO number 7 super welterweight Damián “Samurái” Sosa 22(11KO)-1 will face the seasoned Iván Álvarez 31(21KO)-14(5)-4 and the young American lightweight Manuel Jaimes 13(10KO)-1-1 will fight against Jorge Lagunas 11(8KO)-5(2).
-At the Raddison Victoria Plaza in Montevideo, Uruguay, televised by TyC Sports, promising Argentine Olympian Mirco Cuello 10(9KO)-0 will be overwhelming favorite to defeat Venezuelan Flecher Silva 14(12KO)-1.
